Quite right. But if you take up "both" lanes entering the roundabout you won't be popular.
That is correct. There is only one lane. However I'd imagine the vast amount of people that aren't aware of this. There was 2 lanes of traffic up as far as the Longfield entrance yesterday and I assume most days around 4/4.30.
If they do norrow the road to a single traffic will be out to Molloys turn off.
May 2009, please note the markings on the roundabout.
I'm not sure what you are saying but I'm talking from the perspecive of coming down the hill from Abbot.
this is the exact understanding I have of how the roundabout should be used. And often is but there’s a high percentage of people who go to the right of the roundabout upon entry and then swerve across the lane going around the roundabout and then go straight on down the Cashel road.
The simplest solution would be re-introducing the roadmarkings in @tommiet's post.
Yes and going on to the Cashel road? If your entry is six o clock, is the Cashel road exit after 12 o'clock if the roundabout is a clock.
Some say if the exit is after 12 you indicate right and enter in the right lane at 6 o clock, and, check mirrors, indicate left and change lane after passing 9 o'clock.
It doesn’t matter if the exit is after 12o’clock, you are taking the second exit, continuing straight on on the R688, Cashel road, so you keep left on the roundabout, unless road markings or signs say otherwise. Not all roundabouts are symmetrical clock-faces.
According to the AA, you can in some circumstances use the right lane to go straight ahead. And not just to turn right only.
"When there’s no signage, the ”golden rule” in the Rules of the Road is to picture the roundabout as a clock with your entrance as 6 o’clock. If you’re taking any exit between 6 and 12, stay in the left lane. Going straight ahead (exiting at 12), you can use either lane – generally keep left, but if there is a long queue turning left, then you can take the right lane. If your exit is after 12 o’clock (ie. any exit to the right), then approach the roundabout in the right lane."
See clear as mud 🤣.
However as previously pointed out, there isn't 2 lanes approach the roundabout, so technically this situation shouldn't arise. Right?
Most drivers nowdays haven't a clue about how to drive on a main road….And as for roundabouts ,forget it.Just do your bit correctly and be alert there's always a prat near you.
Hopefully this will all happen, that area of town is not looking good.

..and the inevitable picture of Siobhan Ambrose gurning at the camera to claim the credit.
Work started finally on the new Garda station today. A very welcome development.
Great news to hear, I wonder what's the plans for the existing building?
the existing building is owned by the Co council as far as I know so I’d imagine they will take it over for offices again.
Where is this?
I didn't realize that. Id say it would need considerable renovations inside.
The new Garda station going into old Army barracks site.
And they can use the cells to lock up naughty officials who allegedly accept brown envelopes!
I see with the 20 million euro Irish water are putting into the water system in town they’re putting the whole town on the monroe reservoir so the entire town will have hard water, won’t get a plumber or water softer for ages there’ll be such a demand for them.
Is it just me or is there a lot of homeless people, beggars etc… congragating in and around the new lidl lately? recently any time I go inside there seems to be someone sitting outside the door with a cup…and usually more on the outside too, under that little shelter, saw three lads drinking on the bench outside too with an obviously robbed bottle of whiskey as it still had the tag thing on top and I could see them hitting it off the wall trying to break it open.
yes there is some homeless certainly hanging around there. Usual suspects all well known to most of us I am sure. I see them most evenings myself. That area has benefited greatly from the development of the store there but as usual will attract an element desperate for money or looking for opportunities to engage in a spot of anti social behaviour. It’s amazing our Clonmel Says No group aren’t saying something about this seeing as they have set themselves up as some sort of protector of the town……
same usual 8/10 suspects seem to be all over the town all times of the day on O’Connell Street, Quays, Lidl and the railway station, some impression created for anyone arriving in Clonmel by bus or train for the first time
be interesting to see if Larkins is turned into a boutique hotel
the dirt up around the railway station is scandalous despite the best intentions and work of the tidy towns. Same few up there as you said who also avail of the soup kitchen.
I feel sorry for them. What sort of a life do they have?
Yeah its sad alright and seems to be getting worse unfortunately from what I can see, it has to be said that we should be concentrating on helping our own before taking in wave after wave of immigrants.
I think they have all been looked after fairly ok. Addiction issues are the problem. Immigrants or no immigrants these lads are where they are. Some of them are nasty threatening so and so’s too.
I passed down the narrow street today . When did this bookshop close down ? It only opened last November ?
Yeah there are definitely some bad apples around, always been that way I'm not going to deny that, its just lately I'm seeing more new faces around, some are going to be genuine its them I feel for, not the career scumbags.
This old chestnut again.
You can only help those that want to be helped. And the vast majority of them scrotes around the town are being helped. Most are in houses or apt around the town. Some are in 9 to 9 accommodation just off Thomas st some in apt and houses on the quay. One particular house on the quay is a drug pusher. These houses and apts are supplied by housing agencies and the council.
The idea that these should be somehow saved is bollox.. Just look at the soup kitchen. I see some members of a certain section of the community there on a weekly basis. The nights the kitchen isn't there, they're into the off licence across the road to stock up.
Everyone makes choices,
To the point about robbing, there was a time when thieves had a bit of honer and decorum, now they don't care. Proof, robbing a bottle of spirits and drinking it on the Wall outside. I recently had a bike stolen from my van outside the train station on a Wednesday evening, on Thursday evening low and behold this scumbag walk up past there pushing the bike. Lucky for me I just happened to be there at the time and was able to get it back. This fine upstanding member of society is being houesed by a housing authority and is always down town with his cup in hand. Oh and just to be clear he is originally from Clonmel.
Look after our own my arse.
