Just gone quiet maybe.
By now Id say most people who use logic* and understand data have figured out what Re-Turn is.
*Logic with at least some basis in reality.
you're mixing up two entities there.
"retailers" meaning people higher up in offices who haven't worked on the front lines of supermarkets in years if ever and "retailers" meaning the underpaid, overworked staff who already often have barely enough time to get everything done in the day.
I just discovered you can actually put the can or bottle in any orientation and it will scan. I had been placing the cans and bottles with the barcode facing up to allow the infra red scanner to capture the bar code. I found yesterday that throwing them in at any orientation bar code lieing down on belt, scans also. How does it scan the barcode if its lieing down and hidden by the conveyor belt, (Just curious)😵 certainly speeds up the process anyhoo!
Some models have scanners "in" the belt, the belt being two belts rather than one solid belt.
It depends on the machines, I've had cans rejected, then re-orientated them with barcode down, and it was read ok. It shouldn't matter, but if you get a can rejected, try it with your old tactic.
I was in SuperValu in Newcastle, the shop is practically brand new, large supermarket built within the last year. Lots of self-service checkouts. All have signs above “Please do not use ReTurn vouchers at self service. Please present vouchers to the till”
No explanation given, and I didn’t get a chance to ask the staff.
Maybe they believe the vouchers can be re-used?
I bet you were delighted about that.
Shit load of cans to recycle. The machine is out of order again across in the local Spar.
What a fucking mess.
This is a you problem not a Re-Turn problem
Incidentally had 2 cans rejected a few days ago that were only bought in the past week and no logo on them so no chance of getting the money back on them
Keep receipts. Then argue with shop. Some shop managers are reasonable.
Sorry receipts are not green
It's a problem with bloody machines and this whole farce of a system.
Not me.
I was recycling my cans perfectly fine before.
I suspect fritzelly was being ironical.
Re-Turn say its not their problem that's for sure.
This is a joke.
If the machine broken then they should be forced to take manual returns without quibble.
This BS needs enforcement.
Well, if it's a joke it flew right over my head in a glorious whooooosh moment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You could try the barcode checker.
If they aren't on it the shop shouldn't have charged the deposit.
They shouldn't be selling stock without the logo anyway so they are in the wrong.

What is the poster supposed to to in this instance?
Check the barcode then try them in an RVM.
If that doesn't work go back to the shop and complain.
And I know they shouldn't have to go to that trouble but the shop is to blame
What if the shop ignore him or tell him that he didn't pay a deposit on them?
What's the next step?
It's getting hypothetical now but just for the sake of conversation let's say they did.
The poster would be faced with a situation where if they didn't have a receipt they had no proof of purchase or deposit.
On the other hand the shopkeeper has to decide, "am I calling a customer a liar over 30c, how likely is it that they are trying to swindle me out of said 30c ?".
If I was the shopkeeper I'd hand over the 30c and apologise for the mistake.
What would you do ?
To be honest, something like that (did I pay the deposit or not, did I keep the receipt, could I be arsed going to the shop in the first instance to return the cans, could I be arsed getting into apotential conflict with a shopworker/owner) wouldn't appeal to me at all and I'd have had the two cans fired into the regular recycle bin I had at the house.
Probably many would agree with you.
Shops get away with it, consumer loses out.
Happens all the time in small ways that go unchallenged.
Special offer or reduced price stickerd items checked out at the full barcode price, that sort of thing.
Am sure it does, this scheme is just another way that this type of thing can go on, an avenue that didn't exist 6 months ago.
I suppose the big issues start happening when the numbers (either number of items sold or items collected) get impacted by the actions of retailers or consumers - a couple of items here or there, probably no issues, but larger numbers start to impact on collection figures.
I'm sure this was discussed when Re turn became a company.
Most can't be bloody arsed to do that.
Win win for Re turn.
Again I agree with you if there was no DRS there would be no DRS related issues.
The only measure of success for Re-turn is reaching the collection targets.
That needs the co-operation of retailers as well as consumers.
I'm sure it was too.
Consumers have more power than many realise.
The only win for Re-turn is hitting their targets
Its the primary KPI however it shouldn't be the only one.
At this point it's difficult to fathom how they plan on getting to a ninety percent collection rate with their current attitude to basic problems that should have been identified and resolved months ago however.
I do wonder though what, if any, plan is in place if they don't reach their targets?
Is it as simple as increase the deposit?
Re-turn would like us to report bargains like these. Spotted just now, a full rack of non DRS stock at a reputable nationwide supermarket.
