I think it has to be a bit of both, but results drive the narrative.
A hotel with no facilities for a rugby team
In fairness, I think they stayed at Fota which caters to a lot of sports teams for pre-season training camps.
Still has no facilities to train etc
As reported he ended up going down to his old club, it was an ego trip.
Not sure why people don't want to admit that
yeah they stayed at fota island which has 2 rugby pitches. im pretty sure o gara had his wedding reception there too
I think this was the best comment, nobody picked up on it at the time but it was cutting :-)
“For us, we’re the only Irish team left in the competition and you’d love if all of Ireland got behind you.
Theres plenty of space to train in fota or plenty of local clubs to train in. Madness that staying outside dublins seen as an ego trip 😂
So why did he go down to his old club to train if he had access to train in Fota?
Any "deranged ranting" in the last 2 or 3 years or is this a reference to what he was suspended for 4 years ago?
As I said if he wanted to reduce travel then why charter a flight into Cork which is 3-4 hours outside of Dublin is not reducing travel.
Charter the flight direct to Dublin and then rest up all week.
It was an ego trip, good for him to be in a position to do it
Why not. Whys it such an issue? Where are leinster staying in Pretoria does the hotel have rugby facilities? Whats the proximity to the stadium? Does anyone know or care?
Did irelands hotel in marseilles have rugby facilities?
Are ireland potentially on an ego trip we dont even know about
To give an example, that would be like Leinster flying into Toulouse to play a game in La Rochelle to reduce travel 😂
Even in France you could get a proper train
And if leinster had regis sonnes involved for example maby that makes sense . I doubt it would make national news
Cork is not closer to dublin than la rochelle? News to me
Anyway this is a good example of a small.thing being blown out of proportion. Sport tends to do that
No it wouldn't make any sense
Toulouse staying in Carton made the news as well if I remember correctly.
ROG is great and the media love him, but it was an ego trip and if it was any other coach that did it the media would have went after him once they lost
The only time I seen a club not fly into a city is Munster because of altitude and they stayed at sea level and then flew in/out to try get away from the issues.
Pro clubs like Toulouse etc stay in Dublin if they are playing in Dublin. Otherwise just stay in France and fly over for the game. It would be quicker on a flight to Dublin from La Rochelle than a bus from Cork
ROG did it, it didn't work out for him.
ROG doing it and it not working out doesn't make it an ego trip any more than if he had done it and it worked out would've made it a masterclass in mind games, say...
ROG blew it up by posting pictures all over the web, he could have landed in Cork and nothing much would have been said about it
NZ for instance have flew into Ireland, stayed in Castleknock hotel, gone out to rugby clubs around the area to do training sessions etc and not a whisper on news because they don't broadcast it all over social media. The clubs so that after they have long left
I find it incredible that Erasmus has any defenders outside SA. He is an absolute cancer on the game and I'm pretty sure he has some sort of personality disorder.
But since you asked about the last 2 or 3 years.
The Lions tour is less than 3 years ago. Do you need me to remind you what happened then?
He was suspended again 18 months ago after we beat them; https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/nov/17/rassie-erasmus-suspended-world-rugby-social-media-south-africa-rugby-union
And then this was last year;
https://www.iol.co.za/sport/rugby/springboks/listen-i-love-you-but-you-cant-talk-sht-rassie-erasmus-hammers-nick-mallet-in-incredible-twitter-rant-cde3a557-2362-411d-bd70-19cf77298481
Can you imagine Andy Farrell or Fabien Galthie posting videos at 5am to have a rant at some TV pundit?
Edit: and I totally forgot about the Twitter account;
https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/international/rassie-erasmus-denies-he-is-behind-jaco-johan-twitter-account-1.4631857
Rassie should of been banned for good from rugby after the Lions tour
After he returned and started it again on Twitter then he should have been banned for good
The sooner he is gone the better, was interesting to see Zebo come out and say he hates the Irish.
Where exactly did ROG post all these pictures on social media???
Im sorry iv brought it up it seems to have upset you
Im not really defending him what he did around the lions tour was wrong and he was rightfully suspended. We just shouldn't be throwing stones given our countrys captain was suspended for abusing a referee in a game he wasnt even playing in not so long ago
It doesn't upset me at all, I am just pointing out it was an ego trip, you seem more upset because I said that
Im upset by saying its a thing of nothing? Not sure that makes sense
We just shouldn't be throwing stones given our countrys captain was suspended for abusing a referee in a game he wasnt even playing in not so long ago
jesus, you're reaching now.
Sexton reacted badly in the heat of the moment, like pretty much every other player and coach does on occasion. He admitted the offence, got suspended and that was the end of it, and he has always accepted he was in the wrong. None of those apply to Erasmus.
You absolutely are defending him.
No i think he was wrong i just said that. Sexton wasnt a player or coach that day
It was an ego trip, why would that upset me?
As I said I like ROG, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be criticised when he made a bad call, if he wanted to reduce travel then he flies into Dublin
Sexton apologised and even when they had no evidence to confirm what he said, he admitted it and took his punishment
Rassie hid behind fake accounts and all sort of crazy sh*t. Not really sure you can compare the tow
I think ref abuse is wrong and both where rightfully suspended
Did anyone say abuse of ref is right?
But you can't compare the two situations when one person is remorseful, admits to the judgement error, give a statement which incriminates themselves and accepts the punishment
The other, rejects they are in wrong, fights against it, tries everything to fight against the ruling and once they are no longer banned continues to go after refs
Ok then were great and sa are bitter and vindictive no bias here
