forget it i give up, posts not quoting again.

That is the effect for the Belfast service yes.
But it is entirely intertwined with the northern commuter service pattern. It’s not an option of itself.
Option 1 means a 20 minute gap and then a 40 minute gap in the commuter services to/from Drogheda and option 2 means two 30 minute gaps.
And for option 2 the northern commuters will be slower as well.
I'm not sure the backlash would be as big as the media makes it out to be. There will always be a vocal minority opposed to any change but surely most people aren't going to mind spending a few minutes changing trains in return for a much more frequent service.
It might be sensible for IrishRail to trial the Greystones changeover on weekends to get passengers used to the idea.
There was big dramatic headlines a few weeks that Irish rail were going to end direct direct rail link to Wexford and that this was yet another insult to the rail users of Wexford. Yes technically this was true but the alternative means a much more frequent service which is surely the end goal
given that the change is for change sake and is about ideology and providing minimal service and capacity to the line, the reality is that yes sufficient people will be opposed to this unnecessary change as they will realize that better can be delivered, and enough of us will get the message out there that this is a service proposal based on stifleing growth of the line. essentially, this is a form of the discredited no growth models as practiced in britain on both the welsh and borders and northern railways franchises in the past. wasting time trialling something that will fail to get passengers used to something they aren't interested in, that is ideology based, is a waste of everyone's time. the only reason people are supporting this nonsense is ideology, the same reason it would be implemented, people who don't use the services forcing more **** services on a line that has always had **** services because shur that is the way it has always been done. even if it was the case that it was just a vocal minority opposed and from what i see that's not the case, they are right because they can see this for what it actually is and they know better can and will ultimately be delivered.
I would provide feedback on the stops. I have gotten the proposed 20:20 ex Waterford serving all those. They operated the exact same service in 2011 as part of the tall ships. I wouldn't do it again in a hurry.
The 16:40 today is bad enough. I do hope once the new station in Waterford opens they will be able to improve things. As for the pre 9am arrival, the current schedule does make an 06:10-08:25 and 09:15 return work with very little impact on existing services.
There isn't really a driver shortage any more.
That's not really true. There are still not enough drivers to deliver a weekend PPT service for example, or to deliver an enhanced DART weekend service, or extra services on certain Intercity routes, including Rosslare.
There's still some way to go.
That's incorrect. There's enough drivers for a weekend PPT service, and enough for Rosslare, as well as other Intercity routes. It's not a lack of drivers that's curtailing the services you mentioned.
Do you have a source for the amount of available drivers?
I do indeed. 😂
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2024/07/23/waiting-times-on-some-drogheda-commuter-line-trains-to-increase-as-frequency-reduces/
Irish times reporting option 1 has been chosen for the Northern line, which sees a gap of 40 minuets followed by 20
And of course the IT headline sells it as a big negative without saying that was the option commuters picked or the reason why they picked it.
It's also a totally false headline - the frequency has not "reduced". What idiots are writing this. If anything, it's all to enable a higher frequency on Dublin-Belfast, as well as higher frequency into GCD.
Appalling reporting.
Tim O'brien is a poor reporter in my experience. Also shocking that the sub editor didn't spot the word corollary is completely mangled.
I wonder what the results will be for the feedback process. I say this as I gave my two cents when consultation was open and never heard a word. Not even acknowledgement of receipt. Also, we are now just under a month away from the proposed implementation date.
Sorry for off topic. Anyone know journey time at moment on train incld newry xfer for Dub to Belfast. Has the 9.17am arriving at 11.45am. Have a 12.15 appointment nearby,. Thanks
Updated timetable is now up in the journey planner for 25th August onwards.
The news article outlining the changes and rationale for other changes not happening is online now too:
https://www.irishrail.ie/en-ie/news/New-Timetable-2024
These look like th main changes
PPT Terminating at Connolly had the highest feedback and IE make zero changes to the proposel.
The PPT services terminating at Connolly might have had the largest responses to the consultation, but the explanation tells you that there would have been a much larger objection if they’d changed the Maynooth or Northern services to terminate at Connolly as a result - the numbers on those trains are far in excess of the PPT.
You can’t please everyone no matter what happens with timetable changes.
Stopping Maynooth-Drumcondra services are showing as taking 33-34 minutes on the journey planner for the new timetable.
Its 38-44 on the current timetable
I can't see this being right? Can't find any actual pdf timetables to compare to
On a sample journey, its a minute or two cut between most stations. Some are showing two minutes between two stations, which would only be possible with faster acceleration and massively cut dwell times.
For the new Wexford change, does that imply that the 21:25 Wexford/Gorey train will physically be attached to the train running the 22:05 Gorey/Connolly service (assuming they're both operated by the same train type)? Or is it the case that passengers will transfer at Gorey and then the Wexford train will go special to Connolly.
Also good to see Broombridge added to all Sligo services imo. That will provide a good interchange with the Luas for onward connections.
No as the Wexford set overnights in Gorey to operate the commuter service next morning.
At the moment it runs empty from Wexford to Gorey.
Passengers will transfer to another train at Gorey. Up to now, An empty train ran every night on weekdays between Wexford and Gorey so the only change is passengers are now allowed onboard.
Darts seem to be taking longer again. Trains now leave Greystones 3 minutes earlier, and arrive in Tara Street 1 minute later. Yes, it's only 4 minutes difference, but the same thing happened that last time they adjusted the timetable. And that's before they account for the new station at Woodbrook whenever that opens).
Ah right thanks, wasn't aware of that. I thought it previously went special from Wexford all the way to Connolly.
Response 16 says otherwise at the bottom of the link below.
No link there.
Talk to anyone working on the ground and they'll tell you the truth. Maybe you're just listening to the company line.
