was an absolute genuine bona fide no hyperbole glorious start to the day here. From 7am right up to 10:30am. and then like as if someone flicked a switch along comes the grey slate.
Nice morning in Dublin 16. Still bright but the clouds are building. Another 20c or more day beckons.
August from 1960-1984 would have typically seen just 7 days of 20C+ at Dublin Airport. Currently every day except 2 has managed that so far and even those were still over 19.4C. Mean max of 21.6C to date there for August is +2.5C above average.

Very wet morning in Galway been raining since around 4am temp 15 degrees some Summer.
A beautiful soft wet morning in Trim, County Meath, with a fantastic cool wind that ensures the moderate rain penetrates as many areas of you as possible with the associated high humidity guaranteeing that your water covered skin stays wet. Why have a nice calm, sunny and warm mid August morning when you can experience the glorious weather of this morning!

Dark, grey, moderate rain giving way to drizzle in Dub/Kildare. 17C so too warm to dress properly for it. Awful. I hope it dries up after lunch as promised.
But yesterday was a lovely day from 11am onwards when the drizzle finished. Some lovely proper sunshine which has become so rare here it seems.
Won't need to water the veg garden today.

Although it feels like a bad summer with no spell of warm,sunny blue skies weather it must be one of the driest summers. A small stream near me has run dry which I did not see even in the hot summer of 2022.
Seems to be early for the usual end of summer Med storms, unless this is an isolated event. I always remember them mid/late September
don’t know your location but if it’s the Dublin area then you will have to continue to water your veg garden as only a mere 2.5mm fell overnight.
Only recorded 1.2mm of rain overnight, glass around here will remain brown. Fourth month in a row with below average rainfall.
Its like a switch was flipped in April.
Decent spell of above average temperatures too.
Squall like feature seems to have developed and is moving through Ulster at the moment. Will keep an eye to se eif anything develops further south into Leinster.
A short sharp spell of rain before the front clears the country, mostly in the northern half.
Just had a 60 second power shower as that narrow back of heavier precipitation moved over Trim, Meath.
Statistically dry maybe but June and July had loads of days with drizzle and light rain blowing in the wind, so wouldn't amount to much in terms of mm but still felt like unpleasant damp days. At least in Dublin.
e.g. here's the stats for Dublin airport, lots of days with rain reported in the 3 hour summaries but where the daily total is 'trace' or less than 1mm.
August has been mostly better with plenty of actual dry days, albeit a few crap days as well.
Interesting. It feels the opposite in West Dublin. June was dry, July was average, but we've only had 2 dry days in August. Not much accumulation, but nearly every day has light drizzle.
I've been away for a good chunk of this month so can't really comment, mainly just going off reports on here which have been mostly positive this month. But here's the actual stats for August, 10 of 15 days at Dublin airport with rain recorded in the 3 hourly reports, so you're probably not far off

Currently among the windier this century to date at Cork Airport but doesn't stand out as anything exceptional. 1985 was atrocious! 2024 has averaged 9.0 kts here, 1985 averaged 12.2 kts! 12.2 kts = 23 km/h rounded for context.
2020 was the windiest this century so far and 2024 is a good deal below that so far.
The wind and also cooler temperature have probably contributed to drier land. Have temperatures exceeded 25 degrees any day this summer? Certainly can't recall any day in Munster although 23/24 some days.
Ya 25c hasn't been breached. Got 23c in Sligo one day. Even 20c unreachable here most days. Last few Summers 30c reached.
