A new thread for Summer general discussion.
Cloudy start in Greystones. 11.7c atm.
Some more nice sky (and sea) for yiz all!
Spinalonga (Crete) today. 32c
It was good to get out this morning.
Hill of Slane was too foggy but the mist and fog was light enough in other parts of Meath to allow the sun to appear.
If you rate Summers on heat alone so far this Summer in Sligo there's been about 5/44 days warmer than normal (see Met Eireann graph) so the rating of Summer 2024 is currently 11.36%
Last year by now was about 80% here based on heat.
Covid is doing it's rounds again. Mam tested positive for it and I most likely will too, a little cooler today but I'm glad I feel so warm today
Funnel cloud in Donegal this afternoon
Raining now in Dublin….
Ya we had it last week. Worse than 1st time.
Was freezing all the time but I think it was freezing anyways. Taste is gone to pot!
Its beautiful out west here in Castlebar with nearby Newport 23 degrees at 4pm. Wasnt expecting such a nice day
I’m in Dublin so obviously so is the rain. Asked around the office today about the lovely weekend just gone here. Perplexed looks all around . So must depend on what part of Dublin you were in.
Aw no don't say that, I'm a smoker as well so I'm gonna only stick to 3 or 4 a day for the next few days , hopefully the weather picks up too
Croagh Patrick view right now, with apologies to people in the south and east!!
I'm usually in Dublin so always feel smug when I'm down west and the weather is better here
Here's a twilight picture from pool last night.
I actually forgot that it stays brighter for longer here in Lanzorate compared to other parts of Europe in evening.
Ah stop Spinalonga I was there about 20 years ago on my first grown up holiday!
I had visions of sitting out on balcony in early evening and was disgusted when I found out it gets dark very early in Greece😁
Wow maybe my child of Prague did something after all!
Lovely warm evening in Galway.
Where is that pic @CruelSummer ? My guess is South Donegal. Looks class.
Family visiting family in Wicklow. Crap weather.
Friends on holidays in SSE. Lashing.
Still dry in Meath and warm too. 20⁰
Great pic Oscar. Enjoy the break Docarch. I managed 5 dry days in a row apart from Friday night's heavy drizzle .
that’s Keem Bay, Achill isn’t it? Nicest beach in Ireland imo. Im close to throwing in the towel for summer ‘24, the mid July pattern that determines the remainder of summer is not looking good, unlikely to be a washout like last year, just a continuation of the current mediocrity.
You're spot on. I should have recognised it. Tide is well out. One of the nicest beaches in the world. With a ghoulish past too. Thats the Menawn cliffs in the distance.
Was just watching something on that last night about the basking sharks.
What can I say about the "Sunny South East", it's been p*ssing most of the day. Had some rain around 10 and then dry till about midday when the heavens opened. Rain started coming up from the south and now it's decided to do an about turn and dump more rain on us.
It hit 25 degrees in parts of the west on the 9th of June last year. It wasn’t just the two brief periods you mentioned. 25 degrees is about as good as you can expect from the first half of June.
Yes it was Keem bay, much better management this year for access with council staff on site but you’ve to queue to ‘get in’ with the car now when all spots are taken. It was beautiful there today and so warm, forecast had said cloudy and 16c. Pot luck!
The average maximum temperature in Ireland for June is just over 17º.
Parts of the West hit over 20º for 24 days.
In other words for over three quarters of the month the max daily temp was over 3º above average. And on many days it was closer to 5º above average.
It was warm both at day and at night.
How is that not exceptional? And it's certainly more than 'just OK' as you originally said.
You picked a good time to head west.
I am still amazed that Mace Head has only received 6mm of rainfall half way through July. It was 111mm in total last July.
Belmullet is similar - 11mm thus far with a total of 148mm last year.
Beautiful day in Castlebar, warm and sunny for the most part.
Rain forecast for the evening but never arrived.
Beautiful day in Castlebar.
Rain forecast in the evening but never happened, warm and sunny.
Off topic but just said id say the local clean up group have the walk around the lake looking great :) Town looking well lately
Shannon the same, 11mm so far, 155mm in July last year.
The problem is the same location is averaging 4.44 hours of sunshine a day so far this month. That should be about 50% higher at this time of year.
Back from my run with the dogs. Warm and dry but with the constant continual thick cloud that doesn't break. 14C.
Leitrim
beautiful picture, very mystical. I used to live near Slane and was a regular visitor to the Hill of Tara before it got so busy. It was magical, so many similar views in the early morning and late evening, lovely memories.
