Should be posted on publicjobs.ie in the morning. Been a CO now for a year…..hopefully I’ll do well (flunked the interview two years back).
Any tips and tricks and discussion welcome!

For reasonable accommodation, it seems to be. For a proper disability like someone who is deaf or blind or in a wheelchair. I suffer with a bad back and just require a proper back support chair. Should I mention it in the reasonable accommodation? I didn't when going for CO but once I was in I asked for a chair and got it. Anyone have similar issue?
Are you supposed to go right back to leaving cert in employment/ed history, I have 20 years of education and employment done, does anyone know if this will suffice?
You Have to submit a medical or psychological report with your application for reasonable accomodations. And when you say proper disability as opposed to?
when your being onboarded - your given a health and character form and you just write it on the form any health issues
Sorry I didn't mean for that to sound bad. Proper I meant, an obvious serious disability. I don't feel my bad issue warrants being classes as a disability but if I require a particular chair, then maybe in their eyes it is.
Great thank you.
Yes leaving cert seems to be important. I don't understand it. People I know have had 20+ years of work experience in good jobs but they were still asked to supply their leaving cert results. Seems silly to me.
You’re a star!! Thank you 😁
Are the aptitude tests online more difficult than the ones in real life? I've done the practice tests and performed very badly on them. I craped a bare pass on verbal and mathematical reasoning and failed the categorising information and error checking ones. I tried the error checking one a few times with only an incremental increase in the score. I have a PhD (in arts and humanities) and an MSc but have always done terribly on aptitude tests. Are the actual tests like these and does it require a more rational, facts and figures type mind to pass them?
HI l have two questions.
Does characters mean words and does anyone have any recommendations for assessments tests training and practice.
Advice must appreciated.
I only put forward my masters degree and bachelors for education….
Should I be posting leaving cert too?
I would advise putting your leaving cert down too considering it is a requirement just to be on the safe side
I'm fecked if people with PHD's, Masters and Bachelors are going for this comp 🙈😂
Would anyone know about reasonable accommodation. Would needing time off for medical appointments for a chronic condition on an ongoing basis fall under this?
Currently serving c/o
Qualifications mean diddly squat with these competitions. Its how good you are at aptitude tests and being able to talk well and have good examples at the interview stage. Having qualifications does not influence the decisions made by the panel. I was an interviewer previously for these positions. You can use examples from undertaking and completing courses for the interview i.e. planning and organising, time management, delivery of results, teamwork for group assignments etc.
Thanks, I have 20 years of experience in a few different fields including management so I'm hoping I do well in that regard.
I would not worry. Actual working experience counts for so much more in interview.
Agree. Qualifications are only helpful to make you eligible for certain roles i.e. AOs need a degree. I'm all for continued learning and education however.
You'll be grand, I got in as EO with a leaving cert and 6 months of admin work experience lol.
Now I feel better lol
TBF I scraped my way in but in the end what matters is passing the interview and that doesn't mean you need to do anything perfect.
I went on a few rambles throughout mine and had to be brought back on track by the interviewers.
My partner is an EO so she said she'll help with the prep and notes.
Don't think regular time off counts as a reasonable accommodation tbh, reasonable accommodations are considered to be changes to working methods to enable you to reach your potential and do your job.
With that being said, I became unwell after joining civil service (eo) in January and having appointments off hasn't been an issue. I've been encouraged to use sick or medical leave days, but have been using Flexi or hols because I'm on probation. But zero issue. I've got at least 3-4 appointments in the next two months already approved.
For all of us or just yourself?
Hi, I queried this today with the large volume recruitment email. Was advised that candidates have a maximum of 10 boxes each for employment and education and that candidates could decide what to put on form.
Might be worth querying this for own situation for clarification. I've provided 20 years so am happy with that.
I'll add what I can :)
Thanks very much. I'll address it at a later time when appropriate so.
😂Nice one, we're all getting EO grinds!
Hi Sorry to jump in on this but I have been trying to find out where I would stand if I took an EO position what would happen pay wise, I'm currently a grade 5 in Public sector so its not equivalent of EO would I be starting on 1st entry of the pay scale do you think - have applied but will need to decide if its worth the drop if starting from 1st point.
