again u come out with rubbish.building for a World Cup isn’t just about bringing players thru which Sa has down plenty.did u even watch the game and see how deferent sa played
I think you have wildly misunderstood where and who his point is aimed at.
South Africa unchanged, but Ireland have a lot of fitness doubts, so very open to change. Possibly something like this: Porter, Kelleher, Furlong, Beirne, Ryan, O'Mahony, Doris, Van der Flier, Murray, Crowley, Lowe, McCloskey, Ringrose, Nash, O'Brien. Bench: Herring, Healy, Bealham, McCarthy, Baird, Blade, Frawley, Larmour.
Law 9:14
ummm, ok.
I take it as a compliment that Rassie clearly believes that nothing but the absolute best of SA is enough to beat us.
just another series that Ireland can’t win!
If that is the team JOB would cover a multitude and Larmour FB - Would you not think he'll go Prendergast over Frawley?
I think you are gone off on a tangent. The point being made was fairly clear that the South African management are taking this game ultra-seriously, look at the number of caps, they have picked a team they would pick if they were playing in the World Cup final. There were posters complaining that Ireland were taking this too seriously and that we don't use these tests to blood new untested players, while the supposition was that South Africa would and that's why they win World Cups. It's fairly clear that these two matches are full-blooded encounters deserving both teams to select their best possible line-ups and the Irish coaches were correct to proceed that way. Blooding players in this series would have been silly IMO. Only if there is an injury and then the depth is tested, that's unavoidable, but not bringing in uncapped guys for the sake of it.
You can experiment without changing the personnel, which is something SA are particularly adept at.
We'll see, but I reckon we'll see a very different strategy this weekend.
I wouldn't because I'd want Frawley to cover 10/12/13/15, and Larmour to cover 11/13/14/15. Prendergast would only really cover 10, plus he's too inexperienced for this level.
Thats fair but nobody goves a card for that. There's a lot of vibes in reffing rugby
It's in the Laws, like all the other things that do get penalised.
Refs should implement the Laws as in Law 6:5(a). WR have allowed officials to ignore incidents that Refs deem 'not material'. The intended effect is to keep play moving. The actual effect (particularly in televised games) is to open the officials to criticism. This criticism brought about the introduction of TMOs. Now, TMOs are missing 'clear & obvious' incidents, perhaps because they all possess a 'Ref' mindset that says "It's ok if I miss stuff that's not 'material' as long I get the important stuff right". Yeah …
The South African team has Steenkamp (2 caps), Sacha (2 caps), and Moerat (6 caps). Even "Speedy" Grant Williams (8 caps) and Marco Van Standen (9 caps) aren't exactly seasoned Boks at this stage (mind I hugely rate those two and wouldn't call them inexperienced or green either).
There's still plenty of depth testing and "experimentation" there - while still fielding an experienced starting XV.
Hope JOB gets a look in this week, we missed his pace and creativity. Nash is a fine finisher, but lacks a bit of an x-factor. Would like to see something like this, but no chance Farrell drops POM
Porter, Kelleher, Furlong
Beirne, Ryan
Baird, VdF, Doris
Murray, Crowley
McCloskey, Ringrose
Lowe, JOB, Osborne
Herring, Healy, Bealham, McCarthy, Prendergast / Izzy, Blade, Frawley, Larmor
Edited for being dumb
Yeah I'm not neccesarily ALL for Prendergast right now. Just thinking Farrell might make another bold call for this Test esp with the exclusion of the Byrnes.
Frawley - I dont want to be too harsh on him. He's just not suited to FB. Losing his footing coming across the pitch for Kolbe try was just another example.
I like him as a 12, Ringrose can also cover there.
Anyway it'll be interesting to see if he'll blood more players and who's left standing after that 1st Test. Of course Erasmus went for exactly the same 23. The Springboks are so tough!
Conan isn’t there.
Word, had forgotten that lol. Prendergast or Izzy would be a solid option too
It'd be bloody fun though 😁
Roos may come in. Kwagga to the bench.
And Ireland had Osborne (new cap), Nash (6 caps), McCarthy (10 caps), Frawley (4 caps).
It's entirely comparable.
The Team has been announced
We've got 4 superb locks. Each have different facets that they excel in. McCarthy has power and strength, Beirnes has the engine and runs the best lines, Ryan is the better tackler and rucker and Henderson is probably just below their level.
For sure. You could argue that both teams could've done more experimentation - but I don't think you could say either team hasn't done anything experimental.
Team is named, completely unchanged.
I don't get the point here. Ryan has a lot of silverware, McCarthy is just starting his career. To use your point, if Kleyn/Beirne are as good as .... Munster would have silverware falling out of their trousers!
Leinster have got to 3 euro finals in a row with Ryan. Ireland have just won the 6nations with Ryan and McCarthy? It's beyond a doubt that both Ryan and McCarthy are fantastic players. Not winning silverware is not down to them.
Just saw that!
100%. Now he's easily our best second row since POC and one of our best ever.
I was one of these - I thought he'd end up at 6.
Ah well, nobody's perfect.
A lot of people did…
I'd definitely keep beirne. This thought experiment is unfair to mccarthy because his skillset is way more unusual in ireland than south africa. A part of me wonders if he would be an SA 8. Because he's less unique there he'd need to tidy up his game though. Ryan at this stage in his career is similar level to Jean Kleyn. So, it would depend on who they preferred.
