Simple. That explains it
I know who is bothered. All the homeless people with theirs arms stuck deep in the bins searching for the cans and bottles.
Read through the thread mate. 😂
Hello and delete
In the pilot scheme at Bloom the cans/bottles were collected by the Re-turn truck from the bins.
AFAIK they were not put in an RVM at all.
It wouldn't make sense for someone to stand at an RVM feeding bulk deliveries into an RVM.
Quicker to sort them on a belt and weigh them to arrive at a figure.
I was in Lidl today. I had a receipt that I forgot to claim the last time I was in and another one from today. I didn't buy anything this time, I just wanted to cash them. The woman was reluctant to do so, she said she would do it this time, but really I'm supposed to use them against my shopping bill, she was saying it's a rental scheme... I wasn't interested in listening, I said that doesn't make sense and I just wanted my money back.
I hate this scam. So often the machines are broken. I went to an Aldi that had just one machine, it was broken, saying on the screen to tell a member of staff. I told them it was broken, they said it's not working today. Great help! I had to bring the bottles and cans home. I won't be bringing them to shops with one machine only in future. Even when I was in Lidl, one of the 2 machines was broken. I've seen both machines broken in Tesco before. Super Valu have them outside and were shutting them as soon as it got dark, and still lock them up long before they close at 9pm.
€1 for about 75 cans. Complete non runner.
Since it's illegal to sell non Re-turn stock now all items sold at the event should be in scope.
For the same reason any drinks brought into the event should also be in scope.
There may still be some amount of non scope items brought to the event from cross border shopping for instance.
See my other post above re. barcodes likely not being needed.
They seem then to be operating different rules to those allowed within the regulations of the scheme when they feel like it.
You could be talking about over €200k from Electric Picnic alone that they will 'harvest'…75k people, circa 20 drinks each over the 3 days is €225k at 15c a can, I doubt the headline act is getting that amount of cash 😁.
I'm not sure there is any rule that stops them offering people the option to gift their deposits to charity.
It's always an alternative for event attenders to take their cans/bottles to an RVM same as if they bought them elsewhere.
Of course the logistics are more difficult if you had 20 items to carry but not necessarily impossible if travelling by car.
Early days, it will be interesting to see how it develops.
Is that any different in theory to what waste collections companies do with our green bin?
A lot of the single Karscrone(sp) cans in my Aldi are still old stock. I don't know if the deposit is being charged or not but the label underneath them says it is.
What are lidl playing at! They are supposed to either cash the receipts or use it for goods payments. Are they above the law?
I think it's a good bit different.
With your green bin you were paying a company to take away recyclables.
Then Re-turn was launched and your recyclables acquired a cash value IE. the deposit which you can reclaim at an RVM.
This initiative is asking you to voluntarily hand over your recyclables and forgo the deposit to help charities.
We've had multiple accounts on this thread of LIDL making it up as they go along, completely contravening the Re-turn scheme. Selling multipacks with Return logo on the box, charging deposits and the actual products not registered for the scheme.
Baffling given they had run trials unlike most other supermarkets. I think the staff are still operating under the trial rules and not the real actual rules.
Changes are needed. RVMs lying out of order is out of order. Re-Turn dont care. Theyre raking it in. Im not sure what an effective protest of this would look like. I wonder are shop staff getting scoundered enough to do anything. After all theyre doing extra work and taking more sh!t off customers for zero reward.
Not enamoured by the assumption re-turn have that I don’t want my deposit back at festivals and public events.
I was at Bloom and it’s hard not to view it as the money making scam. Not even an option to redeem the deposit.
As someone said about EP. Kerrrrr-chiiiing!!!!!
Have you checked the barcode on the Re-turn website barcode checker ?
You might still get the deposit back but they still shouldn't be selling old stock for the last two weeks.
Its even more baffling that they seem to be the consistently worst at this when they're German where they've had equivalent kit for decades.
Surely it's more an option rather than an assumption?.
If you want your deposit back just hold onto the can/bottle and bring it to an RVM.
Do we really want to make event organisers go to the expense of providing an RVM at a temporary venue ?
Especially given that any additional expense would likely be added to the price of admission.
There was a return scheme in Ireland in the olden days.Lidl had machines at certain locations that paid out 10c for each can or plastic bottle regardless of the size.
I was in Aldi.Paid for the shopping.Realised I had a voucher. The cashier heard me commenting on it.He asked if I wanted cash for it.Maybe do your shopping in Aldi
Yes. They aren't in scope.
I presume they would give it back if somebody argued the point and if the deposit was charged in the first place but I'm guessing nobody will bother.
They'll just go in the bin with the other returns that the machine decides to reject for no reason.
My recyclables always had value, especially to the waste collectors. With the aluminium and PET gone from green bins, collection rates will and have gone up. And we are now doing the sorting and returning and have the extra hassle of getting the deposit back, most times for me, the system works well.
I have mate.
So you made up the claim, would that be fair?
Mate?
Yes the charities would want to be fairly desperate, with that being said if there's 1,000 cans left over there's worse places to put them
Only one making up claims here is you mate.
People leaving deposits in the bog now. Never thought Id see that 🤣. Maybe its coz the nearest machine is 20km away.
Can't argue with most of that except to point out yet again that we are still waiting for a figure for how much bin collection went up by because of DRS.
And I still think the charity thing is different.
