Clare GAA Discussion part 2
I think Tony is finding it hard to get back to the tempo of it since coming back from his injury, he doesn't seem to have the same pace to get onto loose ball or break tackles.
Only reason not to star taylor is if medical team deem it a high risk or lohan wants option to be able to bring him on when game is more open with legs tired. Personally unless taylor is deemed able to play 60mins I'd stick with bringing him on like yesterday.
Persume clare wore blue as it was what they wore when beat kk earlier in year and makes sense that removes any slight hesitation where players might mistake a yellow jersey in corner of eye etc.
Yeah I was surprised that Malone was taking off thought he was doing quite well and winning a lot of dirty ball and had quite a good first half. I seen player ratings in one of the papers and they gave Malone a 5 which was very harsh.
Like you said maybe it was a pre-planned move. I know alright some managers do that they have pre-planned substitutes no matter how good or bad a player is playing.
Fitzgerald drifts in and out of games and often can be on the periphery of the game and all of a sudden can thrown over 2 or 3 points in about a 5 minute spell, Kelly can do something similar as well.
I know it might be a big call but I personally feel Taylor has to start the All Ireland final, whoever it is that is gonna be dropped, but you saw the difference when he came on. Himself and Malone linked up well the last few years in midfield and he was a big loss all year.
would like to see them play in the all blue strip more often, has been lucky for them, KK must be sick of it as we have beaten them 3 times this year in this alternative strip
I'd like to know the answer to that.
We played Wexford early in the year and yet they never changed jerseys then. Have Kilkenny an away jersey? Apparently not.
Maybe that's why they were so bad in the first half - took them time to get used to the jerseys. 😎
2 points from play were vital, I don't know why anyone would have anything bad to say about him personally as someone said earlier; no one has any call to do that. The goal miss was killer as the shot was put in the perfect saving spot for a goalie. O'Donnell in that situation would either bounce or hit the roof of the net.
Kelly was a spectator for the first half. His speed is seriously curtailed. He had options to break through but went sideways for the point. He's struggling to adapt his game to his limits, but we can't afford to do without him. What concerns me was David Fitz was on a bad day yesterday, the game passed him by and he was right in front of Lohan and the selectors. They didn't see. Yes he got two points, but both were handoffs rather than winning the ball. I'd hope a bad day out for him will get his head back in order (a bit like McCarty)
Conlon slowing up at centre back, and lucky to some extent TJ Reid was on the field. He still does the great thing well after a nervous start. We had a Centre back playing a holding role, two midfields not taking the game forward, and Fitz not forcing the wing back to follow. That's where Limerick win games.
The only issue with Quilligan is there is always 1 mistake in a match with him. It should have cost us yesterday but didn't 6 points down after 50 minutes due to a mistake was just about recoverable.
All the subs made a difference but it was nearly too late when the changes were made. I think Lohan had decided Taylor was coming on for Malone with 20 to go, but it was Fitz that was out of sorts.
KK didn't score for the last 17 minute despite perhaps 7 opportunities. That won't happen again. The final will be a different game anyway, so lets not get too hung up on that. I hope the weight of the 5 in a row weighs on Limerick. If it's Cork then it's going to be a shoot out.
I wonder why they wore the blue jerseys. Is that management’s call ?
Scored 2 points from play today, which is not a bad return. Thought he played very well from general play in the first half, but wasn’t really in it as much in the second half. To be honest the darling of Clare hurling in Tony Kelly done very little from general play, I know he scored 3 points but he was anonymous for most of the game.
I suppose I’m biased when it comes to Aidan McCarthy, considering I know him fairly well. He has averaged about 2 points from play in most games which I think is a fairly good return. Yeah he missed a great goal chance but Eoin Murphy is a brilliant keeper so you have to take that into consideration.
Sure Kilkenny missed 3 goal chances in the first half, Quilligan made some brilliant saves, again another player that was criticised but came up with the goods today.
It was great to see the travelling support again, I thought it might dwindle with it being a sat game and all the disappointment over the last few years but on the road up you could see the colours on the move. End of the first half it just felt like dejavu but second half was prob out best performance this year. Hogan showed great maturity to win the battle with Cody by playing the game in front of him. Delighted for him. I'll have to watch it back on the player this morning to get a real sense of how it went.
Up the banner and down the pints !! we will talk to ye tomorrow lads……..
