Here we go again. Hopefully we'll see some great matches over the next fortnight.
going the distance on centre court.
Jaysus, he cut that a bit fine, even by the standard I was expecting 😳
Badosa won and she looked very relieved.
Rain might be in for the rest of the evening. Good thing they put roofs on centre and No1 court.
a tightrope was the phrase used.
I expect Alcaraz to cruise home from here. Tiafoe looks exhausted.
The opening game to Tiafoe in the fifth set.
Tiafoe is a big unit to be hoofing it around for 5 sets..... but he doesn't have the look of quitting about him just yet....
But for fitness, and ability to deal with the pressure, my money is on Alcaraz all day long.
Well foreseen..... I didn't expect him to cave that quickly or badly.
I suppose getting so close and having it snatched from you must be so very deflating.
But Alcaraz has upped his game considerably (in the nick of time!).
called it right.
Is raducanu up next on centre court ?
Fair play Alcaraz.
I like Tiafoe but prefer Alcaraz. Also kinda glad to see Tiafoe lose after the "losing to clowns" comment he made recently, can't be doing that.
Expecting Raducanu to win this one. Sakkari should be the favourite, but she always tries her best to lose winnable matches and I expect that to continue.
ash Barry is great on commentary.
Raducanu is looking good so far in the match.
Chances of a double break missed for her, but yeah playing well
And she was laughing at it.
The second point in the 4th set tiebreakert seemed to really demoralise him. As you say, he's a big size for a tennis player and that must be tough in a 5th set.
Raducanu is almost unrecognisable from a couple of years ago!
5-2 raducanu.
Maybe the right attitude! Broke her again anyway 5-2 and serving for the set, playing some lovely stuff.
Big time, I am happy for her the British press love to rip into her. Her growth was badly affected by injuries, great to see her back and fit
It’s amazing what being 100 % healthy does for you.
I mentioned it here but I did worry that she might be another Laura robson. Talented player but plagued with injuries.
Plus, I suspect, being a few years older, and maybe having gone through all that abusive bullshit. It's clearly made her a hugely stronger personality.
Here's hoping it stays that way. I love watching her.
first set raducanu.
Poor Laura Robson bags of talent she could never really get fit for such long periods, retiring at 28 very tough.
First set 6-2 Raducanu (felt bit tighter than that scoreline Sakkari had same number of break points opportunities)
Bloody hell, the Gauff/Kartal match didn't last long!! Even allowing for a very competitive first set.
Is Sakkari doing an Alcaraz on it, and just moving up a great or three as necessary???
She would want to do it quick...now down a break in the second...
Oh, my internet feed is obviously lagging behind by a few minutes!
