Dectomax is a clear dose so any resistance you have to clear doses will affect dectomax,
it's the same as oramec or cydectin or any of the clear doses
Baycox is the best but it has a 42 day withdrawal, otherwise vecoxin, it has a shorter withdrawal
Vet recommend baycox for Cocida and normectin for worms me . Pull any big lambs out as it has 42 day withdrawal as u say
Not true, doramectin, moxidectin and ivermectin are different..have seen lambs with worm burdens resistant to ivermectin cleaned out in 10 days with moxidectin type products
Doramectin will be useless soon as everyone seems to be treating scab with it these days..both scab and worms are already showing resistance in places
Levamisole products seem the most effective in general at the moment
It wouldn't be our experience that dectomax is any better. we've very little resistance but people that we test for wouldn't see any difference
Have seen cydectin (moxidectin) treat lambs that had shown worms resistant to normectin (ivermectin)..dropping from a count of 900 to under 100 after 10 days ..not ideal as it would be best moving away from any of macrocyclin lactones
What mineral does do people find good to give to Ewes prior to the Ram going out
twin plus is what I give.
Use a bolus here, find them a great job
used the crystalyx feed blocks on 1 group that were on poor grass last year year and found them good ewes housed in good condition and good lamb crop
this year's early batch have got 2 Electromin boluses each and most likely will use the blocks on the next , bought some ewes with lambs at foot late in the year and some are still a bit under condition body score wise
Anyone going to Ewe lamb prolific breeder sale in Carrick on Saturday
As you know we don't dose mature ewes here and haven't dosed for years, a lot of farmers swear they see an improvement in the ewes after a dose. we'd dose a thin ewe though.
We did a FEC on them this week and the result was 50epg .
These ewes would be grazing out paddocks after the lambs so would be picking up a huge amount of larvae
Did you go Johnny? Any report on how it went?
Went and picked up a few alright, nice stock there. Some stock making big money. Lambs on the lighter side I would have liked if they were a tad heavier or close too 50kg across the board.
Sale was delayed for about 40 mins with the LSL online app which was quite annoying considering that's the same app that now want to charge people to view marts.
i bought 5 lovely ewe lambs at that sale 2 years ago. big 50kg NZ suffolk x mules. After 2 years i only have one left in the flock. 3 failed to go in lamb (as lambs and hoggets) and one refused to feed her lamb even after 5 days in the stocks.
Could happen with any sheep i guess but fairly poor return out of the 5 i bought
Jesus I hope they few I bought do better than that. I ended up buying cheviot mules, and Suffolk x cheviot. Similar to the sheep I already runso hopefully they'll be alright.
Everything is a chance if you are buying in replacements.
100%. Possibly just a bit of bad luck on my side
Hope yours are lucky for you
I believe you've a lot less problems if they're put in lamb as ewe lambs, they always get up looking for their lambs, no matter how hard the lambing.
First time lambing as a hogget is like an ould fellow getting married, they can be set in their ways and fond of themselves
Bought about 40 young inlamb ewes 5 or 6 years ago in lamb to NZ Suffolk. I kept all the ewe lambs for breeding and tipped them as ewe lambs having heard all the hullabaloo about them. They were the boldest and most contrary batch of sheep that I ever lambed. I'd say 60% of them had to be stalled up after rejecting lambs.
i put them with the ram as lambs and then gave them a go again as hoggets. Agree with you on ewes that lambed at a year old being good mothers.
I dont cull a ewe lamb for not going in lamb but will cull a hogget for that reason.
anyone know if the Charollais society have dates published for upcoming sales? Their website hasn’t been updated since end of 2023
has anyone any expereince of putting blue faced leicsters on suffolk and or belclare ewes? what type of mothers would they be?
I have 3 bfl ewes out of belclare ewes. I like them. They're big sheep, 90 - 105kg at present. Bred them as ewe lambs and 2 of them reared a lamb each. All have 3 lambs each every year since then. I leave 2 on them and they would rear 2 even lambs each to over 40kg at weaning. One of them lambed down blind on one side this year so she's gone now. They'd be savage sheep if they only had 2 lambs each.
Injecting lambs here with ivermectin and noticed they go mad after the injection for a few seconds. Is this normal?
Where abouts are you injecting them?
It's an under the skin injection, maybe you're getting some lambs in a muscle
those that mean it won’t work so if that’s the case ?
Fair play to David in sheep school on his 'pay day' some going.
Cat see it not working as you're putting it into the bloodstream. Could be hard onthe sheep though.
Question: can sheep movements be registered online via AgFood or is posting in the pink docket still the only way?
