Clare GAA Discussion part 2
No idea but he's said on previous threads he's from up the country somewhere, not a traditional hurling county
i was sure he was. where's he from then?
People do realise TGM is not actually a Corkman, right?
you're up for an all-star in trolling and WUMing
Cork players have all ireland medals just not senior ones! If you want to judge Cork off the game this year fair enough but much stronger now in my view and the sending off was crucial too. Clare should have won by more than 2 that day but some late goals kept it close. Beating Limerick twice since who are the benchmark is proof of the improvement in Cork.If Limerick were playing Clare they would be quite rightly expected to win.
Clare have several players with All-Ireland medals, while Cork obviously have none.
Clare beat Cork already this year in both league and championship.
Is it 4 Clare wins in last 5 championship meetings ?
Maybe tradition will be a factor here 😜
Tradition won't win you the game of course. At top level sport mentality is everything and believing you can win is half the battle or maybe even more. Clare had a much better team in 2013 than Cork and but for a referee playing on from a puckout would have lost it.
As for this final Cork are a much stronger team than when we last played Clare especially defensively. Of course the sending off had a big impact on that game too. Cork will get goal chances and the winning of the game might hinge on whether they take them or not. Curtailing O'Donnell will be crucial too.
Look worry about your own team and we can worry about ours.
We ll see on the 21st. All Cork have to warm yerselves is ancient history. The champagne 🍾 might be more 19 euro cave than Dom Perignon. It could be 2013 all over again. As the great Dublin manager Heffernan always said about Cork..'Their Hubris gets them in all sorts of needless trouble'. Shur by the time the 21st comes around Cork will be challenging Limerick and Kilkenny as the best team of all time. The only thing missing will be the titles
Well in fairness, ye have offered both cheeks up to Cork for most of hurlings history. Why change the habits of a lifetime? The champagne hurlers are coming!
Im a Clare man . And I do support the only decent democratic country in the middle east, proudly.
In case you didn't realise this is a Clare hurling thread, nothing to do with Tipperary or Limerick. It was boring enough hearing about Limerick for the last few years but now that they're back being losers give it a rest ffs. Up the Banner!
Your Israeli flag says everything that needs to be said about you.
I think the tradition was based on the available talent. Look at what Cork and Tipp achieved from a natural playing base. It was only in the early eighties that Clare followed Offaly in many ways in setting up underage development. That has changed the talent levels in each county but requires constant work. UL was online today saying they had 35 past or present students involved over the weekend. Fitzgibbon is the development for players as much as U20's. Very few intercounty hurlers have not been to college at some level and nearly all have played Fitz. Rather than looking at tradition, look at who is doing the better playing development at the moment. Cork, Clare, Tipp and Limerick..
Because Tipperarys masters Limerick don't play proper hurling is it ? That Limerick team are amazing and have given the whole hurling world a boost with their class and supporters. If Tipperary were anywhere near a 5 in a row the rest of Ireland would have to emigrate such would be nuclear level of self regard coming out of the Premier.
Hard to see this Cork team not doing the 5 in a row isn't it 'The Golden Miler'. Hoggie will still only be 42 and as he says himself 'hitting all the markers on the GPS'. Harnedy was class and again he'll only be in his early 40s...a young whipper Snapper. Everything is turning in Corks favour ...the pace, verve and panache is unstoppable . We in Clare recognise all that but ye need someone to spank and Clare will offer up both cheeks on the 21st. Let me be the first to congratulate you on your inevitable victory Sir.
Tradition has to be respected both as a motivating factor for the county rich in Tradition and those less so. That being said I expect Clare to win the all Ireland as they have been a more consistent team all year. Either way looking forward to a proper hurling final.
Tradition is a rubbish argument. I remember talking to someone before last years football final, Kerry vs Dublin and he was on about how it’s hard beat Kerry in a final and tradition. Then I pointed out that Dublin had players going for their 9 All Ireland medal and he then realised his tradition argument was rubbish.
Sure in the last 30 years, Cork have won 3 All Irelands and Clare have won 3 All Irelands. You have to go in the here and now and what you see in front of you. Clare have beaten Cork the last 3 times the teams have met in championship.
But you said earlier on the Limerick hurling thread that even if Clare win the all Ireland they're still not as good as Cork because Cork beat Limerick twice this year!
Lohans shift in using subs is more likely a result of the Munster final post match discussions. Way too slow to use the options that day, and way to slow to make moves on the field. We are still to slow.
You can't drop Reidy, he's having a great year. Can't see them dropping Malone either.
I'd expect to see the same starting 15 in the final
But having a strong bench will give them serious confidence when game hits the last 20 mins. It's great that Lohan is starting to use the subs a bit earlier these days too, it held us back a bit in his first few years. Maybe the influence of the new backroom team.
indeed
As a man that clearly loves history/tradition, what is the record between Clare and Cork meetings in senior men hurling allireland finals.....
Now of course Cork may win, but history would suggest it will be an uphill battle!
what ever cork won in the 1980s or whenever means nothing to us ,because we never had a huge tradition it means nothing to us , its all on the day as far as we are concerned and let the best team win after that
I accept history means nothing in terms of who'll win on the day, but surely it does show us a few things. That certain teams will win more often than not, giving them an advantage and putting the odds in their favour, for when the match happens? Cork had alot of internal problems, and really only became a competitive force again in 2017, 2013 a bit of an indian summer for them. They've struggled with the Limerick game, but got closer over the years. So as a Clare fan, now that they are back to near their best, what is it that they do that means they win more often than not in these situations? What is it, that when they're playing well, means Clare have traditionally struggled against them so badly through-out history?
As you say, this means nothing to an extent, but hurling goes in cycles and Cork are due one. And their trajectory would suggest they're heading there, bouyant and full of belief. So from a view, of putting odds in favour of one team, as to who'll have an advantage on the day, a betting man would be looking at Cork. History would suggest, more often than not, Cork will beat Clare. And for Clare to beat them in two finals in a row, would be very much odds against. Now of course Clare may win, but history would suggest it will be an uphill battle!
nethir am i, we dont see cork in the same light as you do up here
your missing the point , tradition means nothing , ye could have beaten the harlem globe trotters today and we wouldn't have cared , what has happened up to now means nothing do it when it matters or dont do it at all, thats what we have to do the next day , same for cork
Cork were brutal that year. Tradition nearly did get them over the line, and it certainly raised them to greater heights. Clare, a far better team to Cork that year, nearly did collapse under the pressure of getting over the line v Cork on such a big stage.
The game should never have been close. But this is actually a good Cork team this time around.
And history tends to have trends that repeat!
Honestly not trying to wind up. Just saying it how I see it
best of luck i hope it works out for you …….
