Hi.
Do you know the date when you had your last drink?
I'm now on 1364 days without a drop. :)
Glad to be done with the demon drink.
Maybe you need something to distract you. Even a couple evenings per week to start with. Exercise, organic gardening and VR are helpful to keep me from thinking about drink.
You've mentioned your v. high bp and liver issues and you can't seem to get a hold on your boozing. I'd advise to fully quit.
Currently 9 days, this time.
I know it's very easy to say but anybody who is trying to cut down or cut drink has to have something to do to fill the time with something ,for me it was exercise ,that was a big help to break the habit especially drinking at home .
I've gone to my local, but having a coffee instead of a beer.
I wish I could get into exercise, but I hate it. It's nice to have some reward after the day's work.
Exercise can just walking or cycling ,it doesn't have to be full on team stuff etc . If you can go to your local and drink coffee or non alcohol drinks that's fine I would think too of course .If your health is an issue definite action has to be taken .
Yes, I find that I can go to my usual pubs and have something non alcoholic to drink, so I'm lucky with that.
I also find that I've no interest in alcohol if I'm after eating, so I'm planning on using some of the money I save on booze to go out for food more.
I have a bad tendency to not eat during the day so that I can get more bang from the evening pints. My tolerance is very high.
almost like it’s an addictive drug

152 days now from 2nd March 2024.
Before that I did 426 days from 1st Jan 2023.
Determined to go off it for longer this time.
Day 4
I'm feeling a bit irritable and bored. Might go out for food, that should help.
Day 5
I went to the pub with a friend today and had a 1% beer (Kinnegar Low Tide, quite nice actually), and also a coffee and herbal tea. The lack of alcohol didn't bother me at all.
Within the past couple of days I've noticed a marked improvement in my GI symptoms, really hoping that that will last. My high blood pressure symptoms have also decreased a lot.
I'm feeling good about this now, although I know I will probably have a few beers at some stage, but hoping that that won't set me back to the same pattern of near daily boozing. Or I just might quit completely, let's see (I tell myself).
I know from experience that I can be good at starting new habits, but very bad at maintaining them, like a lot of people I suppose. But I think I'm heading for a very early death if I don't make that change now.

If possible go for early morning walks. Doesn't have to be a long walk but it will really help with a lot of things including the GI you mention. My digestion in general has improved a lot with early morning walking.
These have been more like IBS symptoms. Severe diarrhoea etc. 🤢
Yeah really getting off topic now but Id be looking to get referred to a specialist by your GP for that. Could be anything. I had trouble and actually ended up in AnE with severe diarrhea a few times in my late 30s early 40s. Eventually got seen by a dietician who recommended I try Fodmap for my problems and reintroduce foods 1 at a time that I used to eat. Turns out I have a severe intolerance to onions. This was also while I was drinking which didn't help matters. Cutting down / giving up alcohol helps everything but definitely get proper IBS advice as it can really mess up your nutrition and energy levels.
Yeah, thank you, I've looked into the FOMAP thing a bit. I suspect raw garlic is not good for me, and I love garlic, but it does seem to me now that alcohol is certainly not helping matters.
One thing at a time 🤞
For anyone wondering whether they can go back to having a few beers I would suggest that if they are visiting this thread they probably aren't in the category of someone who can have a few beers.
For that matter, I don't really think anyone on the planet can have a few beers and get away with it but I would sweepingly and unhelpfully generalise now and say that anyone thinking of quitting needs to just quit and let go of those few beers/whatever happy association you have with alcohol.
Yes, easier said than done, I know but there is a point where you need to realise that you are a human being you cannot drink and take it from there.
I was dry for 3 months, figured i was "cured". Within a couple of weeks I was back to a bottle of whiskey a day. I am now resigned to the fact I can't be an occasional drinker. Thats it.
Your either in or your out. No middle ground for me!
Had family over today. Had a small wine spritzer.
Will start fresh again tomorrow.
Spent the weekend visiting family and had a few Heineken zeros. Think I'll actually manage to stay off it for good. Life is far less stressful when sober
Having a few pints tonight, ending my 11 day streak.
Hope to keep most days alcohol free from now on.
28 days today.
Well done, keep it going. 👍🏻
Was in the pub last night, almost everyone around me supping creamy looking pints but wasn't one bit tempted.
Fair play to you. I tried this a few times. Usually last about an hour before I get stuck into the stout, stogies and shorts 😵💫. Im better off out of it altogether.
I found this too, although I'm back drinking today and yesterday.
I felt quite comfortable in the pub when not consuming alcohol, although I did get a bit bored after an hour.
I found the Guinness zero very good though. It's lighter tasting.
I was in the pub to play cards. I wouldn't go just to go drink. Not at 7 euros for 400ml of lucozade!
I do like Guinness Zero, I look forward to when I can just ask for a pint of it with out having to ask do they have it first.
