Seems like a bit of a backwards move in the current environment especially as Dunnes, Tesco & SuperValu will even deliver to your door. Click and Collect is much easier to do and good for customers.
I never used the click and collect. But used the website for checking stock many times. Feck.
I am very surprised by the move, as it was always fully booked, as far as I could see. Its not like it was free either (unlike Dunnes and Tesco). It was €6.49 per slot.
But now that I think about it, I should have seen it coming as I've noticed a lot of things on their website lately marked "in store only".
I guess Aldi reckon get the customers into the store, and they'll spend more - and the few they'll lose, they can afford.
Which store do you use if you don’t mind me asking? I didn’t get this email and use two Dublin stores for C&C.
I personally use Aldi at Newlands Cross, but it applies to all stores. It's up on their website now.
I suppose if you're buying your groceries online it's unlikely you're going to be tempted into buying a speedboat from the middle aisle 😂.
We didn't have C&C where I am but the site was handy for browsing new stuff. Would be good if they kept that going.
Click & Collect is bad for Aldi business model IMO.
It ties up 1 member of staff exclusively for the service where as in store staff rotate between checkouts & stock taking, etc as needed.
Thanks.
Do people take no pleasure from food shopping? I enjoy the process.
I have mobility issues so it's literally very painful for me. Click & Collect has been one of those thing that makes life easier.
Well, that's a good reason.
Would delivery not be better again?
Only Dunnes and Super-Valu deliver to my area, but I use Dunnes Click & Collect too. Find it very good, but didn't make big orders and usually got most stuff in Aldi.
Between DS 10 off 50 vouchers and not paying for a slot, I guess I'll end up doing the bulk of my shopping there in future, and it might balance out a bit.
Maybe an Aldi in store once a month, or something.
For some older folks, it's a good excuse to get out of the house, especially in Winter. So online won't be for everyone.
But the option for older folks (or anyone) to get out of the house and go and do their shopping instore was always there. That hasn't changed?
I know shopping can be nice and can be fun but the way I think the world is going is that people will migrate to doing a lot of online shopping. Life seems to be getting busier and I could see a point where people do the bulk of their day to day shopping needs online with pickup or delivery but visit nicer ships in person for specialist items. I enjoy shopping but do find myself wondering why I’m doing this as I’m going around Aldi or SuperValu getting the same stuff I got last week. Fair enough I might pick up an item in the middle aisle or a product that I wouldn’t normally get as it catches my eye but I’d rather be browsing around a specialty food shop for instance knowing my main shipping is at home and packed away.
You're not wrong. I know a few people who did their big weekly shop online and picked it up on the way home from work - it was just convenient, and saved their free time for other things. Like family and kids!
It just seems ironic to me that they're claiming removing the click & collect service is for customers benefit. I can't see prices notably reducing instore because of the removal of click and collect for those who used it!
Aldi Nutgrove have now introduced self scan checkouts, they're a god send! No more getting in the queue with one item hoping the family in front let you go ahead of their full trolley shop!
There was a girl behind me buying a single bottle of Rose last weekend. I offered to let her go ahead of me as I had a full trolley of stuff and the checkout hadn't even opened. She declined. Needless to say, I was baffled.
Self scan checkouts would make me far more likely to pop into Aldi to grab "a few bits" as opposed to Tesco where I usually stop. Weekly shop in Aldi aint changing anytime soon.
Always pleasure in wandering around looking to see what's in stock — never pleasure when it comes to the checkout, I realise how much I've picked up, that it's costing way more than I envisaged, and I realise I have about three times more things than will fit in the one bag I brought when I left the house since I told myself "ah sure I'm only picking up two or three things".
I'm the opposite. I save a fortune and find new stuff to try if I time it right for the 50% off sticker time.
Plus there is a lot of impulse buying for middle aisle stuff
Thats what they're hoping for - make the customer to go instore and they'll spend more.
Speaking for myself alone, I'd rather spend the extra at Dunnes or Tesco and still be able to just do my order online, then pick it up and take it home.
I do enjoy it. But I prefer when I have a bit extra money and I can buy things in specialised shops or things that might be a little bit more luxurious.
I don't shop in my local Tesco much, but the self scan is a big draw for me there. It's the only supermarket in my town that has the facility. I can always keep an eye on my spend as I go along. Day to day shopping, I'm definitely switched to Dunnes, mostly because of the vouchers. I'm in a Dunnes voucher group on FB and it has saved me money several times. I tried click and collect a few times, but I prefer to do my own.
You can get Dunnes vouchers here as well, there is a thread for them.
Never knew that. I'll have a look.
It is indeed good for getting 'im indoors out and about! 😀
The new Fully Loaded peanuts are lovely. I have so far ended up buying all three bags together, invariably scoffing almost the entire lot, unable to decide which of them is the best flavour - Buffalo wings, salt and vinegar or jalapeno - and cursing myself for it afterwards!
The new self-service tills in Nutgrove are great, I agree!
Here you go… its a popular thread! Most people just share screenshots of the vouchers are giving away via PM.
Happy savings!
I detest it, the shopping itself and unpacking it at home. I still go in person though so I can check dates etc.
I love it 😁 never know what interesting new thing I'll pick up 👍
