So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
He means single changing to double lane I guess.
If we can discuss the East Wall road and Alfie Byrne Road here
Am I missing something on Alfie Byrne road it was the same ancient cycle track when I cycled in there a week or two ago from the clontarf side and only a bit of improvement beyond East Point ?
Also that junction down Church road seems tailor made to have an accident
Yes, it is just a relatively short section of new cycle track from the entrance to East Point Business Park, towards East Wall and down along East Wall to just south of Lidl. It ends there then, though there are separate plans for it to continue on in future. Strictly speaking there is also a new bus stop for the N4 across from Clasac and that made a small change to the old cycle path. There is also new junctions and pedestrian crossings at the entrance to East point Business Park. And there is a new section of cycle path through Fairview Park along the river.
Nothing major but a nice completion of what should have previously been done. The old cycle path didn’t really need to change, it is excellent anyway.
It completely ballsed up East wall road so mission accomplished for the "planners".
How? East wall road is fine lol
East wall road was fine, now it's a mess with a half arsed two way clycke lane that magically appears from nowhere and doesn't actually improve anyone's use of the road.
Perfect for me, dedicated cycle lane down that road now ratehr than jigging around traffic and parked cars every evening
And if you imagine yourself travelling on the road via another method of transport (bus, taxi, car, ambulance, etc), do you think it's still perfect? It's very important to think about the bigger picture and not to be a narcissist.
East Wall road was fine for who exactly?
The cycle lane which joins from the one that's been there for the past 38 years so it's hardly unreasonable to want to see that old cycle lane actually getting bicycle users into the city and beyond rather than just to Eastpoint and will serve all the people who want to cycle there to work, it's also part of the Sutton to Sandycove cycle route first proposed 26 years ago..
When it's completed it should look more like this which looks great when it's done: https://www.dublincity.ie/residential/transportation/active-travel/projects/east-coast-trail-north-phase-1-alfie-byrne-road-east-wall-road-section/project-overview-and-design
Can you name a road in Dublin which is perfect then?
I'm discussing East Wall Road, not every other road anywhere in Dublin. That would be outside the scope of this thread. You're saying that East Wall Road is perfect for you but what is it that makes it perfect? Perfect means that no modifications are required. If other people deem it to be not perfect, then there's a clash as you're not the only person who may use that road therefore the road cannot be perfect.
What on earth are you on about here? Do you have a point about the cycle lane or just wanted to ramble on about road use?
Have you anything constructive to say?
You're saying the road is perfect for you but you're showing no empathy for other people who may use the road. Are there any public transport users, taxi drivers or private vehicle users here who also think the road is perfect?
I never said it was "Perfect for me"… If you read this forum you can see my outline of the issues with the current state of the design on the EWR.
Without conducting a survey of all road users passing through that area then how exactly can you gauge their feelings towards that current road design?
What empathy do groups of road users generally show for each other? Isn't everyone who's on two feet, 2 wheels or 4 wheels+ all the same?
What specific problems are you referring to?
Apologies, the "Perfect for me" comment should have been directed towards @Shedite27 and not you. @Paul2019 , I'm not referring to any specific problems with East Wall Road. One user described it as being perfect for him/her so I asked if there were any public transport users, taxi drivers or private vehicle users here who also think the road is perfect?
How's that relevant any way? Are you a local resident with a bit more insight? Have you requested any of the planning objections lodged by the council? Or do you wish to express your general objections to any cycle related infrastructure in Dublin?
Ah okay, understood. I thought you were unhappy with some aspect of the scheme.
What specifically is ballsed up about East Wall Road now?
I just want to understand how East Wall Road is "perfect" now, according to one poster here. However, I don't understand if the road is now perfect for everyone or if it's perfect for only some of the users of the road, depending on the way that they use the road. It's very rare for all users of a road to agree that it's perfect so I would like to discover if that is the case for East Wall Road and if so, bloody fantastic!
Going by what I see, it's perfect for no one.. Not sure there are many roads that each user of the various transport user "groups" would all agree on. Wouldn't let it eat me up though..
The flow for all users is wrong. You go from a single bike lane, then have to cross the road to join the new two lane path with no thought given to how practical that actually is for users. I've no idea why they didn't just go down the entire road with it and have the crossing down at the port end.
Then you have two car lanes converging I to one and back to two.
It's a mess.
YEah course I do, I drive, cycle and walk down that road, I know how long each mode of transport is going to take me. And now thanks to the bike lane I feel safe in all 3 modes of transport too
If you see picture 2 on this link it shows that the cycle lane will be extended..hopefully works will begin on that soon unless there's any malicious objections..

The Aldi/Lidl junction on East Wall Road is a complete mess. Trying to follow where you are supposed to be going if you are cycling will be a nightmare.
Last time I checked once you approached the petrol station you were directed back out into the line of motor traffic to take your chances to get back up the ABR.
For once I was actually on the pushbike and thought it was hideously confusing , its like they chucked all the bits in and left them there.
This is fine no? Like you're only able to exit that junction from East Wall to go left or right, and there is a gap in the paving to facilitate cyclists to just continue straight across the road and into the two way lane.
Having the junction down at the port is bananas. Most cyclists entering that part of the city will want to go down East Wall road as its the most direct way.
it is pretty simple, just cross at the Toucan crossing in front of Lidl, along with the pedestrians, couldn’t be much simpler!
There is a separate crossing if you want to go down Church Road, but not really difficult either.
Maybe I’m reading you wrong, but if you are cycling North up East Wall towards ABP, then you just stay on the two way cycle path, which passes in front of Aldi, then passes in front of the petrol station and then you just turn right onto ABP still on the cycle path all the way. No need to be on the road! It all works very well and is pretty good from using it. The only sad part is that it currently ends half way down East Wall and will be completed by a separate project. My only complaint is that as of two weeks ago, the folks building the new building there had dug up part of the new cycle lane and had partly replaced part of the new red cycle lane surface with bumpy black tar! Hopefully temporary and will be fixed properly.
