New thread as old one is nearly at 10000 post limit.
Old thread
He lacked class last night. Going straight to the car park and driving off instead of congratulating Bryson.
Whatever about club selection and iffy lies and caddy and whatnot… He missed two putts of 3 foot and a bit over the last 3 holes of a major Sunday. You just cant be doing that and he'll find it difficult to get over this I think.
He lost that last night to a loose cannon basket case, it wasn’t like he lost to an accomplished golfer at the top of his game.
He has become the Mayo of golf. A joke figure but in a kind of sad way. He should go away for a while and get himself sorted out.
I’m not a big RTE fan but I wouldn’t blame them for swerving him. An odd comment.
Dude you obviously don't know much about this sport. Kindly try not to display your ignorance so obviously.
De Chambeau, McIlroy & Cantlay are all top pros , at the top of the game & their respective games, going at it down the final stretch of a brutal major where many other top, top class pros had fallen away e.g. Scheffler, Shauffle, Aberg, Fleetwood, Spieth, Matsyama, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Rory's short putting (1st one in particular) & his iron selection cost him under severe pressure.... that happens in sport sometimes.
You think my comment is odd but you think it OK that RTÉ Sport is “swerving” Ireland’s only global superstar.
sorry, what? You don’t class Dechambeau as an accomplished golfer? What planet are you living on? Or have you never watched golf before yesterday?
MOD EDIT No nationality comments, read the charter please
Yeah ok.
He bottled it “dude”. Dress it up any way you want.
What? That final chip from the bunker on the 18th proves he had more bottle in his little finger yesterday than Rory. Far from a basket case.
Ok both were nervous in the last few holes, but Bryson certainly pulled out a party trick on the 18th when it was needed.
oh dear. Some major denial on here. I’ll leave you to it boys.
I wonder is there any chance he skips The Open.
He has to be mentally scarred after last night.
So many 'what if' moments in the round. He played the first 14 holes or so magnificently. Desperately unlucky on 5 then some amazing scrambling over the next few holes, then a run of 4 birdies in 5.
I was sure he had it after the 14th.
It's a funny game and is awful cruel at times and the pressure must be unreal - something the vast majority of people will never experience.
Will he ever get a better chance to win a Major?
Theres zero chance.
I dont think he'll crawl into a cave. He'll need a couple of nights sleep a good hug from the wife and he'll be ok.
But golfing wise this will be a difficult one to get over. Dont think thats him 'done' time is a great healer but it will really hurt and not easy to shake off. He's done similar before but this was the worst one yet. I know he's a gazillionaire and he's living the dream by anyone's standards but today I feel a bit sorry for him.
Hope the audience goes easy on him, crowds can be cruel and it can be a lonely place in front of an audience after something like this.
He'd be wishing The Open was next week imo! The great thing about golf is theres always the next one! He fell a bit short! Is chips were unreal all day and so too was his putting apart from the 2 small ones that cost him dearly. But miles better than what it has been..
He’s pencilled in to play the Travellers this week, I can’t see that happening. There is a good article in the IT this morning by Malachy Clerkin, unfortunately the link function seems to be broken since the last update by Vanilla.
What the hell is wrong with this serial loser?? I’ve only ever played golf with a hurley and sliothar but i always managed to pot those sort of easy shots. Even if I kicked the sliothar it would still go down the hole on one of them simple pots.
US Network never dropped Nick Faldo. He retired 🙄
He'd have 3 or 4 green jackets by now if he didn't suffer that collapse in 2011 but it has haunted him to this day. History has shown a catastrophic choke becomes baggage he can't shake. The smart money is on him not getting over last night's disaster and on it destroying his chances of another major.
Won't skip The Open, might skip the Olympics though.
McIlroy is not a superstar. Conor McGregor is. I don't think either men are particularly likeable characters.
What has that got to do with my comment that it was handed to him on a plate!
And theres the post of the year, i would just close the thread if this is the level of posts.
Mcilroy not a superstar?..he is one of the biggest sports stars in the world for the last 10 years plus.
He is paid superstar wages but outside the golf world/bubble he is globally not a household name. He has never come close to the name recognition of a Tiger Woods, a true superstar.
I dearsay that outside of Ireland and UFC fans, McGregor is less of a global superstar, but it’s difficult to quantify so hardly worth debating.
Showed his true colours. The guy is a seriously petulant man child. Agree fully with the below tweet.

Why would you compare any anybody outside of Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Usain Bolt, Messi, Ronaldo maybe Mike Tyson and Michael Schumacher to Tiger Woods?
As regards the last ten years Rory McIlroy is up at the forefront of most famous sports people.
I can't think of anybody outside of Bolt, Tom Brady, LeBron, Serena Williams and McGregor who were bigger names in that timespan.
False. McGregor is a huge name in America and around the world. He truly transcends the sport and is staring in major movies with jake gyllenhaal.
I would have said that not running away after the match and supporting the winner was the first step in him getting over this episode. Leaving like he did, wasn’t good for optics but even worse for his own state of mind - he’s not demonstrated being gracious in defeat - that tells me that mentally hes in turmoil - had he stayed after losing, it may have helped his mental recovery
