Claire Byrne is lucky the elections are on or she would have nothing to talk about later. Maura has stolen her perfume and fake tan segments.
Will be interesting to see what Callans attitude will be to the elections given the tonking the Shinner have taken.

Enjoyed that interview with Arthur TBH. I think Callan is developing into a very good interviewer, well informed and his questions seem to open up the interviewee.
I agree, I do think he's a good interviewer but I just wish he'd leave those attempts at impressions to his other show.

The female comedian was Bláithín de Burca. I cannot really comment on her stand up work. But she made a pretty good (if a largely uncritical) radio documentary about her granny, Mine Bean Ui Chribin. Which is worth a listen. I think she has also made some docs for the RTE player about modern sex in Ireland. I can't imagine her gran would be very happy about that.

God listening to Maura Derrane is like being stuck in a queue behind a woman with notions telling all her friends about her exciting life and beliefs where nobody else can get a word in edgeways. She seems like a nice lady but not a person fir radio I think.
Did anyone catch the name of the guy Maura just had on? Patrick something? He was talking about using nose breathing and not mouth breathing. I'd be interested in reading his book. TIA.
His name is Patrick McKeown. Booked up until 2026, be doing something right. Oliver definitely said signing off on Monday that he would be back on Thursday. But Maura said in her intro on Tuesday she was in for the rest of the week.
Is he still going on about this. Is this taken from another interview, or is it the same one from last month.
I like Ollie but if he’s still on with this it’s done cheek. He has a soft 1 hour per day show that has a fixed format requiring a limited amount of work. I’d shut up if I was him.

As you allude to he has a simple format, newspapers and a bit of banter up to 0920, then a soft interview with some wannabe, wrap up and fohherke off home.
The sad thing is that some dorks in Montrose might listen to him instead of telling him to sling his hook…
Would be interesting to know the full financial arrangements. Presumably a separate wedge for Callan’s Kicks and the radio show. Brendan Courtney hasn’t appeared in the slot for a long time, Maura Derrane now the regular deputy.

People find him funny, many people. get over it.
Which is ridiculous, both shows should be included for what he is being paid.
I remember when Callan was being interviewed after taking the role. He was playing down the salary and saying he had no option to negotiate. It is 150 k for less then five hours of airtime a week. For a show that requires very little prep.
Is Callans Kicks an external production or is it in house?

You need to learn what is a subjective opinion and what is an objective opinion.
You will never be able to objectively divine what people find funny and why. It's as time honoured a truism as any truism out there.
Mario Rosenstock doesn't do it for me…am I haunting threads giving my subjective opinion on him like a jilted teenage lover…no, I'm not. Callan doesn't do it for you but he does for many many people. Get over it, you'll be happier.
