Separate discussion for the EU election results.
Count 12, Wallace moving up as expected. For now.
Mick Mack close to a lock too. GOS very much the outsider of the others…
All you've done there is to further illustrate my first response.
Christ there's some amount of guff flying around this thread, brave souls screeching hysterically hiding behind their anonymity.
Yawn…..
It's looking good for him. If you consider GOS out of it, then Mac only needs to finish above one of the other 3.
10k ahead of Funchion, but with SF's 25k Gavan votes still to be transferred
5k ahead of the other two, which isn't a whole lot.
Transfers are very unpredictable when it comes to independents.
The elimination of Gavan and then Mullins are probably the decisive ones, they will go along way to see if Funchion and Ni Mhuruchu go ahead of Wallace.
Meanwhile you haven't passed a single comment on how they've acted as apologists for genocidal regimes...
Totally agree with you, utterly tiresome. Wasn't expecting support from you 🙂
A few more counts to go yet. Not sure if we'll get a result tonight or not.
They could have just got the one. I tore off both for each person, what they did was their choice..
I just looked at Umars results . Only 4700 votes in Dublin. I'm surprised given the amount of Muslims in Dublin that he didn't do better
Numers tie in with turnout and rough population estimate
Just under 80% of the residents of Dublin city are Catholic, less than the national figure of 87%. Muslims comprise the main minority religious group in the city. Although no precise figures are available, Muslim sources currently believe the number of Muslims living in the city to be around 12,000 persons.
Much like Christians, they are not some monolithic voting bloc...
Where are you getting 87% catholic from? The census in 2022 said 69% I think?
If people don't know how to vote, then let's educate people on how to vote. Let's not put our democracy at risk by using technology that we don't really understand, at a time when cyber attacks by nation state actors have never been a more serious risk.
The Electoral Commission made some moves towards this, with TV and online ads to encourage people to vote. There was also some NGO sharing 'how to' videos on social media. We could do much more of this, educate people, do mock elections in TY and in college, even provide options as and when people go to vote to provide help.
Quick google search, i couldn't care less about Catholic %, was a quick C&P
Well I'm glad you stopped short of saying the spelling was hate-speech or too far right.
Never said global warming wasn't real, it has been cooling and warming since the beginning of time. But to say that 1. The change is not normal 2. Humans cause it or 3. Humans are the solution to Climate change has no scientific basis to it whatsoever, thus to stay on topic, the entire green party agenda is pointless, damaging even and the electorate have voted accordingly.
Al Qadri is not liked in Clonskesgh. Putting it mildly.
Another contribution to the 'Twitter isn't real life' discussion;
1,745,230 Irish people voted and cast valid votes in the EU election this time around
Anonymously
Do you have a problem with the will of the people and how our anonymous elections operate?
Tbf, the Russian bots count for about 420k of those followers…
There is a certain level of irony in you championing the consensus of the voting public while simultaneously pissing all over the consensus of the scientific community when it comes to climate change.
And space travel.
And satellites.
Seems like you only think a consensus is a good thing when it already agrees with your own POV. Funny that.
Oh to be a fly on the wall behind green doors now. They'll have to wait a few more years to tax us back to the Flintstone era.
Their vote has held up better than expected all things considering. I also wouldn't discount the current coalition being returned if they can make up the numbers, maybe with a few independents as well this time.
You think 23 LE seats out of 946 seats filled is to be considered "has held up better" ?
I'd call that catastophic.
EDIT - And no EURO Seats
The defence against cyber attacks is to have stand alone machines, not connected to the internet for the duration of election. Well screened beforehand. There is risk with every system. Human error in manual counting. There is definitely more we can do and I don’t think we should switch systems overnight but a trial of some assistive technology would be good. Day 6 now of counting in 2 constituencies and 1 MEP officially elected is a bit much in 2024.
For a trial, they could do a count of ballots in one constituency using a machine. Keep this count under wraps and then count manually and see what the difference was. You’d need legislation to govern something like this, of course. But it is the only way that they would ever get a sample size big enough to do a realistic test of such a system. I won’t hold my breath though, the media will sink any whisper of e-voting so protect their clicks.
The Greens lost all 4 seats on South Dublin County Council. I'm hoping for wipeout in the GE.
Look at Dublin and DLR before building your hopes up.
Incredible how little attention RTE have given this Green implosion. Likely due to them ramming environmental nonsense down our throats for years. George Lee needs to dust all that carbon residue off his CV.
I have expected a Green wipeout in the next general election for some time so their vote surprised me. They came close to holding two European seats and 23 LE seats is better than their 2014 and 2009 performance.
Was anyone expecting anything more?
