Separate discussion for the EU election results.
Criminalising the purchaser hasn’t worked since it was introduced . It has been there since time immemorial so society may as well accept it at this point . Trying to confine it to the dark corners where the righteous can’t see it is hardly enlightened either.
Some pretty unfair comments towards Mullooly here in my view. You'd swear it was that James Conway header that ran in the Sligo local election people were talking about.
Questioning the amount of carbon emissions apportioned to agriculture doesn't equate to climate change denial. Very very few of Mullooly's peers deny climate change outright. Questioning the effectiveness of certain recent policies yes but that's not outright denial.
Blurring the lines between pretty centrist independents and actual far right independents or others won't do anyone any good in the long run.
UKIP winning in the UK in 2014 with 24 seats out of 73. That was at a time when they had no seats in parliament. Fast forward a year to their May 2025 general election and UKIP managed a grand total of 1 seat out of 650 in Westminster.
That's more reflective of the terrible UK voting system. In 2015, UKIP got 12.6% of the votes cast, and got one seat. The Tories got 36.8% (less than 3 times as many votes), and got 330 seats. The UK's FPTP voting system for parliament is not representative. Their European elections (when they had them) were representative because it was a requirement decided at EU level
Change is long over due. Too many progressive organisations have been beholden to Ruhama however I believe there's a bit of kick back in Labour against their position though it may not go anywhere as long as Bacik is leader.
If Moscow Bosco gets in I will throw up…
In full agreement with your criticism of FPTP in the UK. Neverthelesss it is the system in place for their GEs and in 650 constituencies in 2015 UKIP only managed to finish in first place in one. Why? Because their vote had gone down a whopping 14% from the EU election 12 months prior.
Drawing conclusions from this EU election re FF/FG/SF is unwise. The GE will be an entirely different event.
It's the commercialisation of sex. Would you feel ok if you heard of kids been told they've a future in the sex trade by career guidance if all else fails?
"hey kids, sex worker is listed on the skills shortage list for Oz, no need to ever study!" (fun fact, sex worker is indeed on the skills shortage list for Oz, or at least it was when I searching for my profession code when filling in my visa.)
Edit to add, why don't we bring crack cocaine out of the shadows too etc…
Oh yeah .Two people having a brief non committed interaction is causing the same damage to society as cocaine. Right on sister
Not when it involves human trafficking.
Utterly bizarre comparison.
Parking your infantile name calling, the final South seat was decided yesterday when the second shinner was eliminated and gave Funchion the big boost. Wallace had a chance if it was him v SF he was never going to win against CNM given the make up of the remaining candidates and likely surplus for Kelleher.
That is good news, fair dues to him and all who voted his way. Just hoping now that Wallace gets his marching papers, so fingers crossed.
Hardly name calling. More an accurate description.
You've just illustrated you don't understand the term 'name calling' or 'accurate'.
Good news if you champion climate change deniers or casual racists but whatever floats your boat.
Wallace was done yesterday, the process is just playing out today.
Putins puppet?? Better??🤣🤣🤣
No, your comprehension is still lacking. I
Actually Moscow Bosco Wallace as a Russian asset would be very much in the climate denial camp. Without oil money Russia had nothing.
At least Flanagan held up the Palestinian flag, he hasn't fully lost his principal at least.
Human trafficking is ( quite rightly )a crime that is already adequately legislated for.
Mulooly only 3,800 ahead of Gildernew, and you’d have to assume that far more of Ming’s second preferences are heading towards SF. I’d put her as a marginal favourite now with Mulooly to lose out.
The individual returning officer has a statutory duty to stand over the result. It's a bit tricky to stand over the counting that went on while they're snoring their brains out in bed.
But more importantly, I'd ask again - why? What benefit would arise from reducing the six day count to a three or four day count by running 24/7?
Just picked the HP one to have a look in more detail.
The maximum scan size would just about accommodate the current MNW ballot paper. Five more candidates on the ballot and it would be too big for the scanner.
But Minger is a maverick that crosses many bogs. I'd be thinking his support base is all over the place. But yes, who knows.
Lynn Boylans did not too bad from Aontu inDublin. Yes NB got more butI think none of the rest did exceptionally well except those two.
Real surprise was Gildernew not doing any better than Cowen, Walsh and Carberry who all got 4k each from Peadar, Chambers got 2k. Gildernegot 4.5k.
Sorry just looks at the Dublin exclusion of the Aontu candidate and it was pretty similar but just a lot less votes.
personally I’d call him a Cnut. But that’s just me.
looking like Wallace is finished ! Absolutely delighted
Mings surplus came via Tobin, they won't necessarily go more favourably to Gildernew. At this stage Mulooly looks too far ahead.
Lisa Chambers votes likely to mostly go to Maria Walsh and Barry Cowen possibly in that order. I can't see anywhere near enough to go to Gildernew to even get close as Nina Carberry should get a few too.
Jaysus….enough of the scannerphelia please….
you’d have to assume that far more of Ming’s second preferences are heading towards SF.
would you? I would see Ming & Mulooly as cut from a similar cloth…
Me or Wallace??🤔
