Wouldn't you know shes a former Irish times journalist as well, the type of individual who goes to live in France because they think it makes them culturally superior.
“There’s no point putting ourselves in their shoes”
I think there is. Let’s leave it at that
Nobody forced them to attempt to illegally migrate to another country. They were obviously coming from a safe country, hence the need to lie.
They were likely well aware of the need to lie when they started their illegal endeavours.
There's no point in putting ourselves in their shoes. There's the law and that's that. They broke it and should have been sent back on their way home after recovering their health.
I am saying (repeating) that I don’t like open borders but if you’re judging individuals for that type of a lie, where telling the truth will leave you at the mercy of African asylum camps as opposed to European life then I think you live in a massive western bubble.
I think if you were African traveling through the desert you’d tell the same lies and forsake your morals.
but you’re welcome to believe that you wouldn’t.
I'd like to see him get someone else on to discuss France, the woman he has on now comes across very arrogant and living in a bubble.
No it hasn't. We're talking respectfully about the podcast and things related to it.
This thread has gone way off topic.
So then they can all say I lied because life and death?
How can you believe anything they said if they're lying from day one. I mean it's a bloody tearjerker worthy of Spielberg isn't it.
Edit: you clearly are a fan of open borders if you think they should be legally granted asylum and allowed to stay in the EU. (Our morals are already included in our laws by how we write them and what we think is right and wrong, so either you agree with the law or you don't)
if it’s a life or death decision of course it is. I don’t like open borders but judging people for making a life or death decision to lie or tell the truth is western moral superiority gone mad.
think about it
Breaking the law is ok with you?
It just shows how easy it is to lie and get away with it,why they're all destroying their documents etc. Europe is a soft touch.
It's not fair to genuine cases who will no doubt be thrown in with all these criminals.
let’s hope you aren’t ever trying to get asylum after walking through a desert. But even if it does happen, I’m sure your mahogany like western scruples will ensure you won’t utter a single fib.
The lad who was good at football wasn’t even born at this stage by the way.
The podcast previewing the Spain Germany game was a bit strange. The backstory of Williams coming to Spain was interesting but I couldn't help notice that a presumably Spanish lawyer advised his family to lie about what country they were coming from in order to be granted asylum. But he's good at football so I guess it's ok to be a fraud.
he was anti divorce when the referendum was held and I guess pro life (he told waters he was). I don’t know what I’d describe him as ….” Wannabe cool dad” in his opinions
He's definetly a strong liberal left but to say he's truly woke, I'm not so sure. What I do know is the lack of balance on his podcast is starting to become a bit boring. The same guests on each week, the same viewpoints. The guests he has on are excellent and informed but always coming from the same angle. If it was too right leaning, it'd be boring aswell.
He's done some great podcasts in the past, biographical interviews with former sports players, podcasts on crime in Ireland, podcasts on the Ukraine & russian war to name a few. Its dying off, its clear he's become a bit distracted by his book.
"it is the case is it not that I am woke".... Absolute yawnfest here folks and that's from a contributor who is known not to be partisan.
I thought it ironic that in his recent podcast about the president debate, he didn't mention his own slow down with age.
Culture war warrior alert!
Anti wokeness is just as boring as actual wokeness.
Woke me hole.
And that's my very considered opinion.
He's woke, he's not woke, he's a ham…okkkayy.
FIFA has always been rotten with corruption, Qatar and Russia both have poor human rights pedigree but the performative nature of Dunphy on the subject is classic woke
He's not a woke hypocrite like Gary Lineker or anything but he's a ham
Well you learn something new everyday but that's essentially what it is, and the subject themselves don't really matter to either side of the argument.
Fwiw I wouldn't describe Dunphy as woke. I don't think he soapboxes or anything like that. I think he is genuinely a bleeding heart and that's why I can listen to him while I can't stand a lot of people 'performing' similar views.
I've never heard woke being defined as using events to show how nice someone is. Down with that sort of thing.
I think the wokeness part is not about the actual subject of being gay. It is the way they use certain high profile events to create attention for themselves to show what nice guys they are.
Gay people having rights is woke now?
Was that on the late late show? In that interview he spoke with emotion about how a UK footballer who came out as gay committed suicide due to homophobia. He also criticised the decision to have the world cup in a country where it is illegal to be gay with the possibility of having to serve up to 3 years in prison. Those are the words of a liberal person, I don't see what's woke about that view at all.
He was sh1tting on about how gays have no rights in Qatar during the last world cup while a guest on some current affairs show , complete with his standard teary delivery
There's one
You're saying he is woke and I asked for an example of this and you can't/won't provide one? Enough said.
Do your own work, not my problem if you can't identify the guys opinions
What you've said there isn't much more than pretentious word salad. I'd rather a specific reference I could listen to.
Please, he's always engaging in performative empathy about any progressive list criteria you can name
Can you give examples of how Eamon is woke? I never thought of him in that way.
