I've a litre bottle of Laphroaig sitting in my wine cellar for about 10 or 15 years. I've a couple of Scottish friends who tried to get me into the really smoky ones but they're not for me. I know I'll not open this one. My preference is for single pot still in general but I'm not averse to a nice blend
PM is probably best way to "negotiate" these swaps but I'm sure the regular posters here would be interested to see what gets swapped for what .... maybe worth a separate thread
Iirc earlier on the thread there was chat about a home blend of peated Scotch with Irish pot still... tweak the proportions to get the exact level of smokiness you want.
I remember this too, I think it might have been Cazale that was experimenting with home blends to get that smokey 'sweet spot' and use up old bottles on the shelf?
Yes it was Cazale, alas hasn't been about since last year, mentioned health issues before going quiet. Their contributions are missed.
I tried to have a quick search but boards search being what it is… and google flooded with results.
Ardbeg 10... Got at a very reduced price in Windsor of late..
And Caol Ila 12 (1L)... Can't say it was a bargain but it was something of a "love match". I've always liked indie bottlings and the odd cask strength from Caol Ila, so it was time to take a whirl on the current 12.
It is... well... excellent, frankly. Made me feel justified on the point. Comparable to Kilchoman Machir Bay.
Very nice! I have 3 or 4 bottles of Scotch at home but I'm saving 2 for very special occasions. Don't think I've tried anything from Caol Ila yet.
I'm comparing and contrasting two very different whiskeys tonight. MVR 2022 versus Dingle Single Malt batch 4. While there is certainly a difference in the quality, it's nowhere near the €150 price difference. Both very enjoyable.
Yeah batch 4 for me was where Dingle started getting it right. 5 is slightly better, and 6 is just gorgeous. (hence why it's batch 6 that's sold out here!)
Was that photo taken in The Bow Bar in Edinburgh? If so, cracking pub, great selection of whiskeys
Well spotted. The centre of Edinburgh feels a bit like a theme park these days (yes I was a tourist too, of course... ;) ), but the Bow Bar is still a super place to visit. I like the Blue Blazer also.
Thanks for the tip, The Blue Blazer looks super alright. We sometimes stay in the Haymarket when visiting Edinburgh, looks like I would have walked past it before on the way into town without spotting it, it's on the to-do list now :-)
Had a horrible Monday morning at work!
What's going on here? Tell us more!
What are the barrels marked brown sugar, hazelnut, forest fruits...? Tasting notes for the barrel?
marked as the major flavour notes. It's blocked in the top picture but it's a 34yr Old smokey bacon whiskey that's out of this world but has been marked never for sale!
A wee quick trip to Scotland
When you say batch 6 is sold out, where do you mean?
In Ireland. Available on the continent alright
You can buy it on their web site - available there.

A few places still have it here alright. I got a bottle not too long ago. Probably pick up another couple before it’s totally gone.
Any reviews of their Grianstad an tSamhraidh single pot still? I've cut back on my purchases these days and €95 would be a big deal at the moment, but I did get the previous 6 in the series.
I have it on the shelf if you want to try before you buy?
Loving the wd o connell 5 year old amontillado. Must be something different going on at distilling or cask stage because this is a stunner and I would normally lean towards scotch
Picked up a bottle of Duchas in Aldi. Bargain for 25 quid. Nice mouth feel. Bit of sweetness without overpowering it
Sorry should have stipulated that none available in Ireland online.
I heard supervalue in Dingle had some recently.
Yeah that's the Cask strength version. I know that's available alright. But it's the regular version I'm talking about. Typically €75-€80.

Good review here
I've a bottle open at the moment and I'm really enjoying it. Was worried about the Rye cask finish making it a bit too spicy, but the single pot sweetness factor handles it brilliantly. Lovely drop.
Where are you based?

Going to be a good weekend
Picked up a bottle of Armorik single malt for the campfire tipple on our French camping trip last month. That it's all gone is an indication of how pleasantly surprised I was. If I was making a comparison it would be to something like Highland Park.
