maybe there is, but he’s 82. You just get too old for it.
I don't think John would know many of the players apart from the English team really.
Is John still writing his weekly piece for the Herald? Maybe he is more suited to newspaper columns at this stage - more time to prepare and avoids the live-on-air aspect. Having said that not getting to hear his voice on radio/podcasts anymore would be quite sad.
maybe he should just retire. He’s had a great innings and respect also to broadcasters for giving him a voice for so long but he’s not far off 84. If any or all of us live that long our faculties will be fading. It’s the sad fade out.
It's been a fantastic career alright. Player, manager, pundit and he performed all three roles to a fine standard - which is an impressive achievement when you think of it.
I heard John on newstalk a few weeks ago. He was struggling badly. I felt sorry for him and presenter.
Dunphy has always been safely establishment posing as a rebel
The establishment in Ireland is unequivocally woke so Eamo is too
Can you give examples of how Eamon is woke? I never thought of him in that way.
Please, he's always engaging in performative empathy about any progressive list criteria you can name
What you've said there isn't much more than pretentious word salad. I'd rather a specific reference I could listen to.
Do your own work, not my problem if you can't identify the guys opinions
You're saying he is woke and I asked for an example of this and you can't/won't provide one? Enough said.
He was sh1tting on about how gays have no rights in Qatar during the last world cup while a guest on some current affairs show , complete with his standard teary delivery
There's one
Was that on the late late show? In that interview he spoke with emotion about how a UK footballer who came out as gay committed suicide due to homophobia. He also criticised the decision to have the world cup in a country where it is illegal to be gay with the possibility of having to serve up to 3 years in prison. Those are the words of a liberal person, I don't see what's woke about that view at all.
Gay people having rights is woke now?
I think the wokeness part is not about the actual subject of being gay. It is the way they use certain high profile events to create attention for themselves to show what nice guys they are.
I've never heard woke being defined as using events to show how nice someone is. Down with that sort of thing.
Well you learn something new everyday but that's essentially what it is, and the subject themselves don't really matter to either side of the argument.
Fwiw I wouldn't describe Dunphy as woke. I don't think he soapboxes or anything like that. I think he is genuinely a bleeding heart and that's why I can listen to him while I can't stand a lot of people 'performing' similar views.
FIFA has always been rotten with corruption, Qatar and Russia both have poor human rights pedigree but the performative nature of Dunphy on the subject is classic woke
He's not a woke hypocrite like Gary Lineker or anything but he's a ham
He's woke, he's not woke, he's a ham…okkkayy.
Culture war warrior alert!
Anti wokeness is just as boring as actual wokeness.
Woke me hole.
And that's my very considered opinion.
I thought it ironic that in his recent podcast about the president debate, he didn't mention his own slow down with age.
"it is the case is it not that I am woke".... Absolute yawnfest here folks and that's from a contributor who is known not to be partisan.
He's definetly a strong liberal left but to say he's truly woke, I'm not so sure. What I do know is the lack of balance on his podcast is starting to become a bit boring. The same guests on each week, the same viewpoints. The guests he has on are excellent and informed but always coming from the same angle. If it was too right leaning, it'd be boring aswell.
He's done some great podcasts in the past, biographical interviews with former sports players, podcasts on crime in Ireland, podcasts on the Ukraine & russian war to name a few. Its dying off, its clear he's become a bit distracted by his book.
he was anti divorce when the referendum was held and I guess pro life (he told waters he was). I don’t know what I’d describe him as ….” Wannabe cool dad” in his opinions
The podcast previewing the Spain Germany game was a bit strange. The backstory of Williams coming to Spain was interesting but I couldn't help notice that a presumably Spanish lawyer advised his family to lie about what country they were coming from in order to be granted asylum. But he's good at football so I guess it's ok to be a fraud.
let’s hope you aren’t ever trying to get asylum after walking through a desert. But even if it does happen, I’m sure your mahogany like western scruples will ensure you won’t utter a single fib.
The lad who was good at football wasn’t even born at this stage by the way.
Breaking the law is ok with you?
It just shows how easy it is to lie and get away with it,why they're all destroying their documents etc. Europe is a soft touch.
It's not fair to genuine cases who will no doubt be thrown in with all these criminals.
if it’s a life or death decision of course it is. I don’t like open borders but judging people for making a life or death decision to lie or tell the truth is western moral superiority gone mad.
think about it
So then they can all say I lied because life and death?
How can you believe anything they said if they're lying from day one. I mean it's a bloody tearjerker worthy of Spielberg isn't it.
Edit: you clearly are a fan of open borders if you think they should be legally granted asylum and allowed to stay in the EU. (Our morals are already included in our laws by how we write them and what we think is right and wrong, so either you agree with the law or you don't)
