A new thread for Summer general discussion.
Cloudy start in Greystones. 11.7c atm.
Oh my God. That looks like summer !
April/May 2021 were the last time any of us between Ireland and the UK had 2 consecutive decently colder than average months.
I completely forgot about that cold Spring. After a very mild winter I now remember we got all our frosts during April and May that year with several nights sub zero well into May.
18 in the shade so it would feel quite hot in sunshine which is now at its strongest of course and especially when doing physical work. Pleased the west is getting a lovely summers day. Knife edge time as we approach mid month and St Swithins Day, if high pressure builds next week (as GFS is hinting) then I think we’ll have a fine August, if it’s unsettled next week we’re doomed as far as the rest of the summer is concerned.
That's class. I am across the lake from you I think. Is that Annaghdown or maybe Greenfields?
Was just out at walk at 5pm.
Honestly , I have had walks in November and January which have been as warm. There is a real bite to the wind.
A good Summers day in Mid Tipp, Similar to the pic Mars Bar posted for Galway above. The weather is on the up and I expect it to be good right up to Sunday. Sundays bad forecast will be hopefully downgraded nearer the time
Dried up early afternoon and brightening up now in Dublin. And the wind has picked up - just in time to ruin the dry weekend.I really am sick of the wind!
The crazy thing is Winter 2020-21 was actually near average but it felt pretty great compared to what we're used to. Purely going off memory, I think December was slightly milder than average, January was cold with severe frosts and a bit of snow, and February was mild. Each month had cold spells/snaps and I had lying snow each month that winter from four different minor events (including New Year's Eve), which is very rare for me, even if they were mostly dustings. I think I recall you posting about getting a dusting quite a few times throughout that winter too. Winter 2020-21 would be my ideal 'average winter' but unfortunately, has to go down as a fairly good one nowadays.
Yes it was Greenfields! First time out there and it's beautiful. Very familiar with Annaghdown Pier so it was nice to go somewhere different.
Lovely spot alright. The water is crystal clear today.
Out on the causeway? Know a few lads out that way. Upper Lough corrib is class on a fine day
The wind has been a real pain in the backside. My chestnut tree is already starting to brown because of the wind damage and the rest of the garden looks fairly shook!
Raining on and off and cloudy all day in Sligo. Strong wind too. 13c
GFS 12z doesn't exactly build my confidence that there is a way out of this mess any time soon. On and on and on and on and on it goes the north-westerlies with dartboard lows right out to the end of FI. There may be a transitional pet day here and there but anything remotely warm or settled looks incredibly flimsy.
Nice walk this evening by the coast, breezy, would need a light jacket but grand , 13.5C now down from a max of 17C.
Pic about 15mins ago
Thanks for update , but that's a depressing read ( not your fault obviously) but this endless bleak weather and no end in sight is awful
Heavy rain 5am
12⁰ Meath
Yesterday evening was autumn dark & cold. At least we are in for a dry few days. Weather is not at all good, but this is so much better than the depressing constant wet in July & August last year.
A Serbian friend told us yesterday it’s 40 degrees there and unbearable. I’ll take our cooler misery over that.
Genuinely looks like winter at Dublin Airport this morning. Horrible morning.
Yet another awful morning in Dublin. Feels like November/ December - no difference. Getting really tired of this now.
Holidays in early August can’t come soon enough.
dull and cloudy morning. Wind seems to have gone and it looks like it’ll be dry. Reading met Eireann this morning is pretty uninspiring though. The “good” spell looks like it’ll be mainly dry for a few days and temps about 16-18 degrees with a fair amount of cloud around and then unsettled again in to next week. The bar gets lower and lower with each passing day.
Chilly morning, with a brisk wind.
Very November like.
That is it exactly. Sunny day in mid West but a very cool breeze. No way comfortable
another yuck morning in Dublin, this is just the way of life now I guess, I’ve accepted it’s winter over here
actually I stand corrected on my earlier post of at least it’s dry. It’s raining now.
Sorry I couldn't resist 😂
It was actually lovely in Cork yesterday albeit very windy. Went for a walk in the evening and it was lovely and sunny and nice breeze.
No long hot dry spells are seen before August even if then. MT cranium.
The last nail in the coffin of summer 2024. Close the lid now, and lower it into the ground.
Diabolical.
Even my flowers look pi**ed off. Another grey day. 11c…sheesh
Saw that…be bizarre if the Autumn turns out to be warmer than the Summer but could easily happen at this stage
