Had some Teeling Crystal Single Malt last night, while its nice, I don't think its as different as people have made it out to be. I found it a little harsh, needed a few drops of water to mellow out.
Picked up a bottle of Elijah Craig small batch and Eagle Rare 10.
I drank so much bourbon there for a while I made myself more or less sick of it, but I'm back in the saddle now.
I'm not sure there is a better summer sipper than a nice, chewy bourbon.
Power's Three Swallow or Jameson Black Barrell? Both 30 euro in SuperValu at the moment.
3 swallow would be my choice....
buy both🥃
😆!
Black Barrel would be my choice... 😋
Though I'm really wondering if I got a dodgy bottle of 3 Swallows somehow, it was so bad that it can't be the one everyone else likes!
Black Barrel is only €25 in Dunnes. Picked one up yesterday, as well as Powers Gold Label for €23.
Black Barrel for making some cocktails this weekend. Powers to have in mixed drinks.
Watching the Scots hang in there versus the Swiss at the Euros.
Will have a dram of Isle of Arran 10 yo single malt. 46%. Very nice - honey sweetness and citrus fruit freshness, to crib from the tasting blurb. Unpeated.
Goodbye old friend
Lads I've only just copped on there is now yearly cask strength releases of Powers John's Lane. Has anyone tasted it? Might pick up a bottle and tuck it away for a special occasion.
Yeah, it’s lovely. I think one of the lads here said he thought it was different to barrel club version though. I’d had it in a deconstructed tasting, pre Covid I think, but I’m not able to compare over time like some people can. I’ve a bottle of it on the shelf anyway.
When does this get released typically? I have to confess myself to being a fan of the regular bottling
Hello new friend!
I love when I get new toys at work!
Hat tip to odyssey06 in the bargains alerts. Beara Black Cask is €25 in Supervalu, normally €40 it seems. No idea if it's any good, but thought I'd let you all know!
Splash of water in that?
It is good! Maybe not €40 good but at €25 is a bargain. Just a fun easy drinking whiskey. The bottle is a work of art \ craft, nice nautical vibe to it.

Ah you're here! I can never remember which names I see in which parts of boards 😋
Thanks for the heads up, I'll probably pick up a bottle if Maynooth has it
Finished my Dark Silkie Cask Strength last night. Beautiful drop, I was going to order another bottle but has anyone tried the Dark and Midnight Silkie Cask Strengths and could give a quick comparison?
Just won this
6 year old single malt
Full maturation in ollorosso barrel
Looks an absolute bargain
Anyone tried it
I actually used it in an old fashioned, and that was perfect for handling the abv. Neat it's just a barrage of oak and alcohol. Playing around with water opens up a load of sweet vanilla and toffee notes. The finish is massively long no matter what way you have it.
Got a nice little gift from my daughter yesterday. Came with a special glass and all. 59.1%! What's the advice as to the best way to drink this when the time comes? With a drop of water added?
Down in one 💪
But seriously, I would try it neat. It'll have a hell of a bang, no doubt, but you might like it. I have a few cask strengths at that sort of abv and they're beautiful as is. Is you don't like it, then start adding water a drop or two at a time until you hit your sweet spot
Soft day, begorrah.
Michael Flatley will be in the Celtic Whiskey Shop today between 5-6 pm to chat about his Irish whiskey The Dreamer
Produced by Michael Flatley, with master blender Noel Sweeney, formerly of Cooley Distillery and Powerscourt Distillery.
Assuming you will drink it neat, without ice or a mixer, I would suggest you nose (smell) it as is, and take a sip, as is, at the full alcohol content.
Then, dilute slightly, to taste. I would shoot for 50%, and smell and taste again. Then, if you wish, you could further dilute down towards 40%.
It is a personal thing, but for me the sweet spot to drink whisky neat, just as is, is probably with an ABV of between 45% and 55%.
There are some few whiskies that defy expectation, and are strangely drinkable at higher ABVs… By that I mean, despite the high alcohol content, I feel like I could toss them back like water. In my experience, it's often bourbons.
give it a few mins after you add the waater, i
I'm in Scotland. What I think I like best about whisky bars here is how heavily they push independent bottlings, and you rarely get a bad recommendation.
This was wonderful, a great bite to it.
I'm not overly sure if this is the right spot for the below but is there a forum/thread were like minded people can swap a bottle for a bottle? I've recently developed a taste for Scotch peated whiskeys and will happily swap some of the whiskeys I have (mainly given as gifts to me) for a Scottish Smokey one, or Connemara / Waterford Irish smokies.
Feel free to move the above is not in the right thread.
