People are getting confused between bullseye and cross hairs. They are drastically different things.

I don't care for the man but his conduct wasn't too bad, all things considered. Imagine one's brain isn't the most rationale during an assassination attempt.

He remembered what he was told to do, drop. At no point would he have been told by the Secret Service to look for his shoes and get a photo OP.
Like every other protectee in that situation he should have been dragged to the car without delay.

People acts strangely in those kinds of situation. It was probably easier for the secret service to give him his shoes and then move him. Rather than drag a six foot plus, two hundred and something pound man who is looking for his Italian shoes the entire time.

It's only going to get worse. Deep fakes are currently being used mostly for 'humour' (Kane / Southgate) talking about Euro 24 for example. But 100% we're going to see/hear statements by political players that travel the world like wildfire creating havoc before an expert announces on a short BBC article that it was probably fake and they never made such a statement.
This will probably happen first, or most significantly at first, with people who have recently passed and who can no longer defend themselves.

Personally, I think he should not be president as you should have a president for all, even those that vote against them.
As for your blithe, "it didn't happen the first time". The man tried, and failed because of the checks and balances that the republicans are trying to rid of.

Mass shootings inspires copycats… it's not much a stretch to imagine something like this doing likewise, not necessarily just against Trump.

Maybe in that situation it would have been best practice to hunker down behind the podium for a few seconds anyway, let the snipers at the front of the stage get into proper position?
To me the safest thing would have been for them all to huddle there with the SS guys and gal on top of Trump until they were sure the shooter was 'neutralised'…
This makes no sense, There was literally only 2 roof tops, one had snipers to protect Trump on it, The other is where the shooter was

Meanwhile you'll struggle to deal with the fact that the shooter was a Republican. Hopefully more comes out about him as time goes on, cause I'd suspect strongly that he's closer to a QAnon type than anything else.
Listening to the audio on the news it looks like the SS kept him down and didnt move him until it was confirmed the shooter was dead. I assume this what they were trained to do in these scenarios.
Along side our often wonky need to see patterns and a need to feel part of communities imho a large part of the attraction for conspiracy stuff(with a sideorder of attraction for demagogues of all stripes)is the losing grip of old school religion and the need for religion had/still has with some. IE people need to feel someone, something is running the world, someone is in control. Better to believe a hidden cabal and agenda, even an evil one, is working the levers, than to face the conclusion that nobody and nothing actually is. That humanity is most of the time stumbling from one thing to another organically with no Great Plan in place and random events are just random and out of our control. That's a bigger fear than any Deep State/Big Pharma/Big Gov/Aliens/WEF/Reptilians.

there’s always imitators after major incidents, but usually not very successful. Eg, after Twin Towers there was an incident down in Florida where a nut job in a single engine aircraft decided to do an imitation and flew into a tower block, killing himself only.
