One more sleep till tickets go on sale.
Never noticed that before!
Anyone know if the George Fitzgerald set is a live one or his DJ set? I would have expected him to be in the tent but Kolsch is on then. GF’s show a couple of years back was sensational
Looks like live to me! Agreed that was some show in 2019
It's only improving after each update. Hoping for a rain free weekend now!
Yeah
Yr currently has it practically rain free from 3pm Friday onwards
Will settle for that forecast bar the rain Monday morning - every chance that will improve. Don't fancy a post prodigy broken sleep and trying to get from the trenches to the car in Noah and his ark like weather
If its a choice between having rain over the weekend and rain lugging gear back to the car on Monday morning I know which one I'm choosing 😊
The Sunday rain is tracking a bit further north on the latest GFS model, so should hopefully stay away until well into Monday morning. Even then it won't be particularly bad: https://www.netweather.tv/charts-and-data/gfs
(click UK Precipitation from the first Chart Type drop-down menu, then the 00/03/06/09… etc buttons across the top show the predicted radar every 3hrs.

I will say this is exactly what happened at Beyond the Pale. Totally Free flow for 2 years, but this year, you were only allowed one open can walking into the arena. It was not heavily publicized before and a lot of people including me were taken by surprise.
There will always be less/more enthusiastic searchers, but I wouldn't be surprised if "one open can" is enforced.
I'm not sure about btp as I've never been, but there's nowhere where this would be checked at ATN, main arena and the other stages aren't separated in any way, now of course this year that could obviously change.
If this should happen the revolution will be swift and bloody.
I’ve been to the last two Beyond The Pale. They had the same “one can” policy stated for both years I went. It was policed completely differently both years - anything goes last year, this year it depended on when I went through. Everything from full body cavity search to walking through with a few cans no probs.
Given that ATN’s own website has conflicting info, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt for now. They’d surely have to flag this big a policy change way more clearly. Major ruckus incoming if they try to enforce “open cans only”
They still have goodwill built up from issues that they solved from previous years, be a shame to lose that now. I think we'll be ok though.
And this is why me and my whiskey won't be bothered by any can policy.
Plus, if the Guinness is as good as last year I'll be laughing.
I keep reading about how good the guinness was last year, but I didn't partake. Did it come in proper glasses or plastic?
Plastic, you'll never get glass at a festival
Was there a particular bar that had the best pints? jesus good Guinness at outdoor event...what a world
It came in plastic but I never had as good a Guinness from plastic, or at a festival in general. IMHO it was better than the pints in glass you get in some establishments.
Only one way to find out though... taste test tomorrow!
From (hazy) memory there was nowhere in particular that stood out, I just remember it all being well above average.
Agreed. Certainly no checks once inside the arena, but I could certainly envisage this happening at the entrance between the campsite & the Bandstand field. As @MattD said, you could be lucky/unlucky with whoever is on duty at the time. EP have pat-downs and bag searches, but they are set up for that with tables, barriers etc. At ATN it could maybe be more of a swift, "do you have any unopened drink in your bag?" line of questioning rather than full bag/body searches to avoid bottlenecks at the entrance points. Let's hope none of this comes to pass. I love the relaxed nature of free-flow and it is rarely (if ever) abused at ATN. EP has taught me how to be creative in shipping cans into the main arena shall we just say… Too tired and old for that auld rigmarole now!
Remember the Guinness Bar at entrance to Bandstand had whopping pints on the Thursday evening last year.. were delish!
Yeah the Guinness bar by the belonging bandstand is the best.
Ya but keep it between me you and the boardsies :)
The Guinness has been savage the last few years. Given the general nature and feel of the festival I can't see an open can policy been enforced. Just smile and have a bit of banter with the security, they're mostly sound.
...
Is anyone planning to get the train via Dublin tomorrow? It says on the ATN travel page there's buses from Waterford to Curraghmore but only from Friday.
I'm going tomorrow by bus but am curious about other options 🤔
It appears that the Dublin bus service goes direct to the festival on Thursday, shuttle buses start Friday. Guess I'll stick to the bus 👍
Having security checkpoints within the festival is such a bad buzz and would really put me off, free flow makes such a difference. No one wants to spend 7+ quid a pint and people end up just sitting at the campsite for so much longer instead of floating around and taking it all in. Wouldn't be surprised if they enforced it but I would be raging
@Ruanmcg or anyone else, is your mate still selling their ticket? A friend of mine was looking to get a last minute one below face value if it's still available! Maybe send us a PM if so.
