The E transit custom is coming soon, nowhere near 500km though. I think the claimed range is about 370km. I would take at least 100km off that though.
Really!? That much!
I think EV vans have great potential if they can get to a decent range.
Out of curiosity, how much would it cost to charge this van at home v public charging

There's buzz commercial but not large in the van context..
Found this ..
No, none available to my knowledge.
Ive used the electric transits in work. Lovely yokes to drive compared to the diesels. Auto everything in them which is great for spending hours in Dublin traffic. Range was 200kms on a good day. Can't see them getting near to 500km range in a big van anytime soon due to the 3.5 ton limit on the licence. Think the EV transit was over 2 ton unladen
It depends on your electricity unit rate. If that battery was empty on a night rate of .18c per kwh it would cost about 12 euro. Esb fast charger from empty to full would be about 40 euro. Basically multiply the unit rate by the battery capacity, as usual with these things it's not that simple as there are losses to account for when charging and discharging batteries. It does give a rough idea though.
Flogas have a 12c night rate atm I think.
I think the EU approved a weight increase for electric trucks, maybe there'll be one for vans as well
Is that for 8hrs? Pretty good if it is.
Yes that's what I thought especially for driver, the electric would be much more comfortable than diesel ( I'm a big diesel fan btw) and easier to drive. Also, I'm sure fuel costs would have which is a big consideration for businesses
I'd say give 3 years, there will probably be some new technology developed specifically for Vans.
Yes it's for 9 hours, you need a day/ night meter. The 3-4 hour smart EV plans while being considerably cheaper (6c) in my case just aren't long enough for something like a van.
Contract only to 31/3/25 though. Dual or just electricty availible. 12c night 25c day

bought an E-dispatch to replace a transit custom, covered 5000km in it now and it’s been great, regularly get 300km from a charge and that’s with a lot of motorway driving and sitting at 120/130kph and a much nicer drive to boot!
For comparison, I replaced a Transit Custom with a 2021 Citroen E-Dispatch. The transit would do 900kms on a tank which cost roughly €140
I charge the van during the day in work and my rate is 25c per KW, its a 75Kw battery so roughly €19 for 300kms so for the equivalent 900kms its €57, I could bring this cost down further by topping it up at home as I have cheaper night rates there but just dont bother to be honest as topping it up in work is more convenient.. I dont do any public charging so cant really comment on that but from what I see of others posting on here if i did need to top up on the road the cost would be a little higher than I was paying (maybe €10) for Diesel basing on 70c per kw but obviously I knew 300km range would suit my useage so having 5000km so far I have never public charged.
Service cost was also a big positive, services on the Transit where ranging from €450 to €600 based on what needed to be done, when I bought the citroen it needed its 2 year service. This cost €90 + vat and wont need another service for 2 years.
Road tax on the Transit €333 - Citroen €120
Is the Citroen taxed private? I thought all commercials in that weight category were €333.
So yeah funny story really… I have taxed dozens of vans over the years and the usual story is when you go to tax your van first time you need to get a goods declaration form signed by a Garda and then you get your €333 tax instead of it being rated from engine size so I was doing that and the form explicitly states you are using the vehicle only for business use and I thought hang on this could be good so I rang the Tax office and I said actually I am using it for both, I use it in the course of my business but also do the school run sometimes, and times when the wife is out in the car so i use the van on weekends etc so the vehicle is Dual use so they said thats fine but we will have to tax you at the private rate, so I say ok, theyre then saying but it will cost you! and I say yeah thats fine and then they check and low and behold they say "oh actually your vehicle is electric so the rate is cheaper, i guess you want to go ahead with that" 😁 .. I say I do and hey presto €120 tax and a trip to the garda station saved… they did point out that as its a private rate I cant park in a loading bay but that has no relevance to me.
That's very funny. I wonder though, how many traffic wardens or Gardai look at a van parked in a loading bay and think "I should check that van's tax disc to make sure it's commercial". I doubt that happens often.
No cvrt every year either!
as far as I’m aware it still has to be cvrtd as normal.
☺️☺️☺️ Nice one😊 doesn't happen too often.
Tax book should shed some light on it, if it's N1 it needs the cvrt.
If it's M1, comes under the NCT.
Service cost was also a big positive,
Also, beside the cost, there is less down time when the van is unavailable due to servicing. This can be massive cost for a company with a big fleet.
Can I ask what has tyre wear been like, given my experience in an EV car is that tyres wear about 20-25% faster due to regen braking. This is more than compensated by the fact after nearly 135,000km I still am original brake pads.
I cvrtd it before taxing but regardless of private or commercial tax it is still a commercial vehicle so will always be cvrtd as opposed to nct. At least that’s my take on it.
Van has 17k on it and I have done 5k of that, tyres still look brand new, no noticeable wear. Regen has to be switched on each time you drive so I only switch on in city driving really, forget about it a lot of the time.
Yep needs the cvrt, totally mistaken.
Most do and all should. Especially when it’s a jeep as the crew cabs can use loading bays even though they have 5 seats.
Regular occurrence here in Co. Wexford especially in Wexford town.
Is regenerative braking the same as one pedal driving? I thought EV tyres wore faster because of putting too much weight on the accelerator when moving from a standstill.
I didn't regen had much effect on tyres, I always thought it was down to the "low energy" tyres for EVs having less tread overall, so they wear out faster
