Edit: looking at it again it was very last minute like when a lights green and you go through as it turns yellow on the roads.
Notice both Verstappen and Magnussen went off at the same corner and realised they couldn't recover in time before the gravel, accepted it and drove through the gravel to keep going. Perez panicked, overcorrected and spun. Just seems to be lacking certain skills as a driver.
Tough call alright.
