New thread for a new year!
Big year coming up, hopefully we may even see an Irish athlete on an Olympic podium.
I think it's more a case that Mawdsley will have to sacrifice her individual chances in Paris to help the team. Realistically she's not going to make the individual Olympic final anyway, but with Adeleke dropping in and out she will have a huge role to play in two other decent medal chances in the relays. We're going to need her to run both relay heats for us to have a chance. That way we can just bring Rhasidat in for the two finals without damaging her individual medal prospects.
Is the evening session viewable tonight anywhere?
RTE2 has the football on
Also looking for any channel that has it on this evening
It's on the RTE player
https://www.rte.ie/player/onnow/82100776270
Thanks very much. Disgraceful RTE don't have even have half decent coverage
Why couldn't RTE put the athletics on the RTE News channel? They've put sporting events on there numerous times in the past. Their coverage has been dreadful throughout, but this takes the ₱1$$.
money I’d say. Rte need to make savings. The public aren’t happy with their expenditure. This, I’d say, is what you call one of the downstream impacts
Also, with the election counts coming in, there are probably more people interested in following that live than following athletics
Anyone know why the British 10,000 m runner Megan Keith has her name in massive letters on her vest? Totally different font from every other athlete.
Possibly as she's European U23 champion, albeit at 5000m?
There's about 10 different races going on here in the 10000m
Fantastic triple jump competition, 2 over 18 metres! Spaniard/Cuban with 3rd longest jump in history to take the lead in the 5th round
Tamberi ! 😀
What a showman!
He is like the James Brown of high jumping
That was a crazy race, too many athletes and difficult to follow where everyone was positioned in the race.
Clearly it was an issue for the athletes too as one of the Irish competitors ran over the finish line after 9600m, sat down on the track for a few seconds, looked at her watch, realised she wasn't finished, then had to get up again and run another lap around the track. Amateur stuff.
Huge viewing figure of 568,000 for Adeleke's race last night! So brilliant to see

Why would it cost any more to stick it on News Now when they're covering it online already?
What a championships for Nadia Batocletti, 5k/10k double on home soil with a PB in the latter. Brilliant bronze medal for Megan Keith at 21 years of age, there'll be more medals coming her way in the next few years.
What a brilliant evenings entertainment !!
Poor girl is in bits
EDIT: They seem to have removed the interview
Great evenings entertainment.
I rechecked it & Greg said the winner could come from lanes 3 to 8. Possibly not 9. So he discounted the poor guy before he even started. I love his predictions as they’re usually wrong.
Tamberi broke his shoe while clearing 2.34m, then came back and cleared 2.37m! Legend. The Italians are having a spectacularly successful champs.
Cuban born Triple Jumpers 1st and 2nd in that event, both over 18m.
Looking at the timetable for tomorrow, will we see anything after the women's 4x4? 🤔😃
It's to be expected, but the Italians had a massive home-court advantage in the stadium this week. The morning sessions have been so quiet that they actually roped in a couple of busloads of schoolkids as a an organized Italian cheering squad today. We were sitting in front the of Tamberi show this evening, which was great craic, but you kind of felt for the decathlon guys and the javelin women (and the non-Italian high jumpers). Triple jump only got a few look-ins. Tamberi's the kind of guy who is great for the sport, but if you're going to shut down everything else so he can have his show-time, then at least run the other events at a different time and give the other athletes the respect they deserve.
I hope so! I want to see how Coscoran does in the 1500m.
The Dutch will be very tough to beat tonight assuming they bring in Bol and Klaver. Their third best 400m runner - Peeters is also good, probably on par with Sophie Becker.
Didn't break his shoe - he pretended to have hurt his foot, sat down and while the camera cut away to the shocked faces in the crowd he produced a pile of springs out of his shoe. :-)
Anyone know what time the 1500m and 4 x 400m finals are on today?
See below
Huge night.
Who else is in the Womens 4x4,can't find a list anywhere?
Very excited about the relay later. I think we'll be in the medals, but the colour remains to be seen. I think a lot depends on how much Mawdsley and Adeleke have left in their legs. Will also probably need one of the Dutch to have a bad leg so Bol has too much work to do. Really looking forward to it!
