Why "lol"? 🤔
Anyway, carry on the good work a chara, you are doing a fantastic job
I suggested working services, lower hospital waiting lists and school buses where needed over arbitrary budget give aways.
You cited 'tough decisions'. You've failed to support that.
I don't care how others fair, I have my own opinions. Being fixated on sinn fein won't make FG better.
Again, all you are doing here is avoiding issues raised to shite on about Sinn Fein.
No interest in personal point scoring. I bid you good day.
Best of luck on your travels, by the way you started waffling about Sinn Fein on this thread, not me. When it back fired this is the waffle we have had since
And they certainly will.
What it causing everyone else's airfares to go up going to accomplish exactly?
Interesting that the electorate seem to regard FF-FG as some sort of large friendly voting bloc - apparently, there are numerous stories of voters going 1. FF and 2. FG and vice versa.
This could mean they might be very difficult to dislodge from government at the next GE, even if the likes of SF can increase their vote.
I found it funny to suggest that because it hasn't happened FG support for UVL is somehow up for debate. They've supported her all through it many of the FG MEPs have said they will vote for her. They obviously are supprotive of her pro-israeli position .
This could mean they might be very difficult to dislodge from government at the next GE,
The other thing there is FF &FG have pretty much the entire rest of the Dail to draw on as potential backers outside of SF and the hard left. At this stage pretty much the only thing that would prevent them forming another government is FF actually preferring a deal with SF, even under less favourable terms. And that's hard to imagine if Martin is still in charge….
I notice too that Martin and Harris are scoring well in personal approval polls. You would have to think they are in the driving seat for formation of the next government, unless something unforeseen was to emerge in politics in the next six months or so.
I don't know, FF would be trying to sell themselves as different to FG and might think they can be the lead party in a coalition with others like SF. Many of the indies are closet FF for sure.
Martin also said "No grand coalition".
error
If people are liking Harris with his record, I don't think anything could possibly come out.
Not sure why anyone thinks that is funny or "lol"
You do realise you seem to be laughing about a war. People are dying yet all you post is "lol"
Strange, certainly I have no interest in discussing further with you, banh away with the "lol"'s
I don't know why it's so difficult for you to understand but I'll try again.
I am laughing at your suggestion that FGs support for Ursula isn't a definite.
As I said, bang away
Our 14 candidates won't have much of a say in her re-election or not!
And rumours that she is sourcing support from far right groups to get her elected.
Edit: - https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/29/greens-will-not-back-ursula-von-der-leyen-if-she-makes-deal-with-far-right
@Clo-Clo Edit the above with a link, I didn't make it up!
"rumours" which in others word is "let make stuff up" 😂
Rumours from people who haven't a clue how the president is put into office I suspect.
I agree.
Have been watching the results, and find it very satisfying.
Great to to some many parties doing so well.
@Clo-Clo @Podge_irl Edit my previous post with a link, her looking for support from the right was not made up by me!?
https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-european-election-results-2024-ursula-von-der-leyen-second-term-political-deal-european-commission-conservatives/
If in the days and weeks ahead she wins the nomination for a second term from EU leaders, von der Leyen will then need the support of 361 MEPs in the newly elected Parliament. That will involve striking alliances with other parties on the center, left or even — potentially — further to the right.
EPP Group is suspect to be doing well 184 to 189 seats. My point still stands our 14 MEP's (With 3 or 4 FG) is not going to make a difference to her election. Unless it a narrow margin like the last time, [383 votes (374 votes needed)]
That doesn't remotely back up your statement.
Hope this is not dragging the thread off topic?
However, Ms von der Leyen may still need support from some right-wing nationalists, such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy to secure a parliamentary majority, giving Ms Meloni and her European Conservative and Reformists (ECR) allies more leverage - which could upset other potential allies.
~~ Centre-right EPP to get 189 seats in EU Parliament, projection says
That is why I said a romour and not factual statement.
Edit: - Just adding this link to have it include here for future reference. Don't want to make another post on it.
As with RTE reporting on it, so did the Irish Times.

It's not a rumour, it's a hypothetical.
As someone else pointed out, it doesn't back up your claim
What's the argument here?
That the EPP might need some support from Meloni? This isn't really news at this stage.
She was described as the 'Kingmaker' last week in The Economist.
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/social-affairs/2024/06/10/european-commission-says-irish-population-rose-by-record-35-per-cent-last-year/
Ireland's population grew by 181,000, or 3.5%, last year. The 5th highest growth rate of any country on the planet.
We built 32,695 housing units last year, far too few to house these people - nevermind make any dent in the housing crisis.
Is it any wonder the housing crisis isn't getting better, or the health service is swamped? The government is failing massively in its duty to control the borders, at a severe cost to the quality of life for Irish people.
Jesus… thats some number.
This is the part to read from the article which strangely was not mentioned
A CSO spokeswoman declined to comment on the AMECO figures except to say that they are based on projections for the end of 2023 rather than actual figures. She said the full extent of the population increase in the Republic will not become apparent until September, when the CSO publishes its figures on the State’s population for the 12 months to April.
It's the European Commission publishing the figures, they're not wildly speculative numbers from some randomer.
But even if they're off by a 10-20% overestimation (which is very unlikely) we'd still be talking about population growth of approx 150,000 in a year, when we built 32,695 housing units in that same year.
The maths are awful on that alone, nevermind health, schools, local services etc, or any cultural/assimilation issues.
I think the big thing to come out of this weekend election results is the power and influence of the media. FFG can count on their media friends in the national media.
The attacks against SF by the likes of Hugh O Connell, Philip Ryan and Fionnan Sheehan over the weekend were an absolute disgrace and they went round to the likes of Newstalk, RTE and Today FM to express how “dire” SF did and how great it is that FFG are doing. And they were unchallenged in how their articulated their views too. I used to despise SF but after hearing all those sound bites, I have completely turned against the two govt parties.
