After the way they ousted Kevin McCarthy, the insane clown posse that makes up the far right side of the wing believe they have a lot of power. I don't think they do, and they'll keep handing the house and presidency to the republicans instead. The Senate is a bit more of a coin toss, depending on the year.

If Trump loses the GOP are in big trouble. There is no one else like Trump. A few have tried, but Trump is unique.
And even if he loses, why would he stop? He has seen that simply continuing on is perfectly fine. Nothing changes.
Trump runs again in 2028. There is simply nobody left in the GOP with the balls to stand up to him.
MAGA will diminish but don’t exclude the likelihood of a newer brand of GOP fascism to emerge.
The best we can hope for is that conservatives pull themselves up by their bootstraps back to center under someone like Liz Cheney. Get politics back to some semblance of “normal”
If he starts his 2028 campaign soon enough he can try to claim (again) that prosecuting a presidential candidate would be an interference with democracy....

It would be nice if we could get to a point where I get back to the outcome being of little consequence in Ireland... and approach it as a superbowl of politics with interesting cariacatures on TV and film.

From the non voting vantage point of Ireland! Obviously it has impact for Americans and should be approached that way.

Does anyone know at what point the USSS spotted the shooter on the roof? Was he spotted on the roof before he shot? I understand there was a tree in the line of vision but has it been confirmed yet?
Or do we know why Trump was allowed on stage when there was a recognized threat in the vicinity?

I don't know that anyone official has given a detailed explanation for this but the fundamental problem seems to be

Investigators believe that could have led to a delay in the Secret Service sharpshooters' reactions because they had to first figure out whether the suspect was a threat, sources said.

Not trying to be confrontational here. But wasn't he filmed climbing along the roof by people outside as the rally had begun? So that would have been just a few minutes (2 to 3) before he started firing?
Maybe he was on the roof for a while (waiting for Trump to take the stage presumably)before he shimmied into a firing position?

I need to clarify this, as at the moment, I'm of the view that the roof "fell between the cracks" of having two different security forces, the USSS and the local police, and that the snipers directly behind Trump may not have known that he wasn't local police until he started firing….it's odd enough that there was enough known to pull Trump off the stage or not let him on!!!
