Separate discussion for the EU election results.
All we are waiting for now is a series of counts in the Europeans. 😀
As A is the candidate with the surplus, how could A receive any of the surplus?
"right wing" and "coherently", somehow i doubt that
It's gas how the edgelords on here think the rise of the right will make their lives better by likely breaking up the EU and empowering Russia. Also not believing in climate change or strong environmental policies to protect biodiversity. As long as it gets one over on the wokes though.
Dublin moving through the elimination counts. It looks like there will be around 10 counts before any candidate passes the quota. Each count will probably only be eliminating a single candidate due to the small differences in their totals.
He is useless, he pops up every election and then disappears.
You won't see or hear again from him for another 5 years.
Mick and Claire are too vocal while Ming knows to just keep the head down and dp nothing, people will vote him back in
He's a sort of left wing populist socialist, not in anyway nationalist, effectively an open borders advocate
He's not PBP however, wouldn't be in favour of nationalising farms etc
He's an eighteen carrot gimp
Most arent right wing. They just want tighter restrictions on immigration which surely benefits the ordinary joe soap?
It won't break up the EU but the move towards a more people centric politics, a return to the idea that it or a State has a duty of care to its people.
Many decades since the left looked at things like that.
All ground breaking changes.
What people call far right now is often a return to 1980s Christian democracy or centre left economics.
The left has become such a creature of the upper classes that it is quickly dying across Europe as a force.
Who knew that most people don't appreciate finger wagging as a message
Progressive politics is the new religion of the urban middle and upper middle class and just like the pious of yesteryear, what good is it if there are no less righteous ones to sermonise to?
Christian piety and woke piety are the same thing, authoritarian morality preacher's who insist on forcing their views on others
Who's this "most" you are referring to? Also, what do you consider right wing?
Insulting address of the opposition ✓
Attack on their intelligence ✓
Questioning their motives aren't genuine ✓
Ding Ding Ding. Full marks.
I remember him from when he first came to wider attention in the late 90's, when he had that shaved head/ weird ringlet things at the side combo and he used to make the occasional appearance on Dont Feed The Gondolas. My impression of him then was an eccentric but harmless "character". Hes gone pretty well down in my estimation over the years.
People who were the Jesuits of yesterday are the progressives of today.
So that's the vast majority of voters
I was referring to the people on here celebrating morons like Gavin Pepper being anywhere near government. Morons.
Count 3 Dublin, Heasman eliminated
Eamon Murphys votes scatted but a fair whack to Aontu (understandable) and to Brendan Ogle (why?). Zero impact on elimination order.
This wait for results is a pain. I wish the media would just stick up ‘realistically, it’ll be about 10 tonight before we have anything else firm so we’re taking this off the top of the page’
People have every right to vote how they want and post what they want withing the rules.
What you don't have the right to do is call people you disagree with morons.
A common trait amount lefties is insulting anyone who doesn't align with their views, doesn't line up with their pretence of being nice and kind people.
He absolutely does have the right to call them morons... If somebody thinks Gavin Pepper would be a good local representative then they probably are morons tbh. Let's see how he handles local issues now...
murphy
58 people who voted 1 for Conor Murphy had Barry Andrews as their No. 2 choice if that second count is to be believed. Not much coherency there…
So 9 more counts in Dublin until we get to Steenson / Doolin / Considine territory, at which point the eliminated candidates have sufficient votes to distribute among a small enough number of remaining candidates to potentially impact order / positions in any meaningful way. Feels like today will be only about getting to that stage. But that in itself is at least progress vs the other two constituencies.
I don't mean to turn this into an immigration thread but why do you think these tighter restrictions will have an effect?
Longer holidays, lower taxes and better weather would benefit the ordinary Joe Soap, should we run to vote for anyone who promises these?
I think the centre and left need to take back the narrative on immigration. We need smarter efforts not simplistic 'hard-border' options which push people towards traffickers and living undocumented, as well as impacted EU unity.
I assume we can apply the same label to everyone who voted for Regina Doherty and AOR as well?
By this logic we wouldn't be allowed question the intelligence or motives of Brexit voters.
It's political correctness gone mad!
No he doesn't have the right to call posters morons because he has a different opinion.
Heasman out. Votes scatter to other far right mostly. No change in elimination order (the only possibility I see of that is O Conarain overtaking Al-Qadri but its not that likely)
Stephen O'Rourke eliminated.
Pat McGrath seems to have lost a ton of weight, result for him!
Due to the large number of candidates to be eliminated, it could be the 15th count before anybody reaches the quota.
One trend that's emerging is that across the 3 counts so far, Ciarán Cuffe is on average the least transfer friendly.
If that trend continues, I'd expect him to be eliminated in 6th or even 7th position (overtaken by Clare Daly)
Lynn Boylan is securing enough transfers to maintain the gap to the chasers, so I think she's ok, especially with Doolan's elimination to come.
And I still think O'Ríordáin will take 4th even though Niall Boylan has just slipped past him on Count 4
