Group patrolling the town

A protest group against migrants say they will start patrolling the town because of, they claim, migrants following people.

Can anyone set up a patrol? . Isn't that the Gardai job? They don't say what they will do if they see people being followed.

I am curious, not seeking advice, no connection with the protesters

Why not just send the squad car out on its own, spare you the hassle of your late evening walk?

I suspect if some of these walks did happen, they'd have to send a car out to police the walk rather than support it.

This is precisely the point.

No police force can effectively ensure that the laws of the land are complied with, and investigate instances of alleged breaches, and detect & apprehend those suspected, and collect & present evidence to prosecutors, and attend court & furnish testimony to enable safe convictions

unless the public support that police force, and primary in that support is providing information.

No one wants a police state or a 'concerned citizens' state either. But the best way of achieving a fair & just system of crime detection & prevention is by assisting the lawfully constituted police to do their job, not to try & do it for them.

Not a day passes that AGS don't appeal for our help in keeping us safe.

If we fail to answer that appeal, any police force will become less caring, then lazy, then cynical, then corruptible.

PLenty of this nonsense been pushed on social media these days. Random stories of women/children etc been followed with nothing to provide any evidence

Latest was yesterday, some guy driving around Jobstown in his car, doing a video saying his daughter(not in video at all) was followed by 3 immigrants. She had to wait in a shop, no shop in video, and he was driving around Jobstown now to find the immigrants

It's all bulls**t made up by racist scumb*gs

Some people lap it up, other point out it is bullshit. Unfortuneatly the people lapping it up are the type to start beating up randomers for no reason

This patrol is just a group of scumbags going around beating up people who in reality will have done nothing wrong apart from been an immigratn and in wrong place at wrong time. Total scumbags

The town in question is a reasonably sized county town and as such it's not without it's faults like most towns of that size around the country. Yes there is on occasion some anti-social behaviour and the usual drug issues, but there are drug issues in every village and town in the country. The town has great employment and loads of amenities. It only takes one "concerned citizen" to post about an non issue and the usual suspects will clammer around and shake their fist at the clouds.

They're is already a walking club in the town, may they should just join that if their purpose it to go for a walk

Unchecked fear fanned by rampant disinformation can lead to some very dark places.

Vigilante groups just lead to mob rule where every suspect is guilty of whatever the worst crimes imaginable are in the mind of the most unhinged members of that mob.

How is it decided who is a migrant and who isn't?

If it's ethnicity, I know POC in their 30s who were born here, and plenty of caucasian europeans who've been living and working here nearly two decades.

And will this group also be monitoring our own homebred scumbags?

Bottom line - a vigilante group (and that's what it is) like this won't end well, and shouldn't be encouraged.
