€715 does seem very high unless it’s a driver specific risk. Repair costs should be similar to comparably priced EV’s. Most cars that new involved in a serious prang don’t get repaired anyway and end up being wrote off.
No idea what is putting it off.. Late 30's, 19 years driving. No gaps in driving. No penalty points, Full Irish license. Full NCB, never had any claim (except windscreen which last time was 2017). Live in a safe area of Dublin (Lucan), only travel about 24K a year.. I'm baffled 🤷♂️
No, I'm saying the situation that the other insurers refusing to quote ridiculous.. not my existing insurer (They at least gave me a renewal quote).. as you know yourself, with insurance in Ireland you need to shop around..
From what I have tried 7 declines, 1 quoted, 1 waiting to call back this morning (I'm not hopeful because the underwriter is one of the declined mentioned).. so yes it is a ridiculous situation for one of the popular EV and not being able to have a few insurer to quote.
I got a quote online from 123 that was 300 cheaper than my renewal offer from AA(Aviva). Same price as last year
You are responsible
You are responsible, the same way if a dumb cruise control drove into a wall at 120kmh because you didn't turn it off.
Keep you foot near the accelerator and be ready to take full control as you're supposed to be in control at all times.
That was a 3 though, seems to be just the Y, my 3 is with AIG since inception without issue as was my S prior to that
Yes maybe the Y is a strange one but I swapped to a MY LR with AB and there was no change to my policy.
Isn't the Y built with very few parts to simplify production?
This could lead to prohibitively expensive repair costs. Instead of a small part needing replacement after damage, a knock could lead to a write off or massive bill.
I can't think of anything else that could be driving up insurance premiums.
It's gigacasted with the battery part of the structure
There's absolutely nothing that can be done. The tech's can look at all the telemetry they want, they won't be able to overcome the fact that Tesla uses Cameras for active cruise control. Phantom braking is well documented and mostly associated with Teslas because of their use of cameras. I experience it periodically, although not as extreme as you describe. If Tesla didn't offer the best price/performance, I certainly wouldn't buy one. If someone rear ends you because of phantom braking then they were probably driving too close or not paying attention to the road so it will be their fault.
I think you can still be done for dangerous driving. No way you shouldn't be charged if your car dropped from 120/100 to 30 for no reason and caused an accident.
42k is good going on originals. I’ve almost hit 50k and the rears that I changed at 30k need replacing badly again. And fronts this time also. I got EV rated handkooks just not noise reducing. About €200 a pop to my memory. I’ll find out shortly when relacing all 4 🙈
36k on the original Michelin 20” tyres on the 2022 MY LR I have on test this week too.
Anyone got the latest SW update yet / 2024.26.6 I believe- the one with Youtube Music ?
yes. 2 weeks ago. Struggled to get Amazon music signed in before it got parked up. Will check again in 2 weeks.
You must be giving it socks 😉…..to be fair 90% of my mileage is motorway commute though…
Any recommendations for exterior cleaning products folks use at home? Trying to avoid harsh ones that end up with stains on the window trim
I generally use Reflect Autocare citrus prewash, I go between various snow foam such as Autoglym, ABDL and generally use Car pro quick detailer to finish.
A mixture of wheel cleaners, tar removers and iron/fallout removers from various brands are there too and none of them have fouled anything yet touch wood.
Black aero caps a no cost option on the order page now.
looks like I will be leaving the Tesla ranks next Monday .
Changing to a taycan .
Really liked the MY, and in some ways anxious about the tech in the Porsche .
Still, no one buys a Porsche for its efficiency or superior tech . This purchase is really a want rather than a need to get .
Great advice on here over the past couple of years which helped me make the choice on the MY
Fantastic move. Congratulations. Obviously you’ve read the PT thread and are aware of the warranty and must have recalls etc
Are you trading in the MY or selling private?
yes, 2 year Porsche warranty was a red line for me. It’s nearly 4 years old and all recalls etc have been seen to .
I’m selling MY back to a separate dealer . Private sale woudn’t work for me as i need car most days , so doing a sale in the AM and getting new car in the PM, bank transfers god willing .
Well wear, they are lovely cars. How many Km’s can you keep extending the warranty with Porsche ?
Brilliant. Graham Walker or Richie in Vector?
Tesla has just relaunched the referral scheme in US. Hopefully it will happen in Europe soon. For anyone thinking of ordering it may make sense to wait a few days to see if this happens and use a referral form an existing Tesla owner.
Richie in Vector Motors , gentleman to deal with , no BS
I’ve had the same experience with him and Vector in general. Ive bought and sold to and from them. Would always recommend them.
Hi all,
Have enjoyed reading all the positive views about the MY. I’m considering getting one when my pcp ends towards the end of the year - however, with the planned “Jupiter” I’m concerned I’ll end up with the “old” model just as the new model is announced officially.
Has anyone any information on when the facelift might launch?
It will be announced the day after you collect your Model Y.
PS: It's all rumours at this stage, isn't it? Even if Tesla were to announced it now as an early 2025 model, by the time they start producing right-hand drive models for smaller markets like us, my guess is that it would at least 9-12 months before we see low PCP/HP finance rate on it, especially with the proposed EU trade tariffs, Tesla is somewhat protected from the Chinese competition for a while.
The Model Y in RHD is made in Germany now (AFAIK) so avoids the new Chinese tariffs.
