picked up these rims yesterday. I’ve a bit of inch gun barrel about will do for uprights. Electric fence posts on the yard that can move out of the way.
Anyone ever make DIY concrete fence posts, similar to the ones with the round tops for barbed / sheep wire?
what amount / size of steel bar would ya need in a 6 foot post.
field drinkers on the cheap. Cutting with the bung at the bottom makes emptying convenient.
Find they're fine indoors out of sun but the plastic hardens and cracks outside, plus cattle tend to roll them unless very well anchored ( especially in warm weather if supply is slow and all cattle want a drink at the same time)
A tip for again Brian is only cut a square out that they can get their heads in instead of cutting in half leaves a lot more capacity and keeps ball cock safe.
I’d say we have one in use 18 years and no signs of degradation at all.
Didn't have an insulator for the electric fence so improvised with blue hose and some bull wire.
I find broken plastic electric fence posts cut into short lengths are ideal for such purposes. There lightweight, non conductive and if you cut them leaving 2 of the molded clips that hold the wire in place then you can easily tie on the electric wire and a piece of twine to anchor it.
MMy new foot trimming tool box.
I hate shocks. Id walk a mile to turn off the fence than use your handle. Good thinking all the same. I worked for a man long go that would just catch the wire, either on or off and pay no heed.
My youngest doesn't seem to be effected by the electric fence at all. She's seven and she goes through the middle of 2 hot wires to get out to the calves while brushing against both wires. Line voltage tests at about 8000 volts.
Saw a local plant hire fellow do that, I've gone quickly through the wires like that since then, the clothes seem to insulate you, i wouldn't chance it wearing a t- shirt.
That's why I always put the fencer at the field entry. Switch it off on way in, move fence and switch back on when leaving field. Fence is never live when I'm near it.
Yea, but she seems to take her time even in shorts/ t-shirt with a bare knee or hand touching the ground for balance as she does it.
Made this during the winter for carrying rolls of wrap. The red frame was off an implement that’s left under the bushes the last 20 years or more so decided to make use of it. Stripped it apart, widened it, welded on the pipes and linkage brackets, sand-blasted and painted and stuck on a few lights and mirrors to see traffic easier coming out gates.
Good job, I could fit my whole year supply of plastic on that 😁. Mirrors are a great job.👍️
There is a reason to never leave fence units at field entrances around here, but remote controls work too.
If they are going to steal it, a few more steps across the field won't put them off.
But we wouldn't be fencing near a main road anyway so if they came this far they'd go the extra bit.
Dread the fencer here, I've installed a smart plug on thefor the fencer to save me walking back to the shed to check it each time and still have a hook to disconnect from each field from before the smart plug was brought in.
If they are going to steal damn sure they are going to have to walk for it though.
There is a few lads around here that couldn't pass water, but if there was effort involved they are too lazy to bother. I think the "machinery auctions" in the local marts has lead to a rise in the lifting of these type of items. A handy €50 for lads.
looking at the news there. Always interesting to see the low turnout at elections. 50 minutes to go and still polling stations reporting less than 40% turnout.
The thought of a shock turns me as well. Think it's from getting the scrambler stuck on a hot wire a few times and getting shocked while panicking the bike would go up on fire.
I made this a few years ago but it needed stiffer tines, much better at breaking up moss now.

Bord na mona are selling off more gear, including a few locomotives
I bought a topper a few weeks ago the skids have 4 adjustment bolts on each side.
Has anyone come up with a quick adjustment ? I thinking a beefed up version of what you see on a lawnmower
or some sort of spring loaded pins where the bolts fit.
I have a piece of ground that I want to keep low and higher it up for everything else.
Your lift.….control knob/lever .......
Pick up a cheap battery impact gun the next time they’re in Lidl and you’d have 8 bolts opened and closed and the skids lined up in a couple of minutes.
Alternatively buy one dewalt or equivalent power tool and buy a bare unit impact driver alongside. 2 batteries does a lot for occasional users.
Absolutely worth spending a few extra Euros on anything but a Lidl/Aldi type impact gun, nuts anyway rusted would need to be loosened for them first as they always forget to ship any uga dugas with them.
