Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

Coming to a Googolplex near you…
Not sure if you are familiar with London, buts its a very big city and there is always 100's of high profile things going on at any time. If you have expectations that radio presenters should be around for all of these events then you have unrealistic expectations and standards.
BTW, "glasto" (or Glastonbury to everyone else) is 3 hours away from London, someone else mentioned the F1, that is 2.5hrs away from London so assume its not just London events he should hang around for and attend so make that probably 1,000 high profile things going on each week that he should be attending.
It really is an odd choice. I imagine it must be very difficult going from a big fish in a small pond. To just a new face with a radio show and no profile in the UK.
If you moved to UK to enhance your media career you would not eschew such UK institutions such as glasto and Wimbledon.
Obviously he's not interested in a UK audience.
I think you are being a little simplistic in your response. The point that they are trying to make is that the past two or three weeks in London have been a bit of a media frenzy. With big names showing up for glasto, tennis and the rowing. For a new presenter in London, it is the perfect time to network, raise their profile and get snap some big name guests for his radio show or podcast.
While I appreciate the point you are making about getting homesick and returning to the old sod. It is exceptionally poorly timed trip home for the Toyman.
No. I live in my ma's basement. I have a world class anorak collection as well as a collection of Star Trek micro machines. Sure why would I move out. Dinner of mashed spuds and meat on demand.
really….
someone moves abroad for work and chooses to use their few PTO days to come back and visit their family and friends and you call them a loser because they didnt go to Wimbledon? If he did go to Wimbledon you would accuse him of notions and abandoning Connemara.
Logically? According to you we all live with our moms.
..
Snap! I was thinking the exact same thing this morning…it's been a very busy two weeks for the London social scene. It seems anyone who's anyone in the UK media scene has been at one of the above, and that includes Glastonbury as well. So it was an odd time for someone who's trying to make their name in the media over there to leave London.
Still, "I'm on holiday back in Ireland" is the perfect excuse to anyone who might ask "Why didn't you go to Glastonbury/Henley/Wimbledon?", when the real answer might be "No one invited me."
Virgin radio in the U.K. has got rights to the Olympics too as part of News Group but unfortunately Tubridy won’t get any access as they don’t have Irish broadcast rights
Taking Wimbledon alone - we had international A List actors (Tom Cruise, Benedict Cumberbatch, Courtney Cox, Tom Hiddleston etc etc etc) along with actual Royalty !!
Where was Tubridy - this so called “man about town” and “huge star” ??
Nowhere to be seen.
The reason - Duck Egg Kelly wouldn’t shell out for the tickets - too pricey and with no good return. Good business acumen I guess…?
Wimbledon has been on for the past 2 weeks with the finals on Sat/Sun, the British GP & Henley regatta were on last week as well. All huge events as part of the London social season, manna from heaven for the movers and shakers and/or people trying to climb the ladder. As one of Ireland biggest exports* & foremost talents* you would think this would be prime ground for Tubsidy to mine, mingle with the stars, meet people, plug the show etc.
But no, he spends the week in connemara, far from any crowd, before departing to london in a huff. Have we not been told repeatedly about what a big name he is, what a fantastic opportunity it is, how its now 'senior hurling'?
Of course of course. How do you find time to explain to the boards posters how amazing your life is, with only 90mins a day online, a busy professional job on €150k+, and reading as much as ryan tubs???
Truly amazing dedication to the craft of wum. Moan about posters hating on tubs, but you can say anything you desire about Callan and many other people. Pot kettle, goose gander. Bluffer spoofer.
Ok @flyer_query - I’ll bite …
What “lies” have I told on this thread so?
It was in relation to the photos posted.
Haggard look to the man, a lot of baggage on his conscience.
A sense of sullen desperation in his eyes. He wasn’t a happy bunny on air this morning also - clearly heard in his dreary monotone.
Hilarious stuff. Poor aul @Beechwoodspark found out yet again to be a serial liar (its pretty much a daily occurrence that he slips up). He'll keep the head down for another few hours and hopes nobody notices and will be back later.
I'll do one better for you now, enjoy:
When he has to post his own "Welcome Back" says it all.
Yet here you post…
Like most of our posts here it could be filed under "Too much time on our hands".
Oooh well spotted. Can we file this under "Another Beechwoodspark anecdote"?
Beechwoodspark's report that the DLB was an unhappy bunny this morning was posted at 9.28, thirty two minutes before what is normally three hours of waffle started. Beechwoodspark must be a Tubridy insider.
I didn’t hear Tubridy this morning, but I accept the veracity of reports here. Maybe Tubbsy received some ad worse career news as he reported to work.
but he’s a multi millionaire who doesn’t have to worry about money so what’s the story?
It’s tough returning to reality after bliss. I find that too, especially after a Silversea expedition where everything is handed to you.
likewise… though our holiday home is on the Baltic coast of Lithuania…. In a beautiful little seaside resort with bags of history. Here’s the beach a short 5 minute walk from us…
Already spent about 6 weeks here this year and it hurts more and more to leave it to come back to sunny Ireland!!!
Tubbers could have really done with taking today off as well…. Given it’s the morning after the night before I can’t imagine his audience is up for the craic of hearing all about sipping half pints of Bud Light in some bar on the West of Ireland in the pi$$ing rain…
Pee Flynn is among us 🤣
58 years of hurt?
I wonder will the contrast between his holiday in Ireland and his return to the anonymity of London accelerate his return home? It must be hard to live with the contrast. People like him feed off being famous and being recognised.
Maybe he got blocked by his teenage swifty bracelet buddies.
