As if anyone connected to Re-Turn really cares if targets are met 🤣. The EU will just fine Ireland like all the other targets we dont meet. CEO Foley, Ossian, suppliers, large retailers (not their shop staff) and whoever will get to expense to the unreturned deposit fund are the only ones with a "win" in this nonsense. Customers definitely dont share in any winning Re-Turn scenario.
I think if i walked away after a year or two of failure and having pocketed a fair chunk of over a quarter of a billion euro a year because recycling initiatives mumble mumble while refusing to release how much i pay myself, id be fairly happy. In your face environment, we have your money and that's all that matters.
Absolutely nothing about this whole thing is positive towards Return, not one single thing. Its like watching a future tribunal being born.
Not having any connection with Re-turn I really don't know their strategy.
They certainly need to get the retailers in line and the consumers onside.
Indeed, the don't seem to have been doing either from day 1 so their plan b will be interesting
It certainly stinks doesn't it.
The Mrs. said the machine was back in order this afternoon. I'm just back from the shop now. The machine was OOO again.
Seriously, and I'll put this very bluntly…anyone who's still waving a flag for this scam is either the perfect example of sunk cost fallacy or a bloody fool.
It can be boring to read the detailed stuff, but it is all in the legislation. If things work out, there could be a reduction. The Norwegians have a system where there is a sliding scale of taxation dependent on the level of returns. At present their company pays no tax because they have achieved such a high level.
PART VIII THE DEPOSIT 17. (1) The deposit shall be as set out in Schedule 1. (2) The deposit shall be itemised as a separate line item on any invoice, receipt, credit note, dispatch and delivery docket containing the price of inscope products. (3) The Minister may set, and adjust, the deposit amount or amounts after consultation with an approved body, where it appears that – (a) the cost is insufficient to incentivise consumers to return inscope bottles and in-scope containers to the scheme, or (b) the revenues returned to the approved body from the scheme are exceeding or are insufficient to cover operational costs. (4) The refundable nature of the deposit shall be made clear to the consumer in all material promoting the scheme and all points of sale
So there is no plan b outside of amending the DRS rate.
Or am I reading this incorrectly?
Not necessarily reading it incorrectly.
It's only regarding the deposit rate so must be taken in that context.
Re-turn may have other strategies and plans that will be announced in due course.
Grant or refusal of approval 7. (1) An approval granted by the Minister to a person to operate a scheme shall oblige an approved body to implement the proposals agreed as part of the application process. (2) Subject to Regulations 8 and 10, an approval granted by the Minister under this Regulation shall be for a period of not more than 10 years. (3) An approval granted under paragraph 1 shall be reviewed by the Minister by the end of the second quarter of the third year after the grant of approval and by the end of the second quarter of each third year following. (4) An approval in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 1 shall be subject to such conditions as the Minister may specify as appropriate, including conditions relating to – (a) the articles of association of the body corporate, (b) the appropriate certificate issued by the Companies Registration Office, (c) corporate governance,
So there's currently no published enhancements or plans in place outside of an adjustment of the DRS fee for the scheme should it not reach it's KPI.
The producers really are getting of Scott free in all of this when you review the scheme in it's entirety.
This should increase the collection rate and help charities.

Despite Mr. Foley coming out with his usual guff
“Consumers still have the option to bring their empty plastic bottle and cans back to their nearest deposit return points to get their money back.”
nobody is going home from the likes of Electric Picnic with 3 days worth of empty bottles or cans in their bags, RVMs are not being supplied at the festival and there is no manual return scheme being offered. People at festivals are left with no other choice but to take part in this, lets be honest.
Half of EP attendees don't even bring their tent with them. Expecting to see a sea of hungover festival-goers, carefully collecting their undamaged cans and bottles on the Monday morning is, unlikely, to put it mildly.
What's the upper limit on bottle size for the scheme? We'll all be on the White Lightning...
3 litre plastic bottles of 8.4% White Lightning could be purchased for less than £2.
Link for quote? 🤣
Was in NI again today picking up bargains again. Some with the Re-Turn logo and obviously no deposit charge.
It wouldn't have been my favourite, but with a dash of blackcurrant it wasn't too bad. (this is 20 years ago, not sure what price it was at the tim…)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Lightning_%28cider%29
I lived in Derry as a student in 2000. Never saw 3 bottles for £2 but it was cheap olrite. And often paired with blackcurrant mi wadi like you say. Had a pal at the time whos carry out was white lightening, vodka bottle and lime cordial. He had a problem with drink though.
Re-Turn includes containers from 150ml up to 3 Litres:
What drinks containers can I return? PET plastic drinks containers, steel and aluminum cans between 150ml and 3 litres that show the Re-turn logo are accepted. They will need to be empty, undamaged and the barcode needs to be clearly legible.

I used have a customer who's lunchtime drink was three snakebites of White Lightning and Carlsberg Special Brew. He used then go back up the scaffolding to do his work as a carpenter. You wouldn't even think he'd had a shandy he'd hold it so well.
Prices/taxes don't go down in Ireland
Are you sure you are using the machines correctly? Do you need someone to show you how they work maybe?
That's an unfair comment I've used it since it came in and I'd say its 50/50 if it's working could be full or broke, also some just shut down halfway through your deposit, no reason given ,they had time to plan it and inform the stores ,why didn't they get the machines to work properly as the companies that supply the machines around Europe, that have been in place for a few year's ,so any problems should have been sorted .
Did you quote the wrong post?
The poster you are replying to has stated multiple times the RVMs are out of order.
How do you use a machine that is out of order correctly?
Do you need help with that sentence?
Nobody can use the machine. There's a sign on it that says Out Of Order.
No, quoting the correct post. See a lot of people not using machines correctly, and ending up putting the machine out of use. Then they complain about the system not working.
Where’s the location? Maybe businesses outside dublin are getting saddled with machines that don’t work properly I guess. Or just staff that aren’t trained properly how to empty them.
Ahh so it's the peoples fault for putting cans in that is breaking all the machines - machines that just mysteriously decide to stop working as you're about to put a bottle in
Are Re-Turn paying you well?
Ah would you stop. If the machine went out of order while using it the poster you quoted would have stated as much. Ive never seen so many fantasists gathered in 1 thread in all my time on Boards.
Are you saying all the machines in Dublin work all of the time?
How can you use a machine incorrectly?
While there are many issues with this scheme, feeding them into a functioning machine couldn't be easier.
Tell us how we can use a machine incorrectly so we can test your theory.
