Separate discussion for the EU election results.
Thats the thing about Useful Idiots - when they no longer serve a purpose they can simply be forgotten.
good!
Where do pro govt transfers go from Green in Dublin? I'm thinking more to FG than FF. Both Andrews and Doherty could make quota, and Doherty could go into first place.
Greens are 'FG on bikes' the old(ish) adage has it…
Great stuff ." Walk of shame " !
Not to mention that in the country she seems to admire so much groupspeak is the only tolerated speak…else you're off for a spell in the Big House.
TThere Will nit be a serious pile of them. Andrews needs 6k, Doherty 7k. Lynn Boylan will probably swallow 6-7k as well. Because of the length of the ballot, I think many people stopped after 10ish ballot indicators or less even, I think this is tgevreason for tge high number of non transferable papers after counts.
I expect about 20% of cuffe vote to be NT. Leaving 30-35k papers transferable. I am guessing 1Ok+ to AOR, 5-10 to LB, 5k each to RD and BA and about 2-4 k to NB
Flounce of the year.
67% of Cuffes votes were his from count 1 so it's predominantly GP second preferences in play.
What are we on count 19, so an intense fight between Niall Boylan and Aodhán Ó Riordain
It won't be that intense, Ó'Ríordáin will win comfortably.
That is a shame, was hoping smug pompous Aodhan would miss out
Smug pompous Niall Boylan will miss out instead.
I’m not so sure I like the functioning of a proportional representation system of voting. In essence they make dead all the second preference votes of the top runners. In that case it favours the fringe element who can tally together and give possibly an overwhelming vote to extremist elements who are bandied together to overthrow the hard working law abiding citizens who top the poll. When you have ten times the amounts of peoples preferences possibly to add to your cause, the odds of getting in increase significantly.
Just like Bukowski wrote in the 60s about USA presidential election; people get the same choice every four years warm sh1t or cold sh1t.
In essence they make dead all the second preference votes of the top runners.
Well thats because those people got their first choice…..
How many bye elections are we looking at now?
I didn't expect NB would benefit nearly as much from Daly's transfers as AOR.
Three. But realistically, none; cause there'll be a general within the max 6 months.
Doherty's Seanad seat will be filled ASAP as its a Taoiseach seat, I suspect it'll be FFs turn and it'll be used to launch or relaunch someone for the GE.
Except they don't because that hasn't happened if you actually look at the results.
You quite obviously completely misunderstand how the system works tbh.
The second preferences of everyone who voted 1 for everyone who gets elected never move, because that is the entire point of the system
You are failing at basic maths to come to the conclusion you have.
Probably too early for me make an off-the-cuff remark that his demise was linked to those RVM machines 😂.
In Lynn Boylans case it is becuse she got 13,000 from Clare Dalys vote. She could conceivably top the poll now. It’s an unfair way of ganging up on top runners.
Dublin counting far far faster than the other count centres.
Well no she only got 11338 from Daly and shes also been 3rd in every count bar 1 of 18 where she only fell to 4th so she has never been out of contention for getting a seat.
Once again you quite obviously have a massive misunderstanding of how the system works.
The will of the voters is inherently not unfair.
Theres nothing unfair about it. Thats the preference of the people. Its one of the fairest systems in the world. Its representative of the wishes of the voters.

Bitter Daly
Cuffe will not thank Regina who openly criticised the Greens at will during the campaign.
