Well, that's the problem.
Man this thread has become one shítty industry story after another. Such a black hole of an industry, you'd wanna wonder aside from financial pressures what'd make you work on it
I think Game Informer was always more a US phenomenon than an Irish one, but it's still depressing to see another long running outlet fall with the inevitable job losses (and fewer places for the staff to go). I've said it many times before, but every outlet that goes is the loss of a place for young and new writers to hone their craft, make contacts, get editing experience (on both sides), make a name for themselves. It's not so easy to go independent when you haven't had that experience and opportunity.
Jason Schreiers article is up now regarding Bungie.
Wow game informer are gone, can't say I'm surprised really, they've been under financial pressure a long time and all their best staff left a long time ago, still sad to see them go, loved reading the website.
New Darksiders game announced
Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Gunfire Games are working on a new game in the Darksiders series, the companies announced.
"Be prepared to ride again…," reads the teaser text. "Will we reveal anything else at this point in history? No."
Wreckfest 2 announced.
Smashing!
Avowed pushed back to February
Would have preferred if they moved Indiana jones back and not Avowed but at least we have a date for it anyway 🙄.
Sweet! New Darksiders and Wreckfest. No dates so im assuming both are still a bit away, but Wreckfest 2 looks closer to release. Loved the first one, so will probably be a day 1 or close to release purchase for me.
Darksiders, I'm gonna have to wait for more details. Adored the first 2 games, dark and gritty but not too serious. I think they severely dropped the ball with 3, Fury just didn't have the same pull as War/Death. She apparently grows on you, but I just couldn't get into the game at all. And Genesis was such a departure that I only played an hour or two before giving up. So hopefully more like 1/2. I'd prefer a Strife solo game first before a 4in1 game, and the line from the trailer Horseman makes me hope it's a solo game. Time shall tell.
In throwing shade news, someone from S-Game, an anonymous dev for upcoming Phantom Blade Zero, basically said Xbox is not required, that they're not competitive and offer little support/harder to develop on. Went on to say Sony are great, offering free expertise and even devs to help get it across the line without any expectation to keep it PS5 exclusive. Just that PC/PS5 are the platforms to dev for these days. How true that be is anyones guess, seeing as this lad stayed anon, but them be scathing words.
Sounds like fanboyism and very unprofessional. I imagine they're quite a low level as they are remaining anonymous. Heard nothing but good things about Xbox dev support and I'm guessing Sony are doubling down on support for this one like they do for all third party exclusives.
You think anything positive about Sony is fanboyism! [pac]
It sounds more like Asian anti American sentiment. I mean they are working on a game which never had a Xbox sdk so they're not exactly experts in Microsoft dev support.
Maybe they tried and gave up, who knows! Not their first game, and the last one seems to have released on everything but Xbox... like it got Android, iOS, PC and PS5, but no Xbox. Seems like a very strong statement if someone has never used the xbox sdk before. I'm gonna assume they have at least tried it and decided its not worth the hassle.
Honestly sounds like a comment from a nobody on the dev team. Very much doubt the upper management will be happy with a comment like that being attributed to them.
Indeed, they've come out against this claim.
Well that was quick. Never heard of the game before, looked up previous games and same with them.
Is it really big news or clickbait for xbox haters?
Clickbait during a slow game news cycle.
It stunk of nonsense because no company is stupid enough to burn bridges with a potential partner and there's a non zero chance that they are using Microsoft products for development.
I'm just gonna stop reading news altogether. I used never, not sure why I am now. But it seems pointless. I even went and checked that it was on a few sites... so yeah, just like the normal news, I'll just stop watching/reading it. World is fukked.
More ****-housery from GameStop higher ups.
The current versions of Doom and Doom 2 have been delisted from all storefronts with a new port replacing them, combining Doom + Doom II running in the Kex Engine instead of Unity like the previous ports. The new version is also compatible with all Boom source mods.
This is available on all platforms now.
https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/en-US/article/doom-doomii-release-notes
This is free for all owners of Doom or Doom 2, the previous Unity ports will still be downloadable for anyone that owned them.
New machinehead games episode. Nice. Their Quake and Quake 2 campaigns were excellent
I missed this, but there's also a new SNES port of Doom being released.
Tango Gameworks taken over and “revived” by PUBG publisher Krafton, with plans to expand Hi-Fi Rush IP.
Don't trust Krafton but it's better than nothing. Still can't believe MS shuttered Tango.
A bit of a cursed choice of publisher given their record, but John Johanas and the rest of the team seem to be on board so fingers crossed this is good news in the end.
I don't think HiFi Rush was the success everyone believes it was, it seems like a lot of players only played it because it was included in gamepass. I would be more interested in Ghostwire or Evil Within IPs.
It's a good game but it's not groundbreaking as some would claim.
HiFi rush was a perfect example of how good GamePass could be. The type of game nobody will sign up for Gamepass for by itself but that they’re delighted they have access to as part of it.
I thought it was a really good sign that MS was trying to build a varied service that would include a lot of non traditional games - things that would be considered risky if they had to rely on sales, but would be ideal as a small part of a big offering. So it was disappointing to see that they didn’t really see it that way, and still somewhat expect all games to move the needle more than they probably should be expected to.
