Had he behaved like an Adult, a very useful legal conversation would have taken place about where "Religious Freedom/Beliefs" and the law of the land intersect.
He should have
However , at the end of it all what we would have had was a clear set of guidelines about how this sort of thing should be handled and everyone would have gotten on with things. And as you say it might have set off some proper societal conversation on the subject.
But , I think Enoch has always known that legally speaking he hasn't a leg to stand on here so he chose the Nuclear option as by behaving the way he has he gets to exist in this space where the issue has never been legally clarified so he can contin eu to claim that he has "right" that are being infringed.
Even God thinks he's a gobshite.
@Sheep breeder Yes what the Burkes did in relation to that inquest was completely vile. No bereaved family should have had to go through that.
Do parents want every school to be an ETB school?
Do parents want the State to be a monopoly provider?
If they did, there would be queues outside every "tech" to attend.
There aren't.
In the UK, parents want to put their children in non-State schools, people even move house to get access to church-owned schools.
Just like in the school case even if they thought they were into something common human decency would have them think maybe I won’t make things worse for people. They have an agenda and don’t care about others at all. Despicable behaviour
Although I do not agree with ignoring a Court Order, I also do not agree that people should be compelled to call a male a female.
We should not have to indulge somebody else's mental illness or delusion.
If somebody, or some law, compelled me to call Eddie Izzard a woman, I would reject and resist that law, as he is a man.
Do you think that you can cure 'transgenderism' by not telling kids about their options?
Or that kids will catch 'transgenderism' by hearing about some options?
You can resist in your head all you like. If you want to resist in any workplace, expect to find yourself fired if you're an employee, or kicked out if you're a customer.
Shouldn't need to be compelled, it's about decency.
The use of they/them pronouns do not identify one as belonging to a specific sex or gender.
The option?
That's utterly disingenuous and you know it.
"If people don't want to go to Faith based schools they can just start their own" is not an answer.
The Catholic Church should not be the primary provider of Education in this country , end of story.
Each and every one of the schools listed in the report earlier this week should be immediately taken under State control and all assets seized.
Simple as that , but that's for a different thread.
This one is about an Adult who is incapable of behaving like one at his place of employment and that is ALL it is about.
I call people by their names. Most people will volunteer it when first introduced, or otherwise I'll ask them their name.
Whether that's Eddie or Suzy, or a gender neutral name, I leave it up to them to tell me how to address them.
Who am I to tell them what their name is, or refuse to use it?
1984 has arrived.
Wilson Hospital School is a Church of Ireland Diocesan voluntary secondary school. Are you sure it is an ETB school?
You live in a part of the world with a Christian ethos and pretty much like all other parts of the world, expecting people to leave their religion behind in school is just nonsense and demanding is beyond that.
Society makes allowances for kids to learn and grow and parents who try to create some kind of utopia for their kids where religion does not exist are doing their kids a disservice as the kids do not learn to live in the real world.
It’s a good job no one tried to compel him to do such a thing so, therefore eliminating that as a reason for him being in the situation he’s in now.
You don't get to choose them.
If you are a boy = he.
If you are a girl = her.
That's it.
Do you believe the Burke family has the licence to carry on at WHS and towns, courts and official functions, in the disruptive manner they've become accustomed to, where unrelated families, businesses etc are concerned because one son of the Burkes believes the use of the pronouns they/their is ungodly?
I don't know.
I was answering the statement:
"Religion has absolutely ZERO place in our educational system."
I am asking who do people want as patrons instead?
The State / ETB?
Well, that's me educated then. BTW, who, in your opinion, does the choosing?
Careful now. Religious beliefs to alot of people are a mental illness/ delusion.
Miriam rocks….
Is it more or less a mental illness to believe you are a different gender than to believe in a god? Surely both are based on a persons beliefs?
How would you like me to grade mental illness?
Religious beliefs are far more than just belief in a god
Whomever THEY choose, if one allows them a free choice. Naturally, religious influencers should not be entertained while making such a personal choice.
Calling ETB schools "techs" is remarkably ignorant. My kids go to an ETB secondary and it's a great school, only problem is that it's so far away from us. Only single-sex schools where we live, each run by a religious order heavily implicated in this latest report.
There is massive unmet demand for Educate Together primary schools throughout the country.
Comparing our system to that of the UK is just silly, our education systems are not remotely comparable. Demand for the RC schools in the UK is just an attempt by parents to keep their children away from the "riff raff", how christian and how laudable 🙄
aka I’d rather be a dickhead than be “wrong”
"You live in a part of the world with a Christian ethos"
Really? How does this manifest itself exactly? Church attendance? Vocations?
I suppose I'll get the preamble of the constitution quoted at me 🙄 oh and the status quo of the education system, hijacked by the churches in the 19th century but the churches are very happy to have the taxpayer pay the bills as they always have done (the stuff about "we wouldn't have had an education without the church" is an outright lie.)
Naked sectarianism really is nothing to be proud of and our education system needs to fight it, not perpetuate it.
Nobody, there is no choice.
