What is more curious to me, is how a grown man can spend that much time in prison, where you get to think a lot, and still think this is about transgenders, instead of his behaviour at the dinner.

It doesn't matter if the person is still in the school or not. The student wasn't even in one of Burke classes. The reasons for Burkes suspension and then imprisonment is entirely of his own making.

Wouldn’t a compromise solution for all this have been to refer to the student simply by their legal name. If the student wants to change their name then needs to be by deed poll. It removes all the pronouns from the conversation.
I think the Burke family is like Trump. They crave media attention. They don't mind if it is negative just as long as they are in the headlines.
So the best thing the media could do is to just ignore them and let the school deal with this privately through the courts. There are many more important things nationally and internationally that the media should be spending time on instead.
Enoch Burke wasn't the teacher of the student. He may have had no dealings with him at all. His problem is the concept of the school asking teachers to refer to someone as they or them. Not with the name or the student.
A compromise would be where a court instructs him to stop turning up at the school, and Burke stops turning up.
Given the fact the party causing the impact has no grounds to be on the grounds of the school is pretty relevant to the issue of endangerment. And safeguarding students in normal scenarios would not allow for such a situation and mental health of students is an absolute priority for good reason.
I'd say the original person is irrelevant and it's none of our business.
He could easily have but he didn’t want a compromise he wanted to make noise and be a martyr. He didn’t give a shiny sh1t about the child or their feelings he wants to ram his beliefs down everyone’s throats and claim moral superiority when he is in fact just a waste of life. Sling him back inside and forget about him is my feeling on it.
It should be a crime for a grown adult to be lurking around and inside a school where they have no right to be.

He has no right to be there on the basis of a court order which he continues to defy and continues to find himself thrown in jail.
But he is not committing any crime in defying the court order and you can't just make one up.

If memory serves me correctly - Garda vetting for teachers is valid for 3 year cycles. So quite possible that his vetting has lapsed at this stage (or at best has less than 12 months to run).
And you know he isn't?
He has no legitamate reason to be there so something else is attracting to a place full of children.
