Saw a similar question on Reddit. Apart from the high cost of living and poor services.
That kind of statement comes from people who've watched too much BBC growing up. 😂
Well compared to other countries, like the Germans tried to force the Polish to give up their language, they obvs didn't.
The Serbians tried to force Kosovars to give up Albanian, they didn't either.
what! irish is banned now! when the fcuk did this happen! ffs! bring back the brits, at least we had our language when those lads were here!
Our own free will?
I wonder what languages were spoken in North/South America/Australia/New Zealand etc before the arrival of colonists.
how even before covid we hero worship businesses, business people and businesses owners. Putting them on pedestals a billion kilometres into the sky… John and Mary Kelly after 10 years sweat, toil and hard work, just expanded and opened their second hair salon…
you rarely or never see or hear about people providing services….like airport workers on a freezing January night loading bags and cargo….dangerous enough and uncomfortable enough environment….and certainly the pay is not commensurate with the risks, efforts or conditions …
🤣 It's own free will!
The "Ah, sure it'll be grand" attitude. It's certainly good to not lose the head in a crisis or anything but it also means that certain problems just never get addressed. I'm struggling to think of another country that has abandoned its language of its own free will like Ireland has.
Group think. Most people find it difficult to see another way of thinking. For example we love to think we're very open minded but as soon as we're confronted by a culture or way of thinking that's opposite we can't deal with it eg fundamental religious beliefs.
Some people seem to think we're the most dangerous, unsafe, etc country in the World andeverywhere else is Utopia.
Criticising out heritage. Talking crap about our language. Having Stockholm syndrome with Britain.
…in what way?
…most countries are experiencing the exact same problems we are such as housing, health care, environmental issues etc etc….
Our inability to govern ourselves.
The way that so many Irish people love to belittle their own country.
Sorry, I was being sarcastic.
…oh will can be a powerful thing, the will to maintain the status quo, is very very strong!
Not entirely true. There are plenty of sportspersons, writers and musicians who have contributed to Irish culture.
But I do concede that a lot of people only have negative interactions with travellers.
The Irish mentality that all social and economic problems are easy to solve if you just will it to happen.
Travellers. Contribute nothing positive, at home or on their travels.
Particularly when the League of Ireland franchises are equally talented, and entertaining.
…acceptance of the high levels of homelessness, with some kids developing rickets ffs!
…go ireland inc!
I was at a Tom Petty gig where the crowd started to sing this, in the middle of his concert!
He just stopped and stood in silence till they stopped.
Absolute cringe
People comparing the country to the UK, the reality is that at this stage apart from a common language there is no basis for it - different democratic system, different economy, different politial and social ties and commitments etc…. Comparing us to anyone of the smaller EU member states would be much more realistic.
That almost always has it's origin in their political machine and is done to win Irish American votes.
Irish people following English soccer franchises.
Genuinely pathetic.
As an Irish citizen, the phrase ' Its not WHAT you know that counts, its WHO you know ' remains very pertinent.
"Happy Paddy's Day" flags flown from The waxweorks in d'Olier Street now.
The way people in responsible/high positions brazen it out rather than resigning. When scandals happen, everyone complains etc., but after a while it dies down and nothing changes.
They are bound to find a link between Simon and Kamala.
Trawling through the genealogy of every American president trying to find some "Irish" in them somewhere.
The obsession with American politics, so much so that they call themselves Trump or Harris fans! They could care less about Irish politics.
