New thread for a new year!
Big year coming up, hopefully we may even see an Irish athlete on an Olympic podium.
Same!
Great assessment. GB will be in the mix in the Olympics for sure. There’s also Jamaica and Canada usually has a decent squad. Bronze medal is a possibility though.
and I’ll be there to see it.

Armand Duplantis going for Pole Vault world record 6.25!
Olympic 1500m is going to be some showdown.
Yeah. An odd one. His time wasn’t awful. 3.34. He just never got into the race at all.
Ingebrigsten is just another level
Expected an absolute procession and a last lap burn up. Didn't happen. No harm, no foul
Not sure what Coscoran's tactics were for that race..
DId Greg also say that Jakob won last two Worlds.
If Gourlay wins this, Jakob will pack it in
Hide behind Ingebritsen, get the tow, great tactic!
Poor Greg kept calling the second Dutch runner, Klaver. He's really fallen off since the mixed relay
17 in the 1500m , will be mayhem
Gidey finished in 12th. Others in 20, 21, 22, 24.
Felt sorry for the Swede who go caught at the end. Just over half a second between the medalists.
Efrem Gidey too. Strong representation 💪
Brian Fay did alright in fairness. Such a tactical race. Thought the Brit had it if I'm being honest but he absolutely faded

Any Irish in this 10000?
Don't know too much about Gidey but didn't expect him to be in the mix here. Imagine if we snuck a medal here 👀
there weren’t any heats and I guess we have good depth who made the qualifying time this year.
Sorry if answered already, but how have Ireland 5 in this
Great effort yet again. You could pick holes in a couple of the runs alright but no need, especially as it didn't matter in terms of the outcome, the Dutch were always going to win once they sneaked through their semi into the final. Bol was only jogging in relative terms on that last leg.
Mawdsley again was the relay star, a lot of pressure on her given how bunched everyone was going into the last 400, she held off the field brilliantly.
An olympic bronze medal will be tough, but not impossible for this team. They'll have to beat everyone from tonight again, as well as the Brits. They will need to qualify for the final without Adeleke and will probably need another national record in the final to do it, but they've definitely got a sniff of a chance.
Didn't mean to come across as negative...she did well considering her illness etc but it was the reason they didn't win gold if you are being honesr
Amazing athletes and superb role models. Exactly what we need when we're trying to promote sport amongst our young people. They're all pushing eachother on and others are trying harder to try to make this team. Obviously it's going to be much harder in the Olympics but having our best ever European championships has been so uplifting. And they all seem so sound!
The negative vibe
A night to celebrate only.....
Ireland win a silver medal and the first thing you do is point out who was the weakest.
Edit. Sorry, second thing.
No need for what?
great stuff from smashing bunch. Also great to be cheering on an Irish team in a final of a big sporting event, doesn’t happen enough!!
The Slovakian runner absolutely stunned the French, they seemed locked in for second and third.
hopefully they make a packet off this. Marketable doesn’t cover it.
