Shane didn't give it enough welly on that birdie attempt putt on 10.
he’s right in this now. Finish on -4 and he could make a play off
That was 10
just plonked it in the rough on 11….again!
Nobody move or look at him, photograph, film or even breath or your going to get it
Bogey
Lawrence playing as if it's a practice day. Not a bit of nerves.
4 back now
F###### hell Shane.
Turned into a usual tournament for last few years. Gets into contention and pressure builds and drops back.
Having showed the composure after the double bogey on Friday, it was really disappointing how childishly he behaved on Saturday after 1 or 2 bad breaks. Beat himself in the 3rd round.
Hopefully he will learn from it. Chance to go for Gold shortly
It was never going to be this - he was too far back and brought too many low scoring lads back into the mix.
As it turns out - Shane might have had his work cut out to win no matter what.
ok thanks
Wind died down
what does he win for fourth?
He earns $611,000 for finishing 6th. Winner gets $3.1m.
Seems to be taken for granted a bit at times, or maybe doesn’t fit in with the identikit of what some golf types see as a top golfer. He’s a winner and doesn’t like losing and a few on here don’t really get that.
Deserves better than some of the comments from the so called golf “experts” on here.
A good result in the end another top 10 Major finish, and more experience to bank as well especially regarding that meltdown in the 3rd round. He’s a really solid professional is Shane. A Major winner and hopefully more to come.
Shane was in an inflated position after Fri round as half the field were totally disadvantaged the first 2 days.he was on the opposite side of that luck yesterday with knobs on when the course was barely playable on the difficult back nine while earlier starters were shooting well under par.The is no doubt that if he putted slightly better he would have been close to a 2nd Open win,but I suppose that is why he is not a top 10 player.
So mixed bag ,dont think he was beating Schauffle this week but with a bit of composure yesterday should have finished higher.
Anyone else feel the mask is slipping a bit with Lowry ??Barking at camera men , spectators all week , acting like a bit of a dick at times . Has previous form in this respect playing Ryder cup If he was British or some other nationality we’d be calling him out for this for sure !
A fair assessment
I really like him but he definitely gets a much easier ride from most irish golf fans Rory than Rory was ever afforded.
Up to 27th in the world and currently 10th in the FedEx. Having a very good season after last year's disappointing form.
He got to 8 under par early in his 3rd round.
The winning score was 9 under.
He's let a gigantic opportunity slip between his fingers, he was fully capable of winning the tournament had he not imploded in the 3rd round. He was fully capable of beating Schauffele he just didn't take advantage of the incredible position he was in.
Well you are saying he should have stayed at -8. All the leaders at the start of round 3 were over par on the back nine. He had an awful back none but he was gonna lose a couple even playing decent.
Yes he lost it in round 3 but that happens. He came back strong today after that nightmare and he deserves credit for that.
Hopefully he comes back next year and wins it again in Royal Portrush.
Shane may curse a bit more than Rory but he's never said he was British.
So hardly surprising Irish fans cut him more slack.
All he needed was to grind out a 2 or 3 over on his round on Saturday.Being able to put on a good bad round is what often wins championships.Don;t know whether everything was going too well the first couple of days (I started to think he was going to coast to victory like Harman last year and numerous others over the years) and then didn't anticipate ever being in trouble and froze and didn't know how to deal with it effectively.
Yes the “mask” is slipping with him and has done before and I like what I see. He’s a competitor, he doesn’t like losing and while that anger led to him losing a bit of composure in the 3rd round it’s also behind the competitive nature that means he’s often at his best in the big events with top 10 finishes. Some regular golf types mightn’t like that. To hell with them. He’s going to the Olympics for Ireland again, did well in that last time, hopefully another good performance to come. Again some of your regular golf types won’t be bothered by that. Like the Ryder Cup it’s not for money so they mightn’t rate it but it provides a great spectacle for the sport of golf.
Shouting at spectators and camera men is not "competitive nature". Banging clubs and stropping is not "competitive nature". That's absolute nonsense. You are confusing anger with competitiveness.
None of the players out there like losing, and many of them are known for being incredibly competitive personalities.
You'll never win anything in golf unless you can keep your head. He couldn't handle some of the bad shots he hit on Saturday and as a result ended up in a negative spiral where he followed up mistakes with more mistakes.
Yea the course was really hard but it was the same for almost everyone. He has to cope with it better.
he has won plenty in golf already. The 3rd round was a disaster for him and cost him a great opportunity to win a second Major title, opportunity lost no point dwelling on it or hand wringing about some people being upset because he shouted at a camera guy. Interview him in the Irish Examiner he’s turning his focus to the Olympics now.
The shouting at camera men and volunteers and banging clubs into the ground is part of the reason why the 3rd round was such a disaster for him.
He totally lost his head.
yeah, you already said that. I’m sure he’s aware of it. I’ve seen him bang his clubs and swear before, it’s not a new thing. He’s moving on to the next competition.
I'm a golf type ....for your information..golf types don't like lads losing head in a group ..because it is very selfish ..distracting and a pain in the hole to watch ...
did you watch his back nine on Sat,playing drivers into par 3s and almost not being able to reach the fairway is lottery golf and 3 of those par 4s were playing as par 5s ,so to suggest he could just shoot 2 or 3 over is a bit unfair,I know some did but it was described as golfing hell by commentators so his poor round has some mitigation.
you’re not comparing your round of golf with a few pals with the actual competitive sport.