Nailed his frees today, and got some really hard ones, but still hit the ball at the goalie, a goal scorer puts it high or low. Same as the Munster final when he gave Quaid a chance. We were goosed without his accuracy today but from play? Still questionable but with almost 100% accuracy, he's a certainty for two weeks time.
We have bigger problems.
Ah yeah there was a lot of **** being wrote on here and other places about him by people that don’t have a clue. He has scored 3-63 (3-12 from play) between the league final and championship. That’s some scoring return no matter what way you look at it. I don’t think he is a natural inside forward, his best position is probably further out the field, he was an All star minor wing back, which shows his versatility. But he has done a fairly effective job and apart from the Munster final he has been deadly accurate from frees.
Himself and Reidy kept the scoreboard ticking with two points each from play in first when things weren't going well.
First championship win in Croker since 2013 and first championship win against Kilkenny since 1997, enjoyed that win. Honestly thought Clare were gone. My late father was a Clare man who died days after the corresponding game between the two sides in 2022, so that win meant a lot today. Hon the Banner.
Great win. A monkey off their back to win in Croker and beat kilkenny. They'll need all the psychological help they can get to beat (probably) Limerick.
Taylor made the difference coming on. But huge praise has to go the the whole defensive unit in the second half. Twas night and day from the first half whatever was said in the dressing room. Conlon in the 1st half was as poor as he's ever been, gave away numerous balls with wayward passes. Second half he was solid. Hogan, Cleary, Leen were excellent. To hold kk scoreless for 16 or 17 minutes is a big achievement.
The wind looked like it played a big part too, kk struggled with wides and their long passing accuracy into their forwards in the 2nd half.
If they have a first half like that in the final it'll be game over whether it's against cork or limerick, but especially if it's limerick.
McCarthy proving the doubters wrong. A brilliantly talented hurler, and also an absolute gent off the field. Has gone through a rough period especially with injuries, had a horrendous workplace accident that took him a long time to come back from, so only delighted for the man and his family.
Congratulations.
thought Clare were goosed
Still don’t fully believe in them but some job getting over the line today
Kilkenny’s poor bench the difference maker
well done Clare , I thought yere Goose was cooked at halftime. Think we(Limerick) will beat Cork, it will be some atmosphere for the AIF
MaCarthy not adding enough at the moment. Start Shanaher. Bring on Galvin, he has fight in him. If Taylor is good enough to make the panel, then throw him in there later in the game. To win means taking risks.
At some point, Hogan will also have to go to wing back.
the problem is that would be the smartest thing to do , lohan usually hasn't done the smartest thing in some of these big games , if taylor features i hope its because we are 5 points up and liam gordon has the whistle in his mouth
the problem is , he or the people running it cant be held accountable because thy are not using there own name , i was talking to a lad form a club in town last year that was convinced that romer was a source to the page , i only taught of it the other day when i say the post about him , and how upset the lads on the clare times were
they were banned since september and only back in action this week , its amazing how many people fall for it though
That Clare Times page is a disgrace, when I 1st became aware of it I honestly taught it was satire like Waterford Whispers, between that and the tweets from Derrick Lynch ye have a few loose cannons out there in the media.
mcinerney would be dropped ahead of ryan surely ,
he got the brunt of lohans rage in front of a whole host of reporters last year so i am sure he is only happy to run a story like this , especially it having no real consequence on the team , its not like him to stir things up though
the clare times facebook page is making a huge thing about it though which is no surprise
if it is true it is no surprise , romer is a loose cannon , its widely believed has been a source in the past for the clare times facebook page , which i wouldn't be surprised to hear if it were true
personally i never even knew o'neill had joined up the backroom team , its not something that's going to divide the team , mcmahon and lohan dont get on so he was probably only happy to run the story
….
I hope you're right and I'm sitting in Croke Park at 1800hrs with egg on my face and Clare in the All Ireland final. However if we do the same thing 3 years in a row and lose again like we did to limerick in Munster then management will have many questions to answer and 2 will be 'why was diarmuid Ryan and Malone undroppable'. Ryan is a poor poor marker but an excellent shot taker when on form. He's nit on form. Malone hasn't been on form in 2 years. We are carrying both at the moment. Besides all that we need subs in from minute 45 not 55. We've a huge challenge ahead but Kilkenny aren't the team Limerick are and we are well capable of beating them. Up The Banner
No way will we do anything drastic like drop Ryan or Malone
We’d only confuse ourselves more than the opposition. They don’t deserve to be dropped anyways.
