So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
I never said it was "Perfect for me"… If you read this forum you can see my outline of the issues with the current state of the design on the EWR.
Without conducting a survey of all road users passing through that area then how exactly can you gauge their feelings towards that current road design?
What empathy do groups of road users generally show for each other? Isn't everyone who's on two feet, 2 wheels or 4 wheels+ all the same?
You're saying the road is perfect for you but you're showing no empathy for other people who may use the road. Are there any public transport users, taxi drivers or private vehicle users here who also think the road is perfect?
What on earth are you on about here? Do you have a point about the cycle lane or just wanted to ramble on about road use?
Have you anything constructive to say?
I'm discussing East Wall Road, not every other road anywhere in Dublin. That would be outside the scope of this thread. You're saying that East Wall Road is perfect for you but what is it that makes it perfect? Perfect means that no modifications are required. If other people deem it to be not perfect, then there's a clash as you're not the only person who may use that road therefore the road cannot be perfect.
Can you name a road in Dublin which is perfect then?
East Wall road was fine for who exactly?
The cycle lane which joins from the one that's been there for the past 38 years so it's hardly unreasonable to want to see that old cycle lane actually getting bicycle users into the city and beyond rather than just to Eastpoint and will serve all the people who want to cycle there to work, it's also part of the Sutton to Sandycove cycle route first proposed 26 years ago..
When it's completed it should look more like this which looks great when it's done: https://www.dublincity.ie/residential/transportation/active-travel/projects/east-coast-trail-north-phase-1-alfie-byrne-road-east-wall-road-section/project-overview-and-design
And if you imagine yourself travelling on the road via another method of transport (bus, taxi, car, ambulance, etc), do you think it's still perfect? It's very important to think about the bigger picture and not to be a narcissist.
Perfect for me, dedicated cycle lane down that road now ratehr than jigging around traffic and parked cars every evening
East wall road was fine, now it's a mess with a half arsed two way clycke lane that magically appears from nowhere and doesn't actually improve anyone's use of the road.
How? East wall road is fine lol
It completely ballsed up East wall road so mission accomplished for the "planners".
Yes, it is just a relatively short section of new cycle track from the entrance to East Point Business Park, towards East Wall and down along East Wall to just south of Lidl. It ends there then, though there are separate plans for it to continue on in future. Strictly speaking there is also a new bus stop for the N4 across from Clasac and that made a small change to the old cycle path. There is also new junctions and pedestrian crossings at the entrance to East point Business Park. And there is a new section of cycle path through Fairview Park along the river.
Nothing major but a nice completion of what should have previously been done. The old cycle path didn’t really need to change, it is excellent anyway.
If we can discuss the East Wall road and Alfie Byrne Road here
Am I missing something on Alfie Byrne road it was the same ancient cycle track when I cycled in there a week or two ago from the clontarf side and only a bit of improvement beyond East Point ?
Also that junction down Church road seems tailor made to have an accident
He means single changing to double lane I guess.
It was never really closed in fairness, there has been zero enforcement since day one.
Any date on the inbound lane reopening to general traffic? Drove through there yesterday and it seems finished, bar a few snag list items and finishing touches.
Hardly surprising I'd say, add it to the list of issues along that stretch from the Alfie Byrne rd. junction, long waits for traffic signals, cars parked across the cycle lane waiting to get into Westwood, people walking in cycle lane, people cycling against direction of travel, road works had the section you mentioned blocked the other day there.
That's before we mention the new cycle lanes on the East Wall Road, if you're coming from the Port direction you have those cycle paths which seem to be full of gravel, no cycle path until you get to the Seabank then you have to wait at the signal to cross the road to get to the cycle lane which was blocked at the Service station directing you onto the roadway, disaster area.
I see Loyds on Amiens St. have taken up the cycle lane to use as a beer garden, for ACDC I guess. Do you apply to do that, or just get away with it due to no enforcement.
Dull men's club update: I think they're actually resurfacing the dug up lane outside aldi
They can just park illegally, because they do.
Just a pity we'll not see it until we're in the depths of winter. Would have been nice to get to know the new layout in a bit of sunshine
It was obvious that Christmas was a more realistic timeframe. There's still a lot of work left around the main junctions on the route and they take time to complete.
Large parts of Fairview outbound look nice now and I can't wait for it to be finished to actually start enjoying the space they've created.
I saw it closed in sections today, due to work trucks needing to use it.
But yesterday it had two vans in it, close to Talbot st. I think we need more plastic wands. 😂
Should have just said Christmas when they announced it would be September. Christmas is what the contractor's engineers were saying. But DCC insisted it would be September.
People are getting sick of the constant missed fake deadlines.
The part they opened outbound is closed again now lol
Jeepers, you'd think it was mechanically complex
Official date has been pushed to October now.
It was open today. I went as far as Lidl on it, and back again to Clontarf.
Most people just use it anyway but it's really weird how long this is taking for something so simple.
I noticed yesterday there are bollards where all the coaches were parked when the all ireland was on too.
The section on Alfie Byrne Road has been completed for weeks, but has fencing on it all that time!
