Good clothes being robbed off the washing line!
cents only appeared in 2002
I love a good long ride…on my bike. I'm not one to use these tracking apps much but I do clock up a decent few kms every week. Biking is my preferred mode of transport, except when I need to haul equipment or records.
Widespread joyriding of stolen fast luxury cars...does that still happen really?
Stickers with "penny" sweets that you'd collect and put into an album, not sure if that still goes on.
Pearlorian cats were one example
In some areas you still hear about it.
Not sure if this is still a thing but getting your hat robbed from right off your head. You'd be in town or wherever and you feel your hat getting stroked. By the time you look around some lad would be halfway down the road. No hope of getting it back. I stopped wearing caps after the 2nd one.
An urban version of Counting Coup…
Leaded petrol fumes.
Shopping centre carparks where the driving was the same as Carmageddon the game
This stand up pump cylinders of toothpaste. I assume the reason being the waste plastic.
Pez dispensers.
Still around in likes of Mr Price etc
Super hero tattoos with chewing gum, where you ended up with a Jackson Pollock on your arm.
Eating paper, mans worst ever invention. I think those fizz filled space ships that you can still buy might be made from a form of it. The consistency of a communion wafer and the taste of a dead earwig.
A lad in my class in primary school was read the riot act for having one of those on his arm, think it was one of Popeye.
cigarette sweets. Came in a box and would snap very easily. Imagine making them now
Toothpaste tubes made from metal, and rolling them up to get every bit of toothpaste out.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it..
Saw 'chalk sticks' superhero cigarette box shaped sweets with tattoo included in my spar just yesterday!
What were those popping sweets you put in your mouth and they used to burst. Popping candy I think there were called.
still around
I'll just have one more for the road
Might have been said already but boxes of broken biscuits.
Probably discontinued for dental heath reasons now. The biscuits all rubbed off on one another and god knows, they probably threw a few trowels of crumbs in too at the factory. Your bit of a broken Classic bar (the real prize of box) was so much sugary than a standard one you could feel the cavities forming.
Space Dust?
Can sweets, you got a quarter pound bag of different kinds of sweets for 25p. In Donegal they were from Oatfield. I remember seeing a place on Aungier street in Dublin in the early 2000's (close to DBS) that had something similar, maybe Kavanaghs.
Might be just where I live but bonna night, digging a hole in the groung to try make a bbq with firelighters. We could never get the fire going so we used to eat the sausages raw.
A room full of 20 to 40 year old's and not a single visible tattoo. Not anymore. Everyone and their granny has visible tattoos these days.
No ugly tattoos on people, most people were slim, probably food is too good now with loads of Chinese and fast food restaurants compared to then. Also people were doing active jobs rather than sedentary like many are now
Adults of all ages hobbling and limping around with awful posture - I was told that was due to rickets being widespread in the bad old days.
Probably also because many people had hard physical jobs, you see old footage of dublin in 50s and 60s with workmen lugging huge sacks onto and off of trucks . There were no lift assist everything was hand balled
We were dicing with death using those since it was well known that some were tampered with and soaked in drugs which would then enter the kids system when they put them on 😄 does anyone else remember this urban legend?
Would have been preferable to god knows what was in them.
