It is easy to be undefeated when you don't defend the belt.
Actually, it was his pinkie toe. That's a devastating injury to be fair.
He was in so much pain, I heard he cried "wee, wee, wee" all the way home.
Dana white was in Shannon earlier , wonder was he going to check up on Conor’s pinkie toe 😁
Potential career ending injury
Not really. True McGregor can't be in the GOAT discussion without defending, but it's not "easy" to be undefeated given the run he had.
After a string of lower level wins, then ran though Buchinger, Brimage, Holloway, Brandao, Porier, Siver, Mendes, Aldo.
No part of putting together an unbroken run against that list of fighters up to the KO of decade unbeaten Aldo was "easy" and anyone who argues it was is just being disingenous.
I was referring more so that the competition would have been greater if he had to defend.
Don’t get me wrong, back then he was stellar, he could have been really great at 155, but he went for the money and who could blame him.
I would say that he can’t be considered “GOAT” at all though without defences, and lack of activity.
Not the singular, undisputed GOAT at 145 - for the reasons listed. And we'll never agree who that is.
But are you honestly saying you'd not included him in say top 5 featherweights? Hmm, that kinda sounds a bit like undermining his 145 run due to the shambles of his more recent history. Who would you have in that case? There have been some underserving UFC champions, but I don't think it can be said any 145 champ have an easy fight for the belt.
An easy way to stay undefended champion for sure. But you'd have to get to the UFC title fight and win without being defeated on the way. If you think that's easy, I look forward to you debut 😋
That fair. If he defended agaisnt Edgar, rematched Aldo, and rematched Max before vacating, then it's much more solidified. But as above, his run to Aldo was enough to for top 5, imo
He's easily in the top 5 featherweights of all time, its absolutely ridiculous to think otherwise, he's not in the conversation for lightweight.
Impact wise for what he's done for the sport, he's easily the greatest of all time but I wouldn't consider him one of the greatest fighters of all time
He beat the a guy that was undefeated in 18 fights in like 15 seconds, He completely destroyed that division.
As I said he was a top six fighter in lightweight and not a lengend of that division, far from it. He did do better against Khabib than a lot of the top ten did.
So what if he beat him in 15 seconds? He was impressive in the fights up to that I agree, but the length of time doesn’t make him the best in that division. It’s a stretch to say he “destroyed” that division.
Doing better against Khabib? Like when Khabib knocked him on his arse and toyed with him…that fight yeah?
Ah just stop.
He went four rounds with Khabib and did much better than Dustin or Justin did.
As for "so what" - he knocked out Aldo in 15 seconds, Aldo who hadn't been beaten in a decade, was on a collossal run and the majority of fighters picked Aldo to win, I think ironically it might have been Khabib who predicted a McGregor win way back when.
He did destroy that division, at that time. He didn't lose once, knocked out almost everyone, and then KO'd the long-reigning champ with an incredible counter shot.
Is it really so hard to simply acknowledge the man's incredible achievements, at that time. It doesn't require you to become a fan or endorse his personal life choices and decisions outside the octagon.
Its crazy almost everything he said he said he wouldn't do 10 years ago he has done. Full house if/when he leaves sbg or has a camp elsewhere
Grand, I will give you the Aldo thing. The only thing Aldo has over him is defending his belt.
Going 4 rounds against Khabib…but getting out on his arse and barely making a mark on him, that is much better than the others, is it? Dustin at least almost had him in a choke. Iaquinta went the full 5 as well, or does that not count?
Hes the first fighter since Tibau to take a round of Khabib
loads of people went the distance, Barboza,RDA, Healy , Trujillo
Just because it went the distance doesn't mean it was a more competitive fight. Khabib was playing with iaquinta, he was jabbing his face like Muhammad Ali for 3 straight rounds
You have to ignore the other 3 rounds then…when Khabib was doing what he wanted and landed a clean one as well to knock him on his arse.
And he wasn't playing with Conor? C'mon now.
He still the only man to win a round against him other than Tibau
Who cares? He still lost, and never had a realistic chance of winning anyway.
The orginal comment was he done better, which he did
So he is as good as Tibau, is that the logic here?
Why you moving the goal posts
The statement was "He went four rounds with Khabib and did much better than Dustin or Justin did"
We are point out to you that is correct
How did he do much better? Because he won a round (debatable) but still got smoked for the other 3, including a knock down from Khabib.
Give over.
Poirier came closer to beating Khabib than McGregor with his guillotine. McGregor had an ok round but never looked close to beating or matching Khabib
Becuse winning 1 round is better than Winning no rounds ,
Yes that makes all the difference when you still got smashed to bits…right?
Poirier was nowhere near a locked in guillotine. It was a Hail Mary, and hopeless really.
Conor winning a round is not debatable. It’s an objective based on official score cards.
You can win a round a lose, and also lose a fight. It’s pretty common. A 29-28 loss is “doing better” than 30-27. (a split is closer again). Are you really disputing that?
Conor wasn’t close to winning. but did you actually see Khabib’s other fights?
In his last 4 fights he’s been thoroughly outclassed and well beaten in 3 of them. He had a good win against a finished Cowboy.
It’s 8 years since he fought Alvarez and he’s won 1 fight in that time? He’s won one round against Khabib, the first round in the first Poirier fight and the Cowboy TKO. That’s 3 rounds won in 9. Some fall from (sporting) grace.
He's just all about keeping the money show on the road really. Can't expect much from him in the octagon anymore. And he's shown himself to be a pretty scummy person on top of it all.
In Dustin 2 he was not outclassed , He was won the first round on all 3 cards, the leg kick changed the fight,
Dustin won th fight fair & square but Conor was live in the fight, Dustin has said he Conor almost got him out of there with a few of his shots ,
