Old thread
You called it.
Hard to refute your make believe scenario but... Steve Williams isn't leaving Tiger on the 18th of a Major, or Tiger isn't leaving Steve Williams to walk to the 18th alone.
It doesn't matter anyway. Harry has no input, he's a mate on the bag and that's what Rory wants.
Rory didn't take a club out of the bag until Harry brought it up.
The issue is will his mate ever go Rory WTF are you thinking going with a driver when the 3W has done the job this week. Unlikely as he probably knows he is happy out getting the paychecks and the good life.
That's the bigger issue..
Then who rakes the bunker???
I honestly don't know how someone can say the driver off the tee cost him when he missed a two footer for par. Doesnt matter what club he took off the tee he takes if he can't sink a two footer.
I think Harry is a bad caddie and Rory should replace him. I think a good caddie hands him an 8 iron and hands him a 3 wood.
I think criticising Harry for raking a bunker is bizarre. It’s his job, there isn’t really another option. Cantlays caddie was holding the flag until it was finished. Cantlay was on 18 by himself (not teeing off for a major win)
Bryson is now… with the US Open in hand.
you’re not getting it. He’s totally right, Woods and Steve Williams were a team and no way would he be doing that while Woods stood on the tee on the final hole.
Diamond should be gone as of now, I’ve been saying it for years on here. How, with all the team he has around him, McIlroy continues to employ him is beyond me and he only has himself to blame I couldn’t have any less sympathy for him. He talks himself up no end and when the chips are down he can’t get it done.
If there is any consolation for Rory here it's that Bryon had to hit a classic shot to actually win it.
Are you serious? You saw the lie. You saw the chip. You saw how tricky everything was. He should have made the putt but he also shouldn’t have had such a tricky putt.
who rakes the bunker then???
so you’ve no answer.
I’ll tell you who rakes it, Harry because it’s his **** job.
Nice bit of time now until Royal Troon, enough to get over this. Rory is playing great stuff at moment and will be in with a great chance again next month
Supposed to have ran out to a waiting car and left the clubhouse the second Bryson got the winning putt
Hopefully enough time for a new caddy - but , he will wait till season is over - Harry knows a bit about Links golf if he was let speak - and maybe a good time to end it more naturally.
But - i'd prefer a new man on bag.
As the other poster said, you're just not getting it are you.
But you're right. Harry's job is raking bunkers and carrying the bag... and that's about it.
The putts were there to be taken
Bryson driver off the tee, worse spot, can putt
Imagine is Rory had someone like Williams on bag - would be unreal compared to harry the mute.
Explain what should have happened? Harry and Rory leave a bunker in bad condition and move on?
There’s nothing to get here. It’s a stupid take.
Harry is a bad caddie but criticising him for raking a bunker is stupid.
Driver off the tee meant and where it landed he was no longer playing to win, he was playing to make a play off.
He left 125 with a 3 wood yesterday. What benefit was there to driver? But there were massive risks.
Yet somehow, that doesn’t cost him?
What Bryson did is irrelevant, they play the game completely differently.
The 2 most agressive players were somehow first and second
He lost it on the previous holes
They play the game in a similar fashion
He knew bryson was coming behind and par might not be good enough
So he went for the win
You spent all day saying Rory wasn’t aggressive but now suddenly he was?
This discussion is about Rory, not Bryson.
He left 125 with 3 wood yesterday. This take makes zero sense. Rory pulling driver makes zero sense.
No i said he wouldnt win by being conservative
When he dropped the putts he put the ball back in brysons court as he now has yje advantage of the extra hole with no pressure
He hits the drive to win it, thays the chance
Thats how people win
Cantlay played boring after and amazing day friday and lost, why because he tried to sit on the lead
Bryson won because he went into the day with a lead after playing to win all week
A two footer is a tricky put now? He should have taken the wood off the tee, but even if he did, he woul have been more than happy with a two footer for par.
Being conservative got him to -8
everyone plays to win
If he takes 3 wood, he finds the fairway and likely finds the green. 2 putt par and he’s in a play off.
Of course both putts cost him.
Cantlay tried to sit on a lead? What are you talking about?
According to Laura Davies on commentary he took driver to try & go win this major, as did Bryson DC. When Rory opted for driver, De Chambeau was eying a birdie putt on 17.
The difference is a 125 yards, or a less than 75 yards, 2nd shot to the 18th green. From less than 75 yards in he feels he can hit & stop it within 10 feet, to give the best chance for birdie to either win it outright, or to force a play off (if Bryson had birdied either of last 2). As it happened De Chambeau didn't birdie either, but Rory didn't know that he wouldn't & he was trying to maximise his chances to win that major.
P.s. I think his choice of Iron on 17, & his nervy 3 foot putt miss there were his real mistakes tbh. The putt that he missed on the last was very slippy, but the one he missed on 17 was awful. A very nervy looking effort. That cost him a play off. Both cost him a major. Yuck - fup it anyway!!
and as Nick Faldo said, there’s no benefit being closer than 125. He was slating him before he hit it.
No that is not true
Winners have a different mentality
