Sell in the mart 50c to 70c extra can be difference
Ya 50-70c less than factory price
The opposite here
Unless the processors are buying direct the tanglers are sending them in at a loss so and that is not happening. Maybe along the border where NI prices may be influencing the trade but in general no. At present some marts are 5-10c ahead of mart prices but the rest are below it.
I highly doubt it.
What weight, age and type of cattle were you selling that you think got that difference? Or throw up a mart docket with your own details blocked out and show us.
Bulls
Don't believe it's possible even for a processor.
Bulls are too easy agitated and can't get from the shed to chill quickly enough.
I'd be thinking a lot of processors wouldn't even want bulls from a mart due to too meat not setting properly bruising etc.
More likely bulls go for further feeding. Very few that don't specialise in bulls understand when they are finished.
When I was feeding bulls I always found that a bull that had a tone of meal ate with someone else had the hunger gone out of them and would do great thrive on the next tone with me.
50c to 70c?
I'm doing something very wrong arguing weekly over 2 to 5 cents
Maybe over 24month bulls if processors are stuck for stock, but you shoukd not be holding such animals, tgey such be gone sub 24 months.
They are definitely paying more for certain types of finished stock in the marts down here. AA and HE cattle are attracting a premium of 30 - 40c more in the ring. I killed cattle last week and popped into the mart later to see cattle my exact lw going for 180e more.
Was your liveweight from fresh weight in your yard or did you allow for weight loss in transport? Depending on the cattle and the mart that could be anything from 6-10%.
Some Cattle are making up to 200 euro less or more than their worth in marts at the moment.
You must have been knocked down to o- on some he or aa that's exactly what I always see with the grid base price is not as important as people think when they can take so much off you with the grid payment system
Weigh them in factory scales on the way in.
Can I ask you if a frx o-/+ factory fit nimal is loaded at 11am and sold at 5pm and weighs 600 kg at mart ,is 300 kg dead weight 50% k/o roughly what it would work out in factory assuming loaded at 11 and killed in the evening
At O- =1434
O= 1476
O+=1494
What are these prices ?
Dw losses are not as bad as standing around mart losses. The internals of the animal makes not difference to the dead beast weight while the 'whole' animal is weigh in the mart with every internal fluid .
In the above scenario you are looking at 50% of live weight.
Those are the prices if the bullock killed out 300kgs @a base of 4.9 at the different grades.
Problem with marts is some scales seem to underweigh cattle significantly one very popular mart in particular
I've bought cattle out of many marts and it all depends on the individual animal rather than the mart I know a mart that lads have said that cattle weight poor yet I've seen animals going in to that mart and selling within 1 hour and looking very full and on the topic of ko % I always work on my animals fresh weight at home and dividing it into cold weight
I had an over 36 month chx sold a fortnight ago, 615kg liveweight…poor weight for the age I thought...the lad I bought him off as a calf told me his mother had only 3 teats working and he didn't get enough milk when young so I got him cheap
I struggled putting weight on him as he always seemed to have a digestive upset or something going on and always looked scrawny....anyway he dried up over the last couple of months and looked OK but definitely not fit to kill so I chanced him in the mart
Sold for €1790....I thought that was a good result for the age and weight...factory can be the place to go and mart can sometimes work too...
Or am I wrong? I know because I had to keep him for ages I probably lost money but no buyer gives a shite about what hardship a seller had...
sent these 3 during the week. 2 over 2 year old bulls and 1 just under. Paid under for 2.
1 was also a female on the card.
Serious kill out weights are they reared or bought in
Great fat covers on good grading bulls
what nut/meal were you giving them
What was the net margin on them. Wer
e there more with them. If not were you a tad lucky that there was no kick up over the Female card. Did you not get it rectified easy enough a herd test.
As well had you much issues over the two over 24 months
home bred out of good sucklers. They were getting home saved and rolled barley with a balancer. 50/50. No issues with over age or cards as deal with same agent. Always does his best. Some comrade heifers in June
Brillant stock fair play
What is you unit sticking rate accross the farm. Would the co and calf cost to weating be 600+
Unreal weights for heifers
